I'm not sure if his is custom made. But you can check out yanflys messaging system, it does that.

Nice, but just one thing.

If I have understood correctly, this is an inside view, and even if the ceiling has collapsed a bit, it's not totally open to the sky.  It is, therefore, highly unlikely that you are going to get flowering plants growing in that environment, so those pink flowers detract from the atmosphere you have been creating.

I started working a small project again after a long pause and i would like some comments on my first new steps in mapping.

Especially wether i am cluttering the maps to much or not enough. Since the focus in this game is on finishing it i want to minimize the workload and therefore only use rtp-resources.

So here are two maps, viewed from the editor.

It's a pet peeve of mine, and I know that not everyone thinks it's important, but there is, imo, an issue with the edges of your maps.  It's clearer in the second one.  If you look at the map south of your path on the left hand edge, or on the bottom edge either side of the path, the player can walk through to the edge ... and then what?  There is no transfer event, so they are just banging up against some invisible block, unable to go anywhere.  I prefer to see edges blocked off so that the player can't go there, using trees, logs, whatever.

I'm aware of that and have no problem with these invisible walls. At least for this game because i have no idea how to block all access to the edges without either putting a lot of objects (trees, logs etc..) down or artificaly introducing a natural barrier. This road follows the river from the entrance-forest (left of the first map) to the town and beyond through an otherwise open field.

And i don't want to change the general layout of all maps because of this issue. (I use many interconnected maps like these two instead of a world map)

If this is the only complaint about the map i'm happy =).

Your roads are too perfect. Break them up a little bit. Dirt roads do not stay that perfect, ever. Have flowers growing on to it, grass, break it up. Stuff like that.

B. Ultimus: I really love those edits! The color palette definitely read ominous ruin, though I do agree with ksjp17 about the pink flowers. I think Celianna's got some nice tree roots in her parallax tiles that might work a little better in this scenario.

MagicMagor: I agree with what the others have said, though I also think that your maps a tad too big. Not that the map's empty decoration-wise, but there's what, one treasure chest off the path and then another on a cliff that you can't even get to on this big map. So really I think you could condense most of your map into a smaller one without losing much.

Hey guys! I haven't posted in this screenshot thread yet, so here's some:

The interior of the protagonist's house.

And then the exterior of that same house. This whole map's not quite done yet, as you can see by the emptiness on the outer banks of the stream.
Mostly I want to know what you guys think of the overall spacing of these maps so far. Are they too cluttered? Too empty? Just right? I've been staring at them a bit too long and I can't quite tell anymore.  :headshake:

I absolutely love those maps. I can't think of anything wrong with them to be honest.

Are those your own tile edits?

Nice maps.  I particularly like the 2 bedrooms.  The main room, however, I think could do with a bit more in it.  What do they sit on unless they are at the table?  It seems just a bit austere, no fireplace, nowhere that feels sort of 'homely'.

Bloodmorphed: Thanks! And yes, most of those are my edits.  :) There are several by Liberty/Ksi thrown in there, too, though.

ksjp17: I definitely see what you mean. I went ahead and tweaked the map a bit to make the main room look more lived-in. Though, I'm hesitant to add in a whole second sitting area since then the player really won't have room to move around, and I'd rather not increase the size of the house. But does this look any better?

So I just recolored a floor tile. Actually I just did a quick edit. I made a layer of black and turned down the opacity. It turned out okay though, which is weird. Lol. But here it is in practice.

@Hollow: Very cute maps! I love the sizes. Compact and functional. if I were to suggest anything it would be to decorate the little spots of land surrounding your main island; they seem very bare in comparison.

@Bloodmorphed: Nice work~ That really adds nice depth.

@Shana: What a useful powerup~ Also--Ulrika works at the shop. This pleases me haha

@Zoltor: Thanks for the mapping, and dang I haven't played Golden Sun for coming up to 3 years now xD But yeah, I do plan to have puzzles and the message system is Yanfly's which allows for the extra text box above the usual one displaying their name. The actual window skin itself is one that I found awhile ago, but the faces/ busts are all custom~

Here's another one of the scene after. Busts, for busts sake!~

Is that Attack on Titan? Cause those enemies are really super duper ultra large compared to the character sprites

Just beat the last of us 2 last night and starting jedi: fallen order right now, both use unreal engine & when I say i knew 80% of jedi's buttons right away because they were the same buttons as TLOU2 its ridiculous, even the same narrow hallway crawl and barely-made-it jump they do. Unreal Engine is just big budget RPG Maker the way they make games nearly identical at its core lol.
