Working on a map to use for a technical demo for a tactical battle system, so the goal is to start from the bottom center and make it to the broken altar through the course of the battle. The puddles and walk-able stone rubble in the water are there to demonstrate a risk/reward system for the magic system, with these areas having elements do more or less damage/healing depending on where you stand. Specifically, the upper rubble representing a place where you can get in range to attack the static mobs on the altar platform, but are also at risk of having spells like Lightning do more damage to you.

That's a neat idea, especially if you can lure enemies into the puddles and zap 'em right back. X3

Overall the map looks nice though personally I'd make a few less straight lines of the cliffs, but being that this is a TBS I guess it can't be helped. >.<)b

@Nicke - Love the atmosphere and overall design.

Messing around with weakness exploitation - don't mind the placeholder art on the 3rd character and the broken battleback.

@Lorenze nice persona feel to it. Like it a lot, could use a splash of red or teal in the portraits that appear in the left upper corner IMO

Small update to the map and showing my new quest hud. Not sure if this is the final thing but I think it looks pretty neat. :)

@Nicke Your Quest Hud - clean and unpretentious. Gives all the info needed without massive amounts of visual clutter. I like it (as you might have guessed).
    Evented or plugin?

I started working on something using FSM and some custom tiles. Parallax mapping is just too much fuuuun!

@Plueschkatze I love that map, with the screen tone and the way the map looks.. it just looks awesome.
Anyway, for my map, it's going to be a short game while I work on organizing my room, writing and such on... TADAH! It's without effects and all, but this is the opening map.

Ol' Toaster is making his world map. Finally back to developing! I intend to use the map node travel plugin and this image(when it's done) to allow the player to traverse the world. Since I do strictly parallax maps using the Medieval tiles, making so many maps for an open world game is much more difficult than creating specific regions and creating nodes to travel to. I can have a fewer maps, and eliminate filler areas where one might just wander down the road through a mostly empty forest, for example.

I've got the basic shape fleshed out, I just need to start tidying up the edges and adding a few islands. I'm no master cartographer, so my mountain placement doesn't need to be entirely realistic, but if anyone has suggestions on where they might go, I'm down. What I have at the moment is a placeholder and mountains are always a struggle for me.

@Kes : It is a plugin made by myself so I can change it how I want. Thanks for the feedback.

Whether or not that's meant in a good way is up to artistic interpretation.

I've been working on my evented battle system and it is coming along nicely. I just hope I'll be able to have a good balance on the encounters. ^^

I started over. I think a more vertical map allows me to zone things better. I have, however, resolved not to start over again at this point. I'm not going to design the completed map first, and then make the game, because I do tend to go off the rails and add in things on the fly. I don't want a map I can't really edit. So basic terrain, rivers, mountains, lakes, and the few locales I know I'm going to use for certain are going in.

It's a large image, so I took a zoomed out screenshot.

@PsychicToaster wherendid you get the map maker? Or whatever you use? I’ve always wanted one of those sorts of things for my game. But the only ones I’ve found work only with photoshop. Which is not my friend unfortunately. Lol. Because it looks awesome!

It is called Wonderdraft. It is in Early Access, but it was well worth the $20. It can do a lot, it's mostly bug-free and stable(I haven't actually encountered any myself). It solves the issue of designing coastlines like I've posted, because the brush tools for modifying them are really good. You don't have to painstakingly work to achieve jagged edges. It can be done simply by clicking. It's pretty great. The symbol collection is pretty minimal atm, but it supports custom images. It can also generate landmasses for you to modify, which is how I got my image up there.
