I finished a few more inner workings of the game, making sure the rest of the systems keep the same color scheme (Like battle damage popups and such)

Finished creating the idle directions of the female base:



Also completed another character's status face:



Her name is Gesine, and she's going to be one of the few main tanks of the game. With a kind heart she'd rather protect others than harm them, and her skills will reflect that. Anyway I now have two branched off paths. I can either go face happy, or create the walking animations.

What I learned today: I suck at boobs.

Game Making Drive, day 12. February 17th

I didn't accomplish anything today, I did spend over two hours trying to accomplish something but nothing came out of it...

Basically yesterday I caught on to the tail end of a conversation involving when saving should be allowed/not allowed. It made me think of my own game, and being a survival game that's focused on stealth a lot of times saving anywhere could easily break it but I didn't want to limit player saves for people that have real life and can't play from Point A to point B. So my idea was thus, have a single switch that's value is independent of your save files and whenever you die in battle it set's this switch to true right before the game over screen. Then when you load up your most recent save it sets you back to the beginning of the current area so people can save/quit and continue later whenever they want but can't use that as a way of saving and then reloading every time you get caught during one of the puzzles. 

I tried snippetting it but quickly realized it would require saving data somewhere other than the base save to accomplish which is way outside the realm of my knowledge/ability right now. So I go around the scripts section looking for things like "persistent switches" and such and find one that looks like it would work, but when that script is active I can't save my game... then found another one that looked at first like it would work but from what I can tell you have to actually save the game to get the global switches to change... so yeah, that was my day. I don't know if wasted effort counts or not but if it does:

Day #6 ~The Lingering Cold~
Been fighting a common cold the past half week or so. Didn't get much work done.

This post is coming in a little early in case I pass out before my usual post time.
◆ General Stuff
* Got a bit of progress on things done, but not nearly as much as I wanted
◆ Battle
* Yanfly Battle Engine has been put in place alongside a secondary script that shows both allied and foe battle information.

** (Still needs a bit of work due to having to translate it.)
* Nearly finished coding in the BP Mechanic found in Romancing SaGa: Minstrels Song.
** Mostly need to tweak the Note Tags and the internal functions for how it's interpreted.
** It's about 90% complete at this point. (Thanks Zeriab and IceDragon)

* Nothing of particular note has been done with equipment. This includes the mana eggs.
◆ Crafting
* Nothing of particular note has been done with this either.
◆ Writing
* Not much, done, mainly brainstorming on how I want the first Act to play out

* Temp names for all the locations on this portion of the world map, excluding the forest.

* Worked the plot around a bit to avoid it becoming another heroic journey type thing where you fight against darkdeath evilgod of random religion.

Notes: Ignore the bit with SleepSeraphina, SleepAstraea. I have yet to configure the Individual Equipment side of things so you'll probably see a few impossible combinations like LeatherShirtSpear pop up until I fix it up.

The display for this is only for equipment, I don't have anything like this setup for skills, nor do I plan on doing it any time soon. (it's a script I pulled off the internet).

Okey dokey, last day of my work week. I finally, finally feel like I've accomplished something tangible. Having made a decision about my main town map, I started expanding it greatly adding to it some areas I needed. It is SO NOT FINISHED, there's more buildings and booths to add (still have to decide on that style) and lot's and lot's of refinement to do.  But here is what I've got so far, just because I like sharing pictures. :p

I feel like I do so little, but it takes me a while to do it. I'm not a particularly fast worker. Oi.

*Struggled with some designs I'm still not happy with.

*Completed about ten maps, so the day was productive in that sense.

This one was a bit tough as I am away from my computer right now.  Working on story stuff through Evernote. :)

Rewrote a bit of the story.  Trying to work a bit more towards character depth as the game is going to be mostly story / encounter driven.

Found out most calendars don't go beyond the year 2099 so I had to do a bit of research to find out exact days in October 2139.

For being away from my computer, I feel like I've been very productive.

Today I worked on adding skills to the first character created a couple troop/enemys.

Added the first enemy fight to the game. ITs currently in rough form, but it works(as far as an early draft)
Added 2 new side quests to the beggining of the game.

Eveyone seems to be hungry, you can now choose to give someone food to gain access to secret treasures!

