It part of the intro, The village was build to protect it's villagers from attack by delaying the attacker movement, Instead of putting all the house put together in a single place which end up in hostage of multiple people instead of 1 to 2, the villagers decided to be separated so they can ring the bells that they are attacked. And give other enough time to escape. Sacrifice is also shows. Since the area where is located is also remote outside the country But consider the villager know that danger is around the corner and to protect the people that is located at top left of the map (which I cannot tell why Because It will spoiled the plot). Is there a story-related reason why everything is so far apart? If that is a village, then houses usually huddle together much more for mutual protection and general neighbourliness. If I were the player I would want a good reason to go traipsing all that way just to get from one house to another. Of course, if it's not a village, then delete the previous sentences.
