here is the second floor, has lords room, royal guest room, servants rooms & stock closets.  Im struggling a bit with that to add to hallway to make it less boring.

uhm, the border between the rocks and walls doesn't look nice... plus, IMO, the rocks actually look like holes in the ground... maybe because of that weird way that you tried to make them with the walls

Do you make new tiles to decolate your map?

err..., I don't actually understand this bit. I'm looking for rocks in Stridah's maps and not seeing any. Unless you mean the tiles used to create the 'ceiling' (= the cliff the rooms are cut out of)? But they are normal ceiling tiles for a cave, so I'm confused here.

Need some feedback on this, I've been working on it so long I don't even know if it looks good.

That's the dungeon! I like the atmosphere. The plants and the light and shade make it so natural!

EDIT

And you well hide its squareness. All the tiles have round feeling that makes it comfortable.

@Goatrider

I like it.  One small (oh, alright then, nitpicky) point is that the edges of the pools of light are a bit abrupt.  I would have thought they needed to be a touch more blurred so that the transition isn't so sharp.

@ipei what do you mean if i made any of those tiles or objects myself? No i have a pretty large tile selection though.

@ks yes they are cliff ceiling tiles, i might make a version with wood ceiling to compare, and one with all cliff walls.  The building was carved into the mountains so i want that to be known and seen when in there.  Still fooling.

@Shana if you have a better way of letting it be known that the building is in a desert mountain cliff let me know.  Real life example would be if i just put sheet rock on a stone wall, and didn't

sheet rock the ceiling so the stone is still sticking out.  That is the thought process.

@goat very nice map man! Love that you use round corners & nice color palette.

p.s.  any advice on spicing up the hall way?

@Stridah

I guessed by your 'struggling' that you make tiles.

EDIT

How about putting some pictures on the wall. It's very likely for them to have pictures.

@Goatrider I really like the natural aspect of your map but I do agree with an earlier statement that the light around the water is if off.  It's too neat and perfect to be natural. I think if you fan and fade it out more so theres less os such a clean light/no light line it'll look great.

@Goatrider: I wouldn't smudge the edges of the light too much though. If it's coming in from a hole in the ceiling, it should look incredibly spotlight-like.

What you could do, if that's the sort of look you're aiming for, is make the light brighter and more concentrated near the top and gradient into a softer light as it widens out near the bottom. If you look up beams of light shining through holes in caves though, they typically do have a very strong indication of their shape since light travels in a straight line. (some random google image seach photo showing light coming in through a hole in a cave) But yeah! Personal opinion there but, I wouldn't actually change the shape or edges of what you have there at all, just fiddle with the opacities at different points along the shape.

@Stridah:  Not bad, but the wood floor comes off too strong color wise.  Maybe darken it a little?  Also, I don't really feel the cavern overlay works as the ceiling tile...I'd just keep it as a regular wood/room look...let the outside of the building suggest it's a mountain village.

@ ultimus yeah i saw you say this on the first one i am going to make a version with a ceiling tile, then one with the walls alos cave and see what i like best.  Darken the floor or remove some saturation? I think darkening it will draw more attention no?

@stridah: No, darkening the floor will add some much needed contrast and the brighter walls and objects should pop more because of it. It's impossible to say for sure, without a visual, but it's certainly something to try. Because I agree, the details of the objects get lost with the floor. And it jives awkwardly with the rug too at the moment.

As for how to decorate the walls; you mention this is a Lord's Room and Royal's Guest rooms and such; does this lord have a colour theme, banner, logo, crest? You could add some banners themed to the family's crest if they have one or such. Fancy archway styled decals, panels, carvings, and reliefs and things are also pretty big in royal palace's and things. Rather than setting things on or in the hall - and decorating the wall itself.

A darkened background (in this case, the floor), makes walls and objects pop more, making it more detailed.

@Makio-Kuta: Yay, Graphic Design! *high fives*

Ok i might make a few different versions, does not take long to swap tiles in "tiled" then just place it as bottom layer in gimped and hide the current background.

How exactly did you get that minimap up there? I do like the maps though!

Our latest feature is an interview with... me?!

People4_2 (Capelet off and on) added!

Just beat the last of us 2 last night and starting jedi: fallen order right now, both use unreal engine & when I say i knew 80% of jedi's buttons right away because they were the same buttons as TLOU2 its ridiculous, even the same narrow hallway crawl and barely-made-it jump they do. Unreal Engine is just big budget RPG Maker the way they make games nearly identical at its core lol.
Can someone recommend some fun story-heavy RPGs to me? Coming up with good gameplay is a nightmare! I was thinking of making some gameplay platforming-based, but that doesn't work well in RPG form*. I also was thinking of removing battles, but that would be too much like OneShot. I don't even know how to make good puzzles!
one bad plugin combo later and one of my followers is moonwalking off the screen on his own... I didn't even more yet on the new map lol.
