    One unlikely explanation could be an aspect ratio. Let's guess that he forces 4:3 resolution to widescreen on his monitor and thinks that they look good because of that.


    Anyway. I have been working with mapping today and this map is designed to be used with Khas Awesome Light Effects script.

    I respect everybodys opinion but still i can´t let go stretching my characters.

    I love square-soft-ware but mine stay stretched even with dislikes.

    For my eyes they look better than even if it is so unusual for previos/other Gameart. Will be maybe my hallmark because who dislikes this will not do the same. :)

    Don´t need to be the same opinion, but if you like my stuff anyway: Thanx. :D

    I actually believe your maps are quite good overall. However your insistence to ruin the scenery with those Charsets is your choice of course.
    Anyway, there is no problem to have placeholders as long one actually wants to make proper ones to replace them or you don't want to release game for public.

    It seems that we all (all who posted their opinions about it) agreed at this point that they are unusually tall, they remain an opinion.

    however I hope really you should consider it because that is the only flaw I see in your game is the stretch , maybe use tall sprites from :

    Look, I wouldn't play a game with those sprites. They do not look better, they are not simply "unusual", and they will not be your hallmark. If you want taller sprites, use taller sprites, but just listen to the criticism and drop the stretched sprites. They're blurry, they clash, and they don't look good.

    Its still an opinion so don't worry about it. but for me they look unusual.

    I hope you find a way to make them taller in a better way. Keep trying!

    By the way I feel like your maps are parallaxes mapped at any ways they look so much Awesome,.

    I´ll try my best and will work on the characters to improve them somehow like my whole project.

    You shouldn't tell someone to dismiss this criticism as an opinion, nor should you tell someone not to worry about it. We're here to become better developers, that process involves getting feedback and improving. Now, while some things are a matter of preference, and there are many times where you can't please everyone, this doesn't really seem to me to be a design choice.

    Lots of people are pointing out that the sprites are blurry, stretched, and clashing. This isn't a matter of preference, and I'm not really sure it's "still an opinion". It's poor quality and it's bush-league.

    Looks like the Mode7 script. Maybe a little bit modified?

    @ Robin: I think maybe you have to exept also, that there are other opinions than yours too. I think It´s a shame how you blame someone for such sentenses to someone who means it good with new ideas and visions. Where are your screenshots/Videos at all? I did not recognized one till now. Show me what you are able to, than we will talk on about my skills, maybe.

    But I´m not here to argue with you about my likings. Your critism is accepted but you also have to accept: I have my own ideas and plans. Sorry. Now please stop to be so unvidious. Thanx. Because my characters will stay taller (stretched) and I´ll work for/on a better look. Like I said, that are first trys and screenshots of a very new project. It will have it qualitys.

    So...

    Here is one more screenshot of another project of mine. ´MeTvilLe´:

    I was asked, how I did this and other lighteffects.  I worked with layers and Victor Sants ´Fogs and Overlay´ Script. Thanx very much 4 that one!

    Here a little bit more about how that script can help making beautifull lighteffects on my own example. I´m sorry, this Youtube Video is in german language, because i was not able to explain it in english.

    About the character in this picture: It do not belong there. He is just modeling. but here you can see the diffrence in tallness. They look both nice but the small one would not fit on the chair somehow...

    But that´s not the topicpoint now. ;)

    Yes.  The "small one" would not fit on some of your other sprites, yes.  But you really have a terrible mishmash of different sizes all over the place.  And some are stretched.  While others are bigger to begin with.

    Our point isn't that your stretching itself is necessarily bad.  It's that mixing stretch with originally big with chibi doesn't work!

    Your mapping and effects skills overall are VERY good.  It's this mixing of different styles that burns the retinas.

    By the way, maybe the spritesstretchproblem has will be smaller in future...

    I tried another method. Look here.

    The stretched sprites...really don't look good 3: Try using Mack style or XP style instead!
