@nio

you might like to think of using your shadow pen on the right of the stairs to give it a bit of depth.  At the moment it looks very flat and so somewhat undermines the perspective.

@Cluly: Very very nice! I like a lot the lights.

The only thing is, there is a closet bloking the door in the upper-left room. Is that how you wanted it?

@Cluly: I like your interior design, but I'm completely against mixing resources like that. You've got Mack, Modern Day Tiles and then Rural Farm Tiles - which are two COMPLETELY different styles, and it shows! Why not stick with one style?

Started back on my "mystery" project with Ronin Arts, after a long hiatus due to work.

Working out the particulars with both game-play and sound-production has really slowed down the general progress,

but with a custom semi-action battle system and the use of voices I can't say it isn't worth it looking at the results.

(I know, the hud variable is displaying over the note graphic, but I'm taking care of it soon)

The entire game will be a semi side-scroller, so most maps will follow a similar lay-out, with differences in length - though later game-play section will feature a secondary field (floating platforms, rooftops etc) which you switch between for some added dynamic movement, enemy evasion etc.

Hopefully, I'll be able to set up a project thread and release a playable teaser soon (will be open, since a lot of work has gone into both menus and game-play system in terms of eventing that could be useful to other people on the forum).

I don't think I would have taken notice unless you pointed it out. I'm guessing your eyes are pretty keen to that stuff given that you design tiles yourself.

A reason he might be mixing is that neither of the styles are comprehensive enough to provide the necessary components to his design.

I agree in general though. Most mixing sticks out like a sore thumb.

Ah the trained eye  of Celianna, hehe... Indeed you're right, but to the untrained eye I think you can get away with it now and again. Not every tileset has what you want I find. It was also some of my first mapping attempts I would probably modify or draw/paint my own now if I needed them. It's also hard to choose a set to stick with, they're all so good!

@Shuji Yes, they baracaded the door ... Zombie's etc :)

@hian your project looks pretty cool :) the HUD is nice as well.

I wouldn't necessarily say people will notice you mixing tiles, unless they are very very knowledgeable about all the different tiles but I don't think there's anything wrong with mixing. You may need to do so if you are lacking tiles from one set that another has plus a gamer is not going to notice those things lol unless the 2 styles are extremely different.

I like the maps and HUD.  One thing I was wondering - how does it work with a non-qwerty keyboard?  Will the player know to press something different if their z (or whatever) is in a different location?  Perhaps not really a question for a screenshot thread, but I thought I'd mention it as it is niggling away at my mind.

Presumably they'd press the keys in the corresponding place on their keyboard. Is there really such a thing as non qwerty keyboard anyways? I work on a Japanese computer. It's has the exact same basic layout as European or American computers, even if the various "$%#& etc buttons are not.

If there really is an issue I might try to address it later, but seeing as this game will only be in English and Japanese anyway, I'm not sure how much time I would spend worrying about an issue that most (if not all) people who end up playing it won't notice.

Thank you for the praise and feedback in any case!

I think that German and French keyboards have a different layout.  But as you say, it may not be a problem.

Just googled it. French and German have minor alterations. For some reason the X key is in the same position though,

so it should be quite easy to adjust by simply keeping track of the X key (which is the back/cancel key). If they set their keyboard to English, that might help. The default layout scheme for RPGmaker on my computer has all the relevant buttons mapped to the right of the keyboard QW being L and R on a controller, ASDZX being the rest(which also happens to be the default mapping I use for all emulators as well). I don't know if these is different for people using RPGmaker in other countries though.

Anyways, enough off-topic. Sorry@thread.

@metereo reminds me of pokemon.

@hian I have been trying to get more into using rpg maker for scrolling games as well, it's an interesting experience :)

I have a question, is posting screenshots from non rpg maker games allowed? I would figure not but thought I would ask, I use a few different engines depending on what kind of game I want to make.

@Matereo - Looking good, is the umbrella custom? One thing I don't like is the parallaxed fade between the grass and sand, it really looks odd when everything else is tileset based.

@DMIgames: thank you, that's the style I'm aiming for :D

@esbie: yes, is the umbrella from the sengoku tiles (ds plus), recolored and edited with the table. I didn't know how to do that change, what do you suggest me ?

This is an RPG Maker forum, not an Indie game maker forums, so that is a NO. Also, you cannot use RPG Maker resources outside of RPG Maker - just in case you were doing this.

I also removed the link in your post, as it was blatant advertizing.

I agree with this. With good lightning effects and maybe a recolor here and there (with permission first as always), I think the different tilesets blend in just fine. Some good mapping going here, looking forward to a more extended map to see your skills!

Just beat the last of us 2 last night and starting jedi: fallen order right now, both use unreal engine & when I say i knew 80% of jedi's buttons right away because they were the same buttons as TLOU2 its ridiculous, even the same narrow hallway crawl and barely-made-it jump they do. Unreal Engine is just big budget RPG Maker the way they make games nearly identical at its core lol.
