Here's the aforelinked area more fleshed out and being navigated :)

that scrolling fog looks awesome... took me quite a while to see the rope on the upper left "tower", at first I thought he was moving up the tower without ropes... the same with the upper left ropes, the fog does a nice job of hiding them... :)

@shingamix

Your alterations have really improved things.  The only thing I would suggest is to do with the village/town gateway.  You have a beam going across it with plants hanging from it.  Nice touch, but wouldn't it be throwing some sort of shadow on the ground?  Otherwise it can look as if it is at ground level.

Ah, just spotted that your line of trees on the left hand side have the top cut off by the bottom tile of the house, needs an evented graphic to finish it

@Galenmereth

I like it; very good use of fog.

@Galenmereth Very nice. I'd suggest you use the "jump" command to make him jump from ledge to ledge though. I like your use of platforming. It's very unique and feels like you're jumping around in a dream world for real. No complaints here.

@ShinGamix Omg it looks so beautiful. ksjp117 brought up good points, otherwise I can't see anything else wrong fmpov. Well done :)

@ShinGamix: That looks really nice! I just have one small quibble with it; the tree by the left of the porch of the leftmost house is headless; poor thing :(

@Raiden : I have yet to see it in action, but with stills I can only say : too dark.

I can't see further than 3 tiles away !

Reduced the screen tint to (-17,-17,-17,17) (was -34,-34,-34,34). Hope that it won't be too dark.

@Raiden I don't recommend including "suicide" as a menu option in case it may offend people. Apart from that, a save function may be useful. I don't think it's too dark actually. It suits the mood of the game. As long as it's only dark in open spaces, then it's fine, because you can move in any direction. Still, you can ask yourself "do I need a restrictive light system"? I know plenty of games that think they needed a lighting system didn't actually need one, because RPG Maker doesn't tend to treat shadowy games well, for some reason.

It'll be a horror mystery genre game therefore I've prepared a versatile lighting system.About the "suicide" option, it's a parody of Load function as a penalty for returning to checkpoints by loading. (though it can be bypassed by restarting the game program) Didn't know that it offends though.

Save function is checkpoint based.

Lastly, thanks for the comment. I'll revise the use of the "Suicide" option while hoping to receive further feedback on the two screenshots (one revised) posted.

The only reason why it may offend is if people have had close ones die by suicide and they may feel like the game is trivializing it. Don't think it's that bad though I'm just giving you a heads up.

@Raiden : I prefer the revised version better.

As I understand it, your "suicide" option is like a "chicken out" ?

Given it's a horror game, black humor can be a good idea but I agree that it may offend some people.

Real life suicides are not to be taken lightly, so extra care is required when using this theme.

I saw the suicide option, and honestly, I'm offended that that is in the game as an option. I had numerous experiences with suicide these past few years, and it's no trivial thing, let alone trivial enough that you can use for just loading another save file. It's rather insensitive, and quite frankly, idiotic and ignorant. I HOPED that it was going to be something very important to the game, but if it's just a renaming of the load function... No, not cool. Change it back to "Load" or "Quit."

But on a lighter note, I actually like your lighting. (Pun intended)

I have to contend and say that nothing should be off limits unless it's in poor taste. Take humor, for example; there shouldn't be topics that we could not make jokes about. But there's a fine line between what is tasteful and what is not, and that line will always be subjective.

I still think that if you're erring on the line of poor taste and it's not actually that important to keep it then I don't think you should. I think that the nomenclature could be changed to "Load" unless it was extremely important that it must be suicide. But I'm of the opinion you have to always be careful that whenever you go near that line you're doing it for proper reasons and that you can actually pull it off. As it looks I think it should be removed because it just kind of looks tacked on as an afterthought rather than central to gameplay. If something required you to suicide as part of a moral decision that displayed some sort of story significance then it might be warranted, but even then I'd advise against it unless it was done with extreme tactfulness.

I understand fighting for the right to say anything you want, and that's cool, but what makes this so offensive and ignorant is HOW it's used. How it's used as just a replacement to the load option is what makes this whole thing an issue. If it actually was more fleshed out and did something more than just load, THAT WOULD BE OKAY. But since he said it's just to load a save, it's making suicide seem like such a trivial and okay thing to do, which it's not. *Insert numerous suicide related stories here* The thing is, it's not even humorous. I didn't get it at all when I first saw it, and I'm sure I'm not alone.

BUT TO KEEP THINGS ON TOPIC:

Here's a little screenshot of a project I was working on!

@Yonma Looks great. Have you been using Luchino's mapping tutorial by any chance? Either way it's very cool. I don't know if this is a personal choice but I would extend each stairs one further on the bottom. It makes the stairs look like they have some depth. Also I see that you're using shadows all the way up to the top of the ledge. That's an interesting decision. You could somehow fix the shadows so that the shadows are above the window like you've done with the grass. I don't know if it's me but sometimes it just looks wrong to have so many trees all on the edge of the cliff like that.

I like the subtle lighting effects and the bases of the houses. I also like the sprites of your party and NPCs and I see that you are using falling leaves which is a good addition for this kind of town scenario. Keep up the good work.

I agree that in this case it seems to be there for no good reason at all, and because of that it falls into the area of poor taste for me too.