  • Finished the next scene. Woah! A scene in one sitting! Concept!
  • More incidental dialogues on the way to the next scene (which will be fun, but daunting... Silly graphical shenanigans).
  • Wrote a snippet to check if the party is at full health for one of the above lines.
def full_health? !(members.any? {|actor| (actor.hp < actor.mhp or actor.tp < 100)}) endNo MP and states do not continue after battle, so I didn't have to worry about checking those.

@Pern - that library looks amazing! The only thing I noticed is that two of the curtains at the top are shifted down by a pixel. TT yeah I'm a perfectionist D:

@Tsukitsune - that map looks so great :0! I love the colours, and the subtle way they change around the map ^^.

@Ksi - One Piece is amazing. Also, agreed that there are people you just don't mess with, like people who've read Hajime no Ippo and Detective Conan multiple times. Those guys are hardcore. 
I may also have read Conan a few times from start to end... I like longer manga/anime. >.>

Other than this I haven't had time for much else (as they took quite a while). 

I'll be doing one for Emmet's Lumberjack clothes as well, and maybe a behavior for Shade.  

If I loose power due to the new storm, I will try and find a way to contact the mods to give them my progress.  Please understand there is 21 inches on the ground already, and our roads are still not clear with more snow on the way.

Spent quite a bit of the day trying unsuccessfully to track down an issue a couple of people encountered in Eric's Day Off TT. 

The rest was spent scripting for a request for another project, and some more database entries.

D: I will have screenshots at some point this week, I promise TT.

Also, since judgement has now begun on the RM Venture contest entries, best of luck to all teams involved ^^!

As I said I would last night, I spent today playing - and judging, which means notes~ - games. We got a good 22 games for the event and I've been slowly playing through them. Naming no names, but there are some pretty good ones in the bunch and I'm looking forward to conferring with the fellow judges about what they thought too.

I also have been editing the LP from yesterday, though that's taking a while - especially waiting for hour long videos to render. Not looking forward to the last one which was 2 hours long... I might just leave my computer to do it overnight since I'm sure it'll take quite a while. >.<;

And that's about all I did RM-wise today, which is quite enough really.

I wasn't able to update last Feb 14, 16 and 17. I chose not to do any CD related work because I wanted to sleeeeeeep. That kind of sleep that's refreshing when you wake up. I've been having migraine attacks again. It's kinda strange because i haven't experienced them for almost 2 years. 

So today, I had a life changing experience. The jeepney I rode home almost collided with a truck. If the driver had stepped the brakes a little late, the jeepney would've been a pancake! So right then and there, i reflected and I decided to finish what i can for CD.

so for tonight, Adrian wrote the number of expressions the characters must have. I just drafted some simple expressions on what they should look like. (it's just a guide. and it looks ugly. haha)

WEW, almost done with the dialogue for the quest I'm writing. It should be done tomorrow (today). So far I've spent 4 hours on this quest, and I haven't even put it in the game yet.


In other news, I did some advertising of my tournament, and got some people to agree to play the demo when it's ready.


Finally, I just want to say something. Before we started, I was all "meh...maybe" about this, but nIw I'm on FIRE. Everything I do is RPG Maker related. I've lost interest in Breaking Bad and Dexter (for now)

Made a park bench and a king sized bed. And a bell. I don't even know why I made it, I just did. I suppose I'll have to make a tower for it now.  I then took a pattern I had created as a rock wall, turned it into the top of a different rock wall. Worked a bit on a fireplace. It could be considered done but I'm not happy with it yet.

Not bad for a very difficult day!

Just beat the last of us 2 last night and starting jedi: fallen order right now, both use unreal engine & when I say i knew 80% of jedi's buttons right away because they were the same buttons as TLOU2 its ridiculous, even the same narrow hallway crawl and barely-made-it jump they do. Unreal Engine is just big budget RPG Maker the way they make games nearly identical at its core lol.
Can someone recommend some fun story-heavy RPGs to me? Coming up with good gameplay is a nightmare! I was thinking of making some gameplay platforming-based, but that doesn't work well in RPG form*. I also was thinking of removing battles, but that would be too much like OneShot. I don't even know how to make good puzzles!
one bad plugin combo later and one of my followers is moonwalking off the screen on his own... I didn't even more yet on the new map lol.
