For those who remember this screenshot, here is an updated version to act as a "wallpaper" while I show you the bust of the shop keeper.

These "facesets" are vector-art (can be zoomed at will) and I apply the same "pixel painting" technics you can see in regular 2D/3D maps as a final render. ("pixel impasto", the discreet impressionist finish)

Menus of the game or even the dialogue-box have this pixel impasto thing on it, for a coherent whole.

Thank you, yes there is like 3 or 4. The most recent was just a little "animated map" for Halloween:

(still have little stuff to fix)

But a short technical teaser from an earlier dev-stage (pre-prod) is probably more comprehensive:

There is also some draft/making-of on the channel but I'm still preparing the next real videos, probably a nice little one for arround christmas while waiting for the big one I need to make for the upcoming greenlight/KS campaigns.

(which will be more like a presentation)

It looks like you have done a lot of work on it, looks great, personally the mixture of 2D and 3D in the same scene really throws me off but you do have lots of people who think otherwise :) I am sure your campaigns will do well, let me know when they are up.

I don't know if my screen setting is too dark but it's pretty hard to see your screenshot. (the white background of this forum doesn't help, too bad it's not gray like every photoshop-like tools nowadays)
Beside that, it seems that you install a pretty good ambience and I think in a "full screen" context, it's going to work pretty well.

Do you think it's about the camera angle seamless changes (in the game context I do it sparingly and wisely, and of course the 3D looks more like a 2D painting with depth now if we forget about this imature old teaser), or is it more about the sprites on maps with 3D depth? (something we see in games like Grandia or the Disgaea saga)

I am sure your campaigns will do well, let me know when they are up.
Yes I'll do a topic and some communications when I'll get to something interesting enough. Hopefully you'll see that "in the bigger picture" my choices are quite pertinent and well studied. It's hard to show that with (out of context) scattered pictures.

Context is everything (like your screenshot probably perfect in fullscreen but hard to read in the middle of a white page). I'm still afraid about the KS campaign that people will not get this "context thing" so that's why I need to do a really great video and not just those isolated stuff where people don't fully get where I'm going.
Unfortunately, even the best possible video won't transcribe the real game context when you gradually see from the begining that the camera is going to greatly improve the story-telling and immersion.

@DMIgames: I think, it is very dark, I would make it lighter. I'm not so sure what that thing between the two lantern is. I like your sprite. What style is this?

@kayser .. About the mixture, it's the sprites on map with 3D depth mixed in with the 2D map sprites sprites. Let's say the trees in your halloween video and the 3D object with the 2D flames (at least looks like 2D). The movie scenes look great and are fine because you can tell it's in a somewhat 3D environment. If you would like I can make you a campaign video when the time comes, I am pretty good with video editing :)

@Candacis... About the recent screenshot above, the darkness is intentional as you won't be exploring much here. The thing in between the lanterns is a grave stone for Shyla's mother.

@Ultimacj .. binding of what? 0_o

Ok I understand, it's true I can still improve this particular map, I was quite late (about the Halloween day) so I had to rush some stuff like those trees, it's a little "scale problem" TBH (same with the charset), because in the game everything is 2D/3D at the same time, here is a picture of a special plant (used to repulse Korumons so you don't get encounters on maps with those plants) and you'll better see I do most GFX both in 3D/2D to the point it doesn't matter "how it's made" technically since the 2 are kind of a big whole.

(the goal is to erase the difference between 2D/3D into something singular while I can still take advantage of 3D sometime to change camera angle and get different ambiences when needed)

Thank you ;) That was actually part of my job in 2013 (and half of 2012) to warm my company up and save money to go back on Koruldia in 2014 (running out of my saving already so... Kickstarter is the only hope to work on the game more than super-sparingly).

I did that for big names, so don't worry the video will be good, at least I'll do everything I can for it.

Our latest feature is an interview with... me?!

People4_2 (Capelet off and on) added!

Just beat the last of us 2 last night and starting jedi: fallen order right now, both use unreal engine & when I say i knew 80% of jedi's buttons right away because they were the same buttons as TLOU2 its ridiculous, even the same narrow hallway crawl and barely-made-it jump they do. Unreal Engine is just big budget RPG Maker the way they make games nearly identical at its core lol.
Can someone recommend some fun story-heavy RPGs to me? Coming up with good gameplay is a nightmare! I was thinking of making some gameplay platforming-based, but that doesn't work well in RPG form*. I also was thinking of removing battles, but that would be too much like OneShot. I don't even know how to make good puzzles!
one bad plugin combo later and one of my followers is moonwalking off the screen on his own... I didn't even more yet on the new map lol.
