I assume you make your own overlays then luchino? I've been trying to get mine to look like that and it won't happen! And I'm horrible at photoshop lol

Lighting's actually a lot less difficult than it seems to be. At first, I didn't know a damn thing about how to use brushes right; flow I'm looking at you~ Lol, but basically to make..well, average/decent lighting, you'll need a brush, and lower the opacity to about 60-80% with flow being 50% or more. If you don't change the flow, you can still do a gaussian blur effect, which spreads out the lighting while also lowering the opacity depending on the size.

Another (and simpler, though it might not look as good) way is to use inner and outer glows in a layer's blending options. Just fiddle around with those until you're satisfied~ :)

So you just load your map into Photoshop or GIMP and do what you just said on it?

@Luchino: I know this is not about the map, but the face borders at the message box could need some antialiasing/blending, also its interiors. The hair seems "blurry", so you could use a little of that PS blur tool to diminish the sharpiness of some color interactions. Also I'm against that white border, its placement it's fine but seems like too much decoration when paired with that orange figure.

Maps seem fine, nothing to say. I wish VX autoshadows didn't overlapped like this though

@Soma: I really like the ground. I like how subtle change is made between it and the grass, how it blends. It's something we normally see as square grass patches, but in yours is much more natural. Thing is, it looks so natural that it contrasts with the rest of the screen so much. IDK, I feel it doesn't blends with the rest of the screen. Probably it's because of that RTP stone wall texture.

@adiktuzmiko: Open beaches are hard to get right, because there is not much stuff you can use on them, and they tend to look very unnatural when using vanilla graphics. You can fill in some detail if you find different gradations for the sand. Something like this.

@WNxTyr4el: Don't hesitate to leave black tiles lol. You don't need to use all the map space. Reduce a little empty spaces, and the map will look better. It now seems huge and empty.

@Indrah: I like how things match up and become squares haha! Seems nice. Also I want to see those towns being populated. For now they seem like ghost towns, and empty.

Now I'm going to post something...

RMXP, 2x graphics BTW. It's an INN. There's a girl standing over the seating, that's intentional lol (she's upset for "something").

Salut,

OZ

Trying to mess with GIMP.  I still suck.  I don't really know how to achieve that awesome lighting that people get :(

Mm, unfortunately there's not really much I can do about the walls. I mean, there are round and diagonal walls out there of course like in the XP rtp, but for some reason I just couldn't get 'em to look right with this map, so I just went with darkened VX rtp walls instead~ :3

@WNx Lol, well you can't expect anything of good quality on your first try (unless you've secretly prayed to a Daedra Lord and acquired beginner's luck), but it doesn't look all that bad, at least imo. :)

@Soma: Thanks!  I tried!  I'm open to any form of tutorial or anything to get nice lighting effects.  Or how to create decent overlays.

I found two pretty decent tutorials; one on lighting/shadows, and the other on making fogs. I'll send ya the links to both for them in a pm, in a little bit~ :)

@wyn - I'm not a fan of those shadow leaves... mostly because the trees  that you used can't really have that kind of shadow... unless of course you say that there are much higher trees there that casts the shadows... hahahaha... the only real thing that bothers me is the checkerboard in your messageboxes

and hmmm... A room:

@adiktuzmiko: yeah I realized that. I was just gonna say that there are higher trees lol. Idk how to make one that would match MY map :(

And the checkerboard idk how to fix lol. It's a premade window

and also, the light is shining on the left part and you can see the rays of the sun, so there should be no shadows there... at least make it less on the part where the rays strike... XD

well, if it's intentional then it's fine...

Yeah it's a premade overlay. No idea how to really edit it so I left as is lol. I'll take away the glow. It's cool. I'm just trying to make my maps pop a little more but failing hard. I got some good tutorials but only how to make fogs. Not lighting type overlays or anything. The most I can do is light shining from windows indoors. But that's about it. And that's only on a map that doesn't scroll lol. Can't figure out the scroll thing.

EDIT: Fixed the lighting.  Better?

Send me the window you're using, I'll try and get rid of the pattern. :)

And I agree with adiktuzmiko, the shadows look a bit nicer~

@Soma: thanks man, sent it away

@adz: Thanks for the comments!  Helped me out a lot!  Should I continue the rays onto the next map as well?  Into the village of Lor (posted a few pages back)?

Just beat the last of us 2 last night and starting jedi: fallen order right now, both use unreal engine & when I say i knew 80% of jedi's buttons right away because they were the same buttons as TLOU2 its ridiculous, even the same narrow hallway crawl and barely-made-it jump they do. Unreal Engine is just big budget RPG Maker the way they make games nearly identical at its core lol.
