Both - the lesser shadows are a part of the parallax to create illusion of depth, and the stronger ones are upper layer shadows thrown over the player, NPCs etc.

@Rimmintine: The front area of the temple is a bit bare, but apart from that, I like the look of the temple. Not too fancy but not too bare either. Temples are supposed to be scarcely decorated after all. Getting rid of negative space in a map without cluttering things up can be hard.

The indoor map of this in case you didn't see it before:

Lunar Temple.png

Is right here:

mytemple.png

I know, my indoor mapping is complete crap. =P I need some feedback on it.
First map is too dark.

Second map is OK, but kinda boring.

-.- *looks at both posts* So luchinio tells me it looks fine, and the second person says it's OK.

Yep, I didn't like it much either. I'll try to fix it up some more. I'm really really bad at indoor mapping. =(

Also the autotint from the rain in ACE is very annoying. I mean why was that good idea, programmers! =P I could try and fix the tint on the first map by making it lighter, but I don't know how much it'll help.

I can't see the first map very clearly due to the darker tint but the temple map looks good :) I would maybe add some more pillars to the map.

Hello everyone :p

I've been working on putting some tilesets together and I would love to hear if they work well together >.< Here are some of the maps I made with them.

Oh and if anyone knows about a full map screenshot taker for VX, please tell me (since there is weather effects and tints on the map) as I couldn't find one that took a screenshot of the whole map in effect.

@Choco There is a script called omega-x map saver for vx that I know of. You can find it by searching on google. Also, if you're using a weather script or a moving overlay, it will blend together. So be careful!

I would not mix Mack's tiny trees with BenBen's Pine Trees. It just doesn't look correct.

Oh thanks!! So is it just the trees themselves or the color of them? I've used the same tree in this screenshot but it's just a different hue and saturation, does it look any better? Or is it maybe just the style?

EDIT

I've decided I'll keep the tree but I used a darkened mack tree that I think fits a bit better with the rest of the map(well I hope lol)

Maybe I should've used the map saver script this time >.<

@Choco: Personally, I'd ditch those large trees. They don't mesh well with the rest of the Mack-style tiles. But that's just my 2 cents. I'd prefer to keep the tree style uniform.

How I roll with my temples...

Overlays for caves.

And final title screen.

I like the map, but you are right about the trees. You have three completely different things going with your trees there - a tall fir, a Mack tree and that leafy shrub. They all look like different styles, shades, colors, whatever words artists use, they just don't "go." Maybe you can take some time to peek around and find three similar sized trees that do "go" together and just replace them in your map?

Cuz I like the map itself.

(and I do like the large trees, if you are taking votes haha)

Hey guys, long time no see!

I'm glad to be back! Everyone's gotten so much better, and I see so much promise in everyone here!

Anyway, I shouldn't go AWOL anytime soon, so I'd like to show you guys some tiles that I worked on during my wonderful

computer issues :D

I have to give props to Cel, her temple tiles really drove me to go as far as I could with these!

Please ignore the random not edited piece of wall on the far right XD The player never sees it, I just put it in there in case I had to use that space of the map as well.

@Luneth - that looks pretty trippy! I like it. Maybe put some more stuff on the platforms, they look a little bare.

Just a small one from me tonight~

@Gorlami, it seems either the light graphics or the light effect are not well located.

How could the upper north wall be lit in the corner with a lightbulb behind the corner ?

But I do like the sense of un-cleanliness of the room. I don't even want to touch anything there ;)

@cabfe, that's true. I might tone down the back wall a little. It'd still technically be getting hit by a teensy bit of light. Or I could just map in a little light on the side of that wall too.

@Gorlami: some shift clicking is needed on the floor - those are meant to be used as a sidewalk and has an edge of the street around it. Now it just looks odd as an inside floor.

Hi all,

This is my first original map. I've only gone through some tutorials and remade some nice maps I've seen around since getting the maker.

It uses stormrider/mack tileset and screen tint from a tutorial by yuna21.

My questions are:

How do I get the water to look like it's going under the cliff?

Could someone suggest a nicer river/creek auto tile as this water is dull?

Thanks in advance for any answers.

@Professor

The solution would be a Shift-Right click, then Shift-Left click. Find the tile you wish to copy, Shift-Right click it, then go to the tile you wish to replace, and Shift-Left click it.

This is pretty handy for creating the illution of depth in your maps. I hope I wasn't too terrible at explaining that! And I hope it helps!

@Gor

Thank you! I'll add some brick debris on there, just not so big that the characters would trip on them XD

As for your map, I like it! I agree with what Cel said, but that is an amazing grungy map :D

Sweet, thanks for that.

Anyone able to suggest a better river autotile that I could use?

*Edit 1* :

I have another map that I need help with.

Is it possible to make an over/under bridge with the autotile?

*Edit 2*

Just beat the last of us 2 last night and starting jedi: fallen order right now, both use unreal engine & when I say i knew 80% of jedi's buttons right away because they were the same buttons as TLOU2 its ridiculous, even the same narrow hallway crawl and barely-made-it jump they do. Unreal Engine is just big budget RPG Maker the way they make games nearly identical at its core lol.
