Not bad mlogan, but the upper looks a little plain, I'd add some more of the decor you added in the lower area of the map!~

Meanwhile, here's a shot of my VN with 2 complete busts up~

Deenos: I love it! But, I think it would be more effective visually without that background, I would either add a different one, or bring the sides out and only having a parallax for the top part.

I'm pretty new to mapping, and perhaps I should put this somewhere else. But I see a lot of people saying shift-clicking is a good to make habit of while mapping. My questions: What does shift-clicking do, and why?

I actually can't quite remember if I posted this map in here before or not, but even if I have I've updated it quite a bit. I feel like the bottom row of windows on the church in the upper right there might be too high, but I don't quite like how they look if I move them a tile down. I'll probably be fiddling with it all day.

Also, looking at it now I realize the autoshadows didn't quite work right with the house on the bottom right. I'll have to fix that as well.

@Bloodmorphed

There is an excellent tutorial on shift-click mapping in the tutorials thread; can't give a link just now, but it's easy enough to find.

It's one of those things that take a page and a half to describe in words, but is very easy with the visuals.  I strongly recommend that you head over to that tutorial and see how the technique can transform your map making skills.

@ksjp17

Thank you for the speedy response. I'll see if I can find it.

EDIT: HOLY COW! Thanks a lot for that tutorial. That will change how I view mapping now. The next step is Practice! But he only showed mountain examples. But I would assume you could do this for buildings as well? I wouldn't see a need to do it grass tiles or anything like that (other then it also being a cliff/mountain.)

@Xortberg it could use a little more grass, flowers, trees, etc, but otherwise the basic shaping and layout is nice. I noticed that the further you get from the church, the more negative space there is. Was this intentional? Because its very clever.

Yeah, this is among the first of the maps I've ever created, so I figured I'd let the detail work wait till I got the big stuff out of the way.

Also I have very little artistic knowledge so I don't know if it's 'negative space' or not, but I do intend for the church to be the only building in the town that's really well maintained, so the rest of the town would be a bit more barren and run-down since most of their money goes to the church. So if that's what you meant then yeah, intentional XD

Haha, negative space is the space that isn't filled with anything. This http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Negative_space explains it in more depth though.

It's just that there's more tress closer to the church than further away, and even the houses off to the side are in disrepair compared to the church and the other house, giving the impression that in the area, things only flourish and thrive under the shadow of the church. I'm probably taking a lot more from a relatively simple and barely started map though!

Remember your shadows, too! The church is a much bigger building -- it should cast a bigger shadow!

Nah, that's basically what I was hoping to convey, so hooray for that. Looks like I managed to do what I wanted pretty well XD

And yeah, shadows. I'll have to be fiddling with them for some time as well.The stairs leading up to the church might also need some. I'll add it to the list of things to do.

@G-Langz - yeah it looks VERY MUCH LIKE Deeno's... anyway, looks good... though those slime blends so well with the terrain, I can't see them quite well...

OH well, because sometimes playing in normal mode isn't enough, we need to go EX

@zachfoss: It looks good, but it's very hard to see where you can walk and not. Do you have free movement, or grid movement? If grid, it's unclear what's collidable and what's not :)

Just beat the last of us 2 last night and starting jedi: fallen order right now, both use unreal engine & when I say i knew 80% of jedi's buttons right away because they were the same buttons as TLOU2 its ridiculous, even the same narrow hallway crawl and barely-made-it jump they do. Unreal Engine is just big budget RPG Maker the way they make games nearly identical at its core lol.
Can someone recommend some fun story-heavy RPGs to me? Coming up with good gameplay is a nightmare! I was thinking of making some gameplay platforming-based, but that doesn't work well in RPG form*. I also was thinking of removing battles, but that would be too much like OneShot. I don't even know how to make good puzzles!
one bad plugin combo later and one of my followers is moonwalking off the screen on his own... I didn't even more yet on the new map lol.
time for a new avatar :)
