Hi,

I was wondering if someone could please help me. Does anyone know how much money it costs to get a license for your own game company?

Thanks.

I'm not that 'clued up' when it comes to things like this but uhh....

Why do you need to purchase a licence to have a game company?

Like, is it not just a case of - you pay tax based on your companies financial income ?

I know effectively zero when it comes to UK law, but you would likely need to start a business so this (https://www.gov.uk/set-up-business-uk/overview) is probably a good place to start.

This question would probably be better directed at a lawyer.

My guess is that you should only worry about that once you:

1, become well established, and

2,  have quite a few titles under your belt. I'd say MAYBE three to five.

Yeah it depends on the country, here in PH for example it would be 500,1000,1500,2000 pesos depending on the scope of the business. That is payment for registering the name of your business (if it's single proprietorship), Partnerships and corporations take a bit more I guess as they're registered on the securities and exchange commission, and last time our organization asked how much does a registration for a non-profit org was, it was at around 5000, so for a profit business, it might be larger.

Hi Miffy, I'm based in the UK and I still haven't registered a LTD company (which is the likely tag you'd go for in this case). If it's just you, with no employees, I wouldn't worry about it.

One of the main reasons for registering a company in the UK is to remove liability- let's say you take a business loan out, the business would then be liable if you couldn't repay it. (That being said, most lenders would want collateral anyways).

Just to clarify, you can still have a company name, it just becomes 'yours' through usage and traceable history.

I'd recommend registering as self-employed, in which case you'll have to submit a tax return each year. If you do want to register a company, I believe it's somewhere in the region of a mere £20 to do so.

Hope this helps.

Holy stink, where have I been? Well, I started my temporary job this week. So less time to spend on game design... :(
Cartoonier cloud cover that better fits the art style, as well as (slightly) improved blending/fading... fading clouds when there are larger patterns is still somewhat abrupt for some reason.
