Ok so i think i will go back to the cliff tiles, and maybe try a set with more rock walls, i can try to brush them together some too.

@ allerka i really like what you did top left with the trees and stuff...as for the rest of the map, that seems like a hell of a lot of buildings! with interiors that is a huge undertaking!

@Bloodmorphed :

Gothic fonts can be hard to read when you're not used to them.

I'd suggest a more readable font.

Hm, this is the first time I've actually have read gothic fonts and I can read it perfectly. I just don't like bland fonts is all. Would you recommend a medieval font thats good looking but read-able? This is the only one I have found.

I've found this one if it's medieval enough for you.

The problem with Gothic fonts is that, for a one-word sentence it's okay but reading texts (dialogues etc.) can be difficult.

Take the M of your MP text. If I didn't know it was MP first, I wouldn't know what it was.

Have you tried displaying your dialogues with your font ? If it's okay, why not.

But I doubt it.

@Bloodmorphed: I've run into the same questions about font with my stuff. For short stuff like menus, a fancier font is ok, but generally for dialogue and longer messages it's gonna be tough. I've been using one called AidaBook for my menus, there's a few different websites with a variety of medieval-style fonts on them. As for the border, I'm not sure. It could work one way or the other, but if you go without, I'd tweak the edges to look less uniform. It looks like there's also a slight patterning glitch, too.

@Stridah: Thankfully, only a few buildings will actually be enterable. Main character houses, the inn/tavern, the shops, etc. I might actually combine the items and smith into more of a "general" store to cut down on that a bit,  now that I think about it.

I use yanflys messaging system so my dialog and menu uses different fonts, well it can. The font cabfe link I think would be good for dialog while the rest can be what I have now?

Also how can I get of of having to keep the normal one in the folder? Gothic or w/e its called. I'd really only there be 1 or two fonts in the game folder.

EDIT:

here is some dialog with the gothic text:

Also I know there is a graphical glitch there. I am not good enough artist to fix it.

@Allerka I really like how you use the XP tileset mixed with the VXAce set to give it a nice feel though there a bit too many square buildings though perhaps vary the building a bit more. though i'm looking forward to see the progress of this map.

@Bloodmorphed: Those graphics reminds me a bit of the Ultima 8 graphics. However, I find the font really difficult to read. I think you should go with a gothic type of font, but maybe not that one.

I find it easy to read. Not too sure why though and I understand how people could have a hard time reading it. I'll use a different font for my dialog. I'll keep this one for my menu though.

I have been working an hour and a half on gimp trying to figure out how to do the paper how I want. I finally got it... however the menu is quite... well you shall see.

Dialog:

Main menu:

Now  the dialog box I absolutely love, aside from me having to space every line 13 or 14 times but I still love it.

However the menu could pose a problem. I'm using yanfly's message system so I think I could customize it to fit in there. I think?

Also I think I would have to use busts to show the faces. Oh dear god I hate configuring busts :( such a drag.

In the end, it's up to you to decide. I find it hard to read, but others might find it easy to read. It's a matter of taste :) .

New screen from me. This one is huge.

And to be honest, I really hate mapping villages/towns. I never get satisfied with the end result.

I like this maps. Plus I added screenshots after you had posted another post, so I had changed the font, is it any better?

I like your toen though, I can't quite seem to get my roofs to look that good. I think I need to find that roofing guide again :/. It looks really pretty though. I always wondered how people made those cliffs in the water (if it is not a tile itself) is it?

@Bloodmorphed: I find the text alot easier to read now :) .

The cliffs in the water are made on layer 1, and the water is a special autotile made on layer 2. It's a bit tricky to work with that water autotile. I had to read the tutorial on how to use it 2 or 3 times in order to get how it works. But I love the end result :) .

That's why I prefer XP over VX. I really don't like the mapping system in VX. I know you can make gorgeous maps with VX, but I just never got the hang of it :D .

Not a map this time. Just playing around with the battle system.

@Shadow - is the bar for HP too? I think it looks a little out of place. If you were to keep it, I'd stick it at the bottom of the face graphics.

Biiiiiig picture here, this is a little campsite underneath a ruined overpass.

@Shadow - having an HP bar while SP does not, seems a bit off... and maybe you could lower it a bit so that it doesn't overlay on the lips of the pictures?

The bar is for the HP. The SP dosen't have any bar. I don't know why, but the script I got works that way. Thanks for the comments though! Im going to play around with it a bit more.

Finally been able to make sprite "equips"... CG will be having hats on the next version... :)

ChickenGamesHat.PNG

and this one is kinda a test of the layering... I added the yellow character as a body equip and the chicken hat as a hat...

@the Shadow I actually like how there's no SP/Mp bar, it draws more attention to the characters HP. I like it overall, but there's just too much "empty" space... maybe that's just me though

@quigon I REALLY like what you've got going on. But it's sooo dark couldn't really tell it was a campsite... But that's how LIMBO was anyway, so, good job!

So I made some changes to my title screen, and I've also done a few other things too!

So what do you guys think?

Just beat the last of us 2 last night and starting jedi: fallen order right now, both use unreal engine & when I say i knew 80% of jedi's buttons right away because they were the same buttons as TLOU2 its ridiculous, even the same narrow hallway crawl and barely-made-it jump they do. Unreal Engine is just big budget RPG Maker the way they make games nearly identical at its core lol.
