Hmmm yeah I guess it shows more rather than it would do with a side view... Would the difference look that big side view? (FF1-6 managed to get away with it xD)

IDK if it the view will matter... it's just really large... XD...

I never playerd 1-5, but I played 6... and the enemies there aren't as big as that... they're still almost just as big as the character sprites (for the human enemies at least)...

Hmmm, so go with a full front view without the visual battlers then?

that will probably look better... or maybe make your own full-sized battlers for the actors? you seem to be good at art anyways, then you can probably do it... Something like what the RMXP game, Last Scenario did... It has back-view Actor battlers...

Hmmm, interesting... though I do have a couple boss battlers that pretty much take up the whole screen :/ Though maybe I COULD do something like Phantasy Star 2 and 4 with them appearing when they do actions/ get hit/ targeted. Though that's A LOOOOT of drawing...

Here are some screenies of my current project using the DS+ Pack with some custom tiles and I'm utilizing the actual Ace tracks that were redone for the DS from RPG Tsukuru DS+ since they are modern.  Anyway, here are the screenies:

Don't mind the game title. It's a place holder (plus I had a different idea when I first started out) until I figure out what I want to call it. I'm also using a mix of tile mapping and parallax mapping, the latter of which is mostly used for the home interiors for better placement of furniture. Feedback is appreciated!

@DJDarkx & Hollow - I am really liking those maps, the DS resources really do look nice and I like how you've both used them.

@Chaos Avian - I agree she looks like she's about to just step on the heroes and walk away :D But definitely love custom stuff, looking nice!

Here's a screenie from me trying a different look for indoor maps:

Contains a mix of RTP items and my own graphics

Alright, took a short break from working on Montblanc's exterior to flesh out the interior of the DuGalle residence, home of Alex's best friend, Conrad. They're a little lower class than the Girards, but not quite lower class. More upper working class (well enough off to afford sending Conrad to the fairly prestigious Ryukendo School in town).

And with lighting effects applied...

@Allerka

I think you've caught the right feel for that class of person, except for one thing - the silver gilt on the dining chairs stands out and clashes horribly with the other tiles.  Could you recolour just the frames?  The red is great, and the shape is fine, it's just the silver that is wrong, imo

@chaos avian: I was going to suggest phantasy star style, but I see you already had that thought! It will be a bit of work but I think it will be worth it because I agree that the sprites seem jarring with the size difference.

I highly suggest moving the table to in front of the fire, maybe have the front wall overlapping it so it looks like it's taking up space behind those two blocks of wall (thus allowing for some room for the hero to walk past). It gives you free range to the kitchen area and would look more balanced.

I darkened up the white on the chairs to more of a dark iron look, how's this?

OK, it took me a little bit to figure out what you meant, but is this it?

@Allerka - one thing I see is that's a bit odd to me is the rugs going into the doors.  I realize you are trying to put something there so that the player realizes there is an entrance.  But it's a bit unusual to me.

Are you referring to the main entrance or the left/right doorways? I got the idea from someone else in this thread, I believe it was. Seemed like a good way to indicate it, not sure what else I could do.

I find the main entrance weird, but the others fine... I can't pinpoint why...

Yes, the side-to-side doors.  Like I said, I understand why, but in most houses, if you put a rug under a door the door will not shut easily.  But this isn't reality is it?  ;)   So do as you wish.  Because really, I always find the critiques in this thread kind of funny when they are so nit picky "in real life" - well, in real life you don't staff wielding magicians walking into houses taking things before going off to blast three-eyed monsters, you know?

@Allerka: That looks much better with the table.

Here:

I did the same thing with one of my games, but the mat comes out too far, imo. (The black sqaures are for lining it up easily in a tileset.)

Ends up looking like this^

Just beat the last of us 2 last night and starting jedi: fallen order right now, both use unreal engine & when I say i knew 80% of jedi's buttons right away because they were the same buttons as TLOU2 its ridiculous, even the same narrow hallway crawl and barely-made-it jump they do. Unreal Engine is just big budget RPG Maker the way they make games nearly identical at its core lol.
