More mapping! I didn't get around to doing the edits I was gonna do - got sidetracked by manga orz - but I put in some solid mapping time and finished some of the WIPs from yesterday as well as a few more that I began today, so there's that.

I also did some more resource hunting. Man, looking back I do a lot of music and sound hunting and I usually find a couple of neat songs (all free to use) to add to the pile but not as much in the way of actual sound effects. I guess there's more music than sounds, really. It'd be super neat if there was a sound effect pack in the store - I mean, we've a ton of actual music packs of all different types, so a sound one wouldn't be too much to ask - though who knows how hard it'd be to make certain kinds of sounds. I'd give it a try if I had anything resembling a decent mic. :/

Hm... I'm sure I did something else today... There were some minor database tweaks, and some skill checking but nothing really noteworthy.

Oh! That's right! I went looking for scripts. I'm not sure what exactly I'm gonna aim for all up so I decided to do some browsing and see what's out there in the way of battle scripts. To tell the truth, most of them look pretty scary but some of the skill ones looked interesting - it's just a matter of narrowing down what I want for the characters when it comes to battle (which I did yesterday for Lise, and a bit for Dell, but still have to do the other three). Also, there's some neat systems out there but I'm not going too heavy with them in this game so I figure I'll give them a miss. Maybe just a menu one to allow showing all five characters on the scene... but yeah, simple!

Tomorrow I plan to do some LPing (it's been a while) so that'll probably feature heavily in the 13th report.

Well, I'm home this morning. And I gotta say Valentines Day was pretty sweet. Anyhow I'm gonna post my WIP of the land Bio I started in the morning yesterday, but I never got around to getting back home to finish it.

This is, infact, the last land bio. I'll be finishing it today. But I've been making sure to put alot of thought into it, so what might seem to be not much is alot of thinking. These land bios are basicaly just free writting. No prior notes, rarely prior concepts. I think Liro was one of the only ones that had much pre-emptive thinking. Anyhow! The sooned these writtings are done, the sooner I can start back on art based pieces. There's still mini-town bio's that I'll have to get around to, but I think those I might be able to make alot briefer. Then again, maybe not. The more detail I put in now the smoother things will go, such as filler dialogue, town scenery, town location, events in regards to towns and places. So I guess I have a good bit more writting to do.. And that's ok! But I need to set a goal. That goal being that all writting in regards to my game, as well as the Story Arc will be completed by the end of Febuary. Time to make a check list!

Yikes! I was completely off on my days and kept thinking that yesterday was Thursday and not my day to post, though I did do some work. So I'm going to post this in hopes of a little mercy and if not, oh well!

I mainly worked on graphics some more. I am trying to compile the pieces of tilesets that I want to use into something cohesive so I can start redoing my maps. I also worked on piecing together some things I need. A big festival market is central to my game, so I am using Mack's stand to create more a variety of types of stands. I also worked a bit on another custom sprite.

A bit of work done today, but not much progress made due to setbacks.

* A good chunk of the database and maps are gone due to an unknown rollback.


◆ Battle


* Battle System's currently running on the Default Battle System with major tweaks.


◆ Mana Eggs


* Mana Egg's can't be crafted yet, but their design follows a simple formula.


* Eggs have a rank that ranges from 1 to 5 that affects their base stat bonuses


* Eggs also have one or two unique characteristics that range from React/On Attack Abilities to additional skills.


* All Eggs have a single summon that cost 25% TP


* Skill Slots have yet to be defined.


◆ Weapons & Armors


* Weapons for each weapon type have been reduced to 8 per weapon type.


* Each Weapon will carry a unique characteristic like Draining MP to Enhancing Abilities


* Armors have been divided into several categories with no defined amount set (upper limit 20)


◆ Crafting


* The Crafting side of things has been lightly implemented currently.


* At the moment, Cooking and Healing Items are the only craftable items.


* Mana influenced crafting has yet to be implemented.

Finished up the side-view of the male sprite base and made a couple of variations, but here's the default base:

I was going to work on the female base, but decided to jump to faces while I still had the desire to make larger amounts of hair. It doesn't happen everyday, so I struck while the iron was hot. Anyway I have the status faces of both the main characters:

The faces are only going to be used in the status menu/possibly the battle GUI but not sure yet. The sprites themselves are going to move around quite a bit, so I'm not sure if I should whip up emotions or not to use with the name bubble.

What I learned today: I'm afraid to try 8dir, but I'll need to get better at it if I want to make my battle system side-view.

Edit: Fixed the mask so her hair showed in the front a bit.

GMD Day 12 - February 15, 2014

Welp, I'm still chuggin' along with this intro cutscene. Got some behavior poses done, wrote more dialogue, and fixed up the map's tint and lighting. I'm hoping to finish the whole scene either tomorrow or Monday.

