I did use the shift technique but it was really hard to work with, with all the water. But I hope it isn't too major, unless it is then I might aswell start a new.

Eh? shift map using the middle cliff parts the connections between the different layers of your cliffs... Ksi's video actually shows how to do it

Should probably drop something here...

(These are both cameos~ I doubt anyone will get the first, but the second shouldn't be too hard for some to figure out... ^.^ )

Usain, remove the edges where the mountains meet each other, this will provide the appropriate depth. (Example, bottom left with the cabbage, remove the rocky edge. See my example below.)

Notice how my cliffs have no edge where one bottom touches the next?

Also, I see several areas missing shadows.

It would also look a little better if you extended each of your stairs up by one tile, and put edges around them.

Your floating cliff. I am not sure how much you can see in game, but the top section needs the edges removed to butt up against the wall also. This will make it look more natural. Although I know you don't care much about it. If you just brought the mountain tile of the floating area down all the way to the bottom and let it stick out even 1 tile below, it would flow better.

@Ksi:- Sorry, I don't get either reference ;_; Then again I'm dumb as soup sometimes so it's probably just me. I love the tint on those screens though, nice and moody, but still soft and snowy. The mapping is really great too!

Testing out the PDA overlay and 8-bit graphics for my hacking micro-games.

You all are probably mad at me i have not been posting maps!  Here is my mine town i had to make some corrections & edits (sometimes parallaxing you don't see errors till you run demo in game).  So made tree's longer, fixed cliff errors, removed some confusing pieces from mine apparatus, added shadows to buildings.

doors obviously have not been added yet.

@stridah:

I love the map ^^ I really like the style and atmosphere.

Two things I noticed: the background picture is a little bit to "clean" and blank for my taste. Something with more texture and maybe clouds etc. would be better, I think. But maybe it is just a placeholder.

And will you add shadows to the cliffs, too?

Lastly, one question, do you want the light to appear from the bottom left? Because thats what it looks right now. I would take about 16-32px from the top house shadows off, if you want it more to look like the light is coming from the top left corner.

@candacis, yeah all the background images are just place holders, I really want to get an actual artist to draw my parallaxes. yeah it is coming from the top left, ok I will make that edit...Shadows are a big struggle for me, I have a lot of trouble visualizing them.  I did a version with much larger shadows (turned whole building black moved it to appropriate angle, but it just looked weird to me.

Yeah, shadows are not easy (and sometimes downright insane with this top/front view the rpg maker has), but you need them, especially if you have cliffs. It is a really important tool to show heights; and the map will get so much more depth from it.

But good luck with shadows for round cliffs. Those are not easy, I'll tell you. Struggling with those right now.

Completely forgot about this thread.  Parallax mapping has proven to be somewhat an unexpected challenge.

As I keep doing it, my skills keep improving, and the style I paint in starts shifting.

Anyway, that said, I am enjoying myself.  Here's my latest endeavor for the game I'm working on.

(spoiler because somewhat large in-game screenshot)

Hey guys, I'm new here.

I'm wondering what's wrong with my mapping. I'm sure there's something wrong but I don't know what. Can someone please give me feedback? Thanks.

@Cashmere - the way that the columns and the outer wall of the buildings coincide looks so weird... normally, the columns would touch the ground lower than where the wall does

@Cashmere - One thing that jumps out to me is that in your first map, the stone tile you are using is a floor tile so it throws the perspective off for me a bit. However, I think you make it work on the one building on the left where the braces on are on both sides. I think if you made that uniform on all the buildings, it would really help.  Also on buildings where you have to use shift-click or use tiles from B-E, you need to be sure to go back and add shadows to the right sides. In the first one, shadows falling onto the crates and things on the right will help add depth. Same thing in the second map where you have the sections of differing heights. Use the shadow pen to add shadows to the right sides and it will do wonders. On the last map, I find it odd that there is a cave like that in the middle of the road. Maybe it's supposed to be a tunnel? It just looks really odd to me. Really, overall not bad though. Adding: you posted your interior maps while I'm typing this, I'll have to come back to those. ;)

Okay, I've been playing around with the new western pack just for fun. Here is a saloon scene where things got out of hand and Sheriff Ralph has had to step in. Now, I know, it is ridiculously bare. I was sticking just to the western pack and perhaps some RTP if needed, to see what it was capable of. In my opinion, it's a great start but for my tastes, it's going to need a lot of tweaking. For example, the red stage curtain needs to be brought down a smidge so it's not overlapping the roof tile. The bar tile needs to be edited so that I can make that left piece longer.  I would need to make some tables with clutter on them - drinks, cards, etc. To me, the round tables scream "saloon" but there's no way to put clutter on them as they are. My overall opinion is that it's a nice starter set but needs some additions to make it truly shine.

@cash I think the blur is from photobucket.

@logan any way you can get some objects on tables and stuff, it looks a bit empty. I think you should just pop a shadow on side of stage too. I have no experience with western set so im not sure if it has cups plates, etc.

Our latest feature is an interview with... me?!

People4_2 (Capelet off and on) added!

Just beat the last of us 2 last night and starting jedi: fallen order right now, both use unreal engine & when I say i knew 80% of jedi's buttons right away because they were the same buttons as TLOU2 its ridiculous, even the same narrow hallway crawl and barely-made-it jump they do. Unreal Engine is just big budget RPG Maker the way they make games nearly identical at its core lol.
Can someone recommend some fun story-heavy RPGs to me? Coming up with good gameplay is a nightmare! I was thinking of making some gameplay platforming-based, but that doesn't work well in RPG form*. I also was thinking of removing battles, but that would be too much like OneShot. I don't even know how to make good puzzles!
one bad plugin combo later and one of my followers is moonwalking off the screen on his own... I didn't even more yet on the new map lol.
