I like the foreground to background combination of those two pics... they look way nicer than the first two pics (especially that fiery woods)... XD

@adiktuzmiko haha you're not missing out on much, it's just a modified Tankentai with some action sequences. I do wish they didn't block youtube in my office too... I mean, it's not like that'll keep me from finding other things to do.
@ShinGamix Now that looks a lot better. Now what would be really great is if you could maybe tinker with the numbers on the MP/TP bars. Cause from the way I see it, the TP and MP numbers seem to overlap on top of one another.

Well the MP/TP bar isn't a big issue. The numbers are still readable. May fix it down the road.

And now slimes have invaded the town market!!!

(edit-moved the bottom of the battleback up so it wouldn't be under on touching the menu.)

I wiish I could make animations in the battleback like SFII did.

@Dumbfoundead

I am really impressed by your battle animations and battle style. I'd love to get some pointers from you on how you did all that.

crap

this might look better

Version 6 "wide"

Opinions??

@ShinGamix: It looks great! The only thing I don't like, more as a personal taste, is having the battlefield delimited by borders. I wonder what are the things floating over the characters. There's also a thing with TP numbers, they got overlapped by the MP gauge. Would like to try it out someday :33, so good luck and cheers!

@adiktuzmiko: I like the interface. It's simple in terms of elements, but has style and gains complexity thanks to that background. I love that background <3, it's interesting, and says stuff about your game, I mean, it gives the menu design some personality. AND it reads greatly good.
My question is, can you move the command window and the skills window to the right? center the three of them (including the EXP window). And to the EXP window you can remove its blue background. Dunno how it would look, but it's one alternative, I love alternatives <3.

@WNxTyr4el: Well, yeah I think it's a little weird. It could make the effect of both maps being from different games. Maps are nice, only thing is that most of time I get weirded by people making perfect square houses that uses all space in the map.

@Jomarcenter: There are some parts of trails where it will have a LOT of space. You could start off filling a little these spaces. Don't fill it all of course because the ambient seems to be some kind of open space, but yeah, a little more details here and there.

And now that I see battle systems, I'll go with mine (Ccoa's, but anyway, what I meant was the one that I use, ah, nevermind)

(uh, Hikari sprites are so old, I better give them a little retouch -now I smell the eternity!-).
Translation: Acción->Action (skill window), Inventario->Inventory (you know already), Posición->Position (lets you switch between front and rear lines).
Also L+R lets you escape instantly, no random chance for that. Thing is, I consider your time wasted on a unfruitful battle enough as a toll.

Any opinion is welcomed~~<3, ヾ(●ω●)ノ . . . . . . 〜( ̄▽ ̄〜)

@muramasa: Yeah I would use just RTP but I feel it gets too bland and I only have so much to work with. I would mix DS with Mack but I'm not so sure on how I'd go about combining them. I guess the same way Exhydra mentioned a few pages back? Just may take some time. I'm lucky though because I'm still working on database stuff so I don't have to work too hard on my maps yet. I can decide if I want to keep the RTP/Mack style or do the combining. I'll think about it.

Here's a short preview to my game.  Just wanted to see how this movie works and looks.  I think I did a pretty bang up job, lol.  Made using 17 layers in GIMP and then moving each one individually to create the fade ins and outs.

Enjoy!  Let me know what you think.  Thanks to Soma for helping me out with how to accomplish this!

And yes, I know the title at the title screen doesn't match the title given in the cinematic lol.

@WNx:

It's ok, but it's kind of lackluster. If you have to use the wall of text explaining the story, you should break it up with pictures, or evented scenes to make it more interesting to the player.

It also starts pretty abrupt. Instead of just starting in the house, I'd show the prologue with the music first. That would make for a smoother transition into gameplay.

This is easily done by just making an empty map, and having the first character be an empty slot. Then use the autostart event to put it all into motion. When you're done, just fade out screen and change party members, teleport and fade-in.

@hian: So start it at the beginning of the game? I was going to add pictures or something but I don't have any lol. And idk what I would do for an evented scene :(

@WNxTyr4el: Well, nice to see it moving. The introductory text on the other hand could have some more hype. Maybe some illustrations, and stuff. Also there's some problems regarding to the font, because, at least the K, seems confusing (the Ring? ah no, the King xD). It's nice to use a serif font though, it helps reading.

Ok, so let's try a video, of battles...

Any opinions? Think of it as a game, not only as a RMXX or whatever game,

@muramasa: that background was a pic of a "wormhole" animation I made in 3ds max years ago... and I really can't do complicated stuff so I stick to simple and I do believe that simplicity brings out the true beauty... hahahahaha... I'll try to move the windows a bit... it's not yet final anyways...

those moles (are they moles?) are cute... too bad you need to fight them...

@wyn - you can also opt to just enable the transparency on option on the database instead of making a blank character... that way you won't need to have a dummy actor and switch actors, just disable transparency when you need the actor to show... XD

@muramasa: Thanks for the feedback. But what do you mean illustrations? I'm not a very good artist/drawer lol. What would you suggest? And lol yeah I wasn't sure about that font. I'll change it up tomorrow :)

EDIT: @adz: yeah man that's what I did on that video above. Thanks!

@WNx:

Well, if you're going to start it in the house like that, a slow fade in would still look better. Maybe a short paragraph describing where you are, or what's going on.

Make a blank map like I said before, and fade out. Then set the screen tint to completely black. Fade in, an then do a slow tint back to normal, for a fade in effect. Or you could have a black image cover the screen and change its opacity gradually.

As for making the writing more exciting;

First figure out how to visually illustrate what the text is saying.

If you can't find pics on the net that fits, or make your own, you can always just make it in RPG maker.

If you want to show a war, have a scene with a lot of soldiers standing off against each other. Be creative.

If eventing becomes too much work, just make the scene visually, without events. Open the map in game with a empty slot character as the main character, and take screenshots.

Tinker around with tints, hues etc, and just use these pictures together with the writing.

Edit:

Yeah you can use the transparency option. I only use dummy characters out of habit because I use certain scripts and methods that makes this method unfeasible.

@hian: that isn't where the player starts. The player actually starts in a different map and moves to the village where this house is. Thanks for the suggestions though. I have a lot to think about

Illustrations as something that illustrates the subject. You don't need to be a good drawer, or even you could not need to draw at all. You can use images if you find some that illustrate correctly, OR make very simple illustrations, in a egiptian/mesopotamian style. Hierarchic figures doing stuff slowly scrolling from left to right, or some of them up-down to give it variety :3. Some Legend of Zelda games do something pretty similar, so you could get some inspiration there ;) .

And I wanted to put this. Not the actual battle background nor anything, but let's say I want to ask you people if this reminds you of something xD...

Our latest feature is an interview with... me?!

People4_2 (Capelet off and on) added!

Just beat the last of us 2 last night and starting jedi: fallen order right now, both use unreal engine & when I say i knew 80% of jedi's buttons right away because they were the same buttons as TLOU2 its ridiculous, even the same narrow hallway crawl and barely-made-it jump they do. Unreal Engine is just big budget RPG Maker the way they make games nearly identical at its core lol.
Can someone recommend some fun story-heavy RPGs to me? Coming up with good gameplay is a nightmare! I was thinking of making some gameplay platforming-based, but that doesn't work well in RPG form*. I also was thinking of removing battles, but that would be too much like OneShot. I don't even know how to make good puzzles!
one bad plugin combo later and one of my followers is moonwalking off the screen on his own... I didn't even more yet on the new map lol.