I worked on scripts today. Some that will be used in my game, and some that others will use in their games.


At dugald's request, I did a script similar to my Dynamic Features to handle Dynamic Effects (for items and skills). It's not released yet - dugald is testing it for me first.


And for erthia, I converted my VX Ace Clone Events script to a VX version.


I also spent a while mucking around with my XP-to-Ace fog scripts to solve a problem, but it appears they might need further tweaking yet. I will work on that again today, because one of them is being used in my own game, and I'll need to fix it sooner or later.

Today, I've been doing lots of downloading (thank god my internet is unlimited...) 

I've downloaded and installed Shreddage II, new smexy guitars, look out for that in a few days (perhaps it might appear in a ReStaff track soon!) I also finished off this which I mentioned yesterday, then I went onto remaking a map i started, and got rather frustrated with ^_^ now I'm gonna continue working on it abit more, and show it off tomorrow :D cause it's rather boring, atm :D

Today I took it a little easier than I planned so my brain wouldn't be fried for my school project.

So I finished eventing on a map, and I began to work on Spell/Ability (Concepts) in the database.

I also spent time looking for resources. (Thalzon's Battlers was a big one looking through since I couldn't download the Zip.)

I also started looking for XP Battlers in a VX(Ace) style, obviously I came with no results as I am nearly certain such a thing doesn't exist now.

(UNLESS! Someone knows of such a thing and can PM me about it for which I would be greatful.)

Anyway that is how I spent my day, now to work on my school project (Gotta get that done by Tuesday or my grade is doomed to plummet).

Okay, today I worked on three slender windows.  This is aggravating to re-position but I think I have it decent now.  These will be the last additions to the church set.

I am tired of stained glass.  The adjustments and little effects are nice, but I've spent too much time on this as it is, and it's time to move on.

Here are the results.  And there is the tile set for those that wanna see or critique.  I have all the high res templates saved at varying stages and it took 12 .psds just to track progress over several days and about 30 different layers with merged counter parts before the .png was created.

Now the pews might get some work if I can find a proper bench to franken sprite into a nicer looking wooden bench/actual church pew.



 

Continuing with the remapping and database edits.  The Thieves town needs to be consolidated into one map and given some ruined 

buildings apart from the type in the slums.  I've also got to redo the Undead Castle and get to eventing in that first cut scene where

I can make characters move around while they talk so the player doesn't get bored.  Even with the varying expressions

and pretty graphics I can't just have people stand perpetually still and I've become aware of what people expect on a 

more simplified scale.

 

I'm still looking into a beer blast graphic, or small throwing event.  I'll have to think on it a bit.

 

I'll be happy to get back to portraits next week when the weather improves and I am not stuck at home.

It already is available.


There's just an issue with the fog following you around the map, and I have to fix it so that it locks to the map, but still obeys any fog movement you set up.

All right, posting for my Saturday. It was not the most productive day, but I did get a bit done. I continued working on compiling tiles and the market stands. I also started mapping a bit, with some of the tiles I've put together.

It may not sound like it but it was definitely more than 30 minutes of work. Probably would have been more, except I got distracted by Ideas in Ink. ;)

EVENTED SOME MORE! Bet you aren't surprised =_=. Didn't get much done since got distracted with chores and socialising, but still got some done. Tomorrow shall be judgemet day of half ass contest entries and rushed finishes, yeyy~

What better way to celebrate Valentines day than getting halfway through the Divorce sidequest? This takes a lot of time to write, as I'm trying to get an accurate reaction for each dialogue choice. Also, I've been reading a lot of articles on here, and tomorrow I'll find some inspiration when I go through the Projects in Development forum giving feedback

  • Pretty much just continued working on the next cutscene. Work left me mentally drained, so I could only handle half an hour before I collapsed.
At least tomorrow I will have substantial time to work on stuff. Hopefully anyway.

Started adding all the dialogue that my teammate wrote into the game.
Evented the first intro cutscene.
Made a few more maps that I'm not going to share because the game will be released tomorrow and secrets~
Made a title screen.
Made more sprite sheets, made alternate poses for sprites, made boss sprite.
Began eventing main gameplay arena system.

Here's a medical question for ya: Why do I start lightly coughing after I drink coffee?
Well, someone "reviewed" my game. Didn't credit me anywhere in the video and spent 2 minutes insulting it. Going to ignore that and move on.
To cut down on map lag, I've been researching how to implement a lighting layer as a single map overlay instead of a bunch of individual lights. Hopefully I'll have a screenshot soon!
Imagine having a game broken up into a whole bunch of chapters? Like Chapter 11 should be about the party members going bankrupt.
Over 1/4th of the calendars are already out :eek: Have you already put something to a good use?
