@Shabz: I agree with everyone else, it's a lovely map but it feels way too busy. Do people live in this town and walk on those paths often? If so, their feet will kill off the vegetation that is trying to grow through the stone and docks and such.

I've been fudging with this for hours now. I'm not looking for opinions on the layout of this map, because I just threw it together quickly to see, mostly on the colour balance. I been futzing with the colours and contrasts and how much red and yellow balance things have forever now. ((and then had to toss on the snow which is just another layer of what the heck balancing this mess--))

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated!

@Stridah - I'm so behind, I'm sorry, but your mountain rooms with the darkened tiles looks SOOOO much better!

@makio

slightly stumped here; it doesn't seem quite right to me and yet I can't put my finger on why not.

Is it that the red tree is too close in colour/tone to the cliff (or hill edge, or whatever, I think it's a mini-cliff tile)?  I'm looking at where a tree actually overlaps the cliff tile.

Is it that the overall feel is drab?  But if it's autumn going on winter that would be appropriate.

As individual items I think they are very good.  It's the ensemble where I feel that something is a bit odd.

Maybe, on reflection, it's the grass?

Dunno. Perhaps I should delete this post, but on the other hand there may be something there that will be of use to you.

I hear ya ksjp17, I'm having all the same feelings with it. I'll fiddle with the cliffs a bit to try to make them stand out more, that's a good point. And a friend suggested bringing back some of the green to the grass to try to break things up from being all the same tone everywhere and add some contrast (and kill off some trees but... I just hadn't got there yet lol)

I'll try these things (after work sadly :/ ) and see where that takes it.

Thanks for the input! It helps just knowing that something is still not right. :)

@Makio-Kuta: I'd pobably add a few of in between colours like orange/ brown with the yellow and red. Also, if it's a transition from Autumn to Winter, wouldn't there be some trees with no leaves?

@Chaos: Yeah, I'm just trying to get the colour balances done before I started throwing in leafless trees. But! I should have realized that I need them there to help balance things anyway pff Thanks for the input! I'll work in some more oranges and browns for sure.

EDIT1

hrmmhmmhmmmm Gonna try something completely different with the snow, but still playing. Guh, colours are so fickle!

EDIT2

And with some snow. Still not 100% satisfied, but it's officially time for work now.

@Makio-Kuta: You might just want to leave the bad trees out, looks still better than having mapping errors on your map.

@Topic:Got my Cooking System done, well except for the background, though I might leave that as is or pick a simple map screenshot, if I fail to "draw" a good alternative.

That's pretty cool, and if you wanted to, with minor tweaks, you could turn it into a full blown crafting/alchemy system. That's a very good base system you have to work with there.

@Lihinel: Well, I didn't think it a big deal when I'm just looking for colour balance opinions on the tile set and not the layout of the map (cause the map itself was thrown together quickly just to see the pieces together), but I fixed the one tree just in case it hampers things that much :x

Makio-Kuta: The new colors are much better, I think that's a good balance now. Having snow with trees full of leaves looks very odd to me, unless it was an unusually early snow that doesn't really happen. On the rare occasions when it does the snow wouldn't form as a blanket, but as clumps that weigh down the leaves and smaller branches so that you see the form of the branches more than the form of the canopy. It's a lot easier to just keep the snow to the bare trees.

Hey guys! Thanks so much for the feedback, I just had sometime to tweak em!

Brightened and sharpened the title screen as well as changed the decal opacity so it wasn't blending in with the "E" too much.

Also did a few light saturation and color changes to the bar, I think it pulled some of the blending colors away far enough, but I may need to do a bit more. As for that stinking plant, I moved it closer to the wall and away from the fireplace a bit.

@OZ the tavern looks great!  I noticed you moved to plant looks much more natural now.  I think the components are there for the title screen but it still needs some more play, now the logo looks blurred.  Can you try maybe using a solid background color and a few variations where you move the logo around, say on top of the text etc.  I think the pieces are there but it needs some fine toning, maybe someone who is more of an expert can jump in here.

Alright, did some more work on the master map for Montblanc, primarily detailing the buildings and a little bit of other things. A couple buildings still don't have windows and such because I'm going to build out their interiors first and then detail them on the outside to match with the windows.

@Allerka, I think the buildings that came out the best have very nice symmetry and feel.  Some of the other buldings the windows are in awkwards spots, or weirdly mixed.  I understand that you are probably looking for a more random feel. But to me it is making it look kind of messy, id love to see you stick with 1-2 window and door types.

Hmmm, my title screen will need some readjusting it looks like. Maybe a solid white? Sharpen the decal back up and move it elsewhere...?

Thank you for the feedback, yeah I am not sure about my ceiling either, though the other attempts didn't yield much better results!

darn interiors...

Alrighty, I'll scale back on the variety a bit and take a look at where they might be awkwardly placed. I tend towards symmetrical stuff, so I was trying to get away from that with some asymmetrical designs as well.

If you want i can circle the buildings that IMO look good and red circle the ones that look funny.

the ceiling tile seems to match color wise well.  Throw another one on and post a screen and we can tell ya what we think.  Im assuming in your tileset you are a little more limited on options to pick from.

I think the title screen is going to be badass just keep playing. I think the best you can do is multiple verzions different color schemes etc.

@oz: The issue now with the logo might be that it is weighted all on one side because of the decal. Your eyes are dragged right to it and the aren't pulled along the word because the decal is the most interesting part. Might be interesting to see how it looks with the decal in the centre to try to combat that. (and then put some sort of white border around the words and then around the whole thing)

I can't really comment on colour stuff right now because I'm stuck at work on a lame screen for viewing, but it might be interesting to see the logo with another shape.

@sharm: thanks for your input! I will take your advice for the trees as soon as I get home :)

Just beat the last of us 2 last night and starting jedi: fallen order right now, both use unreal engine & when I say i knew 80% of jedi's buttons right away because they were the same buttons as TLOU2 its ridiculous, even the same narrow hallway crawl and barely-made-it jump they do. Unreal Engine is just big budget RPG Maker the way they make games nearly identical at its core lol.
