Game Making vs Fulltime Job?

I work from 8/8:30 to 4:30/5:00 depending on what time I get into work, it's an hour long drive (barring any traffic) for me so I usually wake up in time to get breakfast and showered before I head out the door, I'm hoping to move out closer to work soon, but who knows.


If work is slow, I can usually open up Google docs and type out some of the script or do that during my lunch break. Or this post I'm typing right now. I tend to be preoccupied with other things after work, but I try to squeeze in a little bit or just relax and save it for the weekend. These past couple of weekends though, I've hit pretty hard on working on my game so there's that at least!


The game will never be finished though and all my efforts are futile.

I used to work normal hours (9-5), then they stretched to 12-15 hour days 6 days a week... up to 20 hours a day almost. Then after my heart attack, I'm regulated to 4 hours a day 4 days a week. This *is* my job - I am the boss of the company after all XD But when I used to work part time as a secretary, I worked from 9-5 at the office and coded from 7 to midnight (more on weekends - I had no friends, lolz). Same when I went to school with a full courseload. It's all about finding time to do what you want to do until you can do it full time if possible.

A lot of great suggestions in here! I think I might try the waking up early one, usually I'm staying up way too late. But getting up early and getting my time in on my project before my day starts might be the way to go!


Before, I used to work on it Tuesday - Thursday 7pm - 11pm. And then whenever else I felt like it during the week. Perhaps if the waking up early doesn't work I'll go back to a set schedule of work time.
