@Fear616 - While visually impressive the mapping itself is really bland, have you considered adding variation in height and adding indentations to the wall to make the mapping a little more interesting. Maybe bring the walls in a lot further and use the negative space to really make the shrine/map features stand out, they just get lost in the graphical clutter right now.

@Cel - Probably my favourite resources of yours so far, those wall tiles are really cool. It might just be me but the big x floor tiles look a little to vertical and throw off the perspective a little.

People seemed to like it, so here's the rest of the little homestead I mapped out using Crazy Leen's tiles.

Presenting Tronjheim!

(created in 1.3 hours)

A small little town that houses only a few inhabitants within the village's fences, and accomodating only one guardsman! Inn, two villager homes and a chieftain's home are shown. Meant to be the centerpoint to three field maps (to the south, east and north, the east and north being farmland with a few houses and the south being a pathway to another area) that make up the Tronjheim region. I am attempting to make these maps without the use of parallax mapping.

@Iron Croc:

yes, it's parallaxed. ^^ I choose green light effects because the theme of this ruin is earth and forest, but I also think, it looks a bit... dangerous. =)

@ ... Bear?

I don't really understand what you mean with "adding some variation in height". and with the wall. =(

I considered this ruin is a flat building, only one floor, so there are no height variations, if you mean that. otherwise: share your wisdom with me!! =)

@Bear:

Really nice! You know how to use Leens Tiles ;) Will there be an actual game with those maps?

@NathanW:

Nice little village you have created with the RTP. For improving I would try to break the "quarter structure" and give the village an other outer shape, if you know what I mean. The variations of trees and so on looks good, but in the upper left corner there are a bit to many trees form the same type in my opinion. But that's nothing tragic ;)

Bear(?!): That place has some srsly gd character :D

I really must make a battle-free game after BR:HD so I can try out all of these awesome tilesets without having to worry about battle balancing on giant maps later xD

Does anyone know if there's a tile for this?

My first large map in RMVX Ace. :3 I recently shifted from RPG Maker XP although I still prefer it, but for some reason, people do use VX Ace a lot more nowadays. :v Any opinions would be greatly appreciated. :D

@Bear: I really like that, it reminds me of Super Mario Bros 3, Iced Land.

@Nile: The bridge toward the bottom seems to extend too far out into the grass, make it look strange. See f you can shorten that up or change the landscape a tad.  Then again, that could just be my preferences.

Might be a nice idea to break up the wall of trees a little. Make little nooks in them so that they're both more interesting to look at but also can have small places for treasure/exploration. I also suggest using the water tiles correctly. That is, the tiles you've currently used are underwater cliff tiles. The water tile next to that one provides the bottom of the water. For example, the water in the middle of the picture below.

This is another updated Sample map.

@MissNile

At first I misread your post and thought that was your first map ever and I thought "Splendid job! You're a natural."

But I re-read that you moved to Ace and have done this before on XP haha, still very good.

Here's a screenshot of my current project though I just started on it a few weeks back so it's far from done (for example the ground is very flat and blocky)

Thoughts are welcomed and you can find out more about the game by clicking my siggy!

@Ksi and IronCroc: Thanks for the advice. :D Like I said, I am new to the mapping technique of this engine so yup, I am not surprised at my silly mistakes. XD Thanks again. ^^

@Dream3r: Thank you for your kind comment, first of all. :D Secondly, I like your screenshot, although perhaps it could use more trees? It could be just my personal preference though. I have a thing for trees. :D Perhaps also more things on the ground? Like those little snow plants. :D

Other  than that, I really like both the heroine's and deer's sprites. I mean, really like them. :D Good luck with your project. ^^

Felt like uploading something...

It's a tropical island! I was aiming for a very warm and tropical atmosphere, vibrant colors and a bit clutter-ish. I hope it shows.

(some people may not like that lightning effect though)

Aww, this is such a beautiful map. I really like the atmosphere it gives and yup, you definitely were able to give the warm and tropical feeling nicely. :3

My only pick is the clouds' graphic. It's the only thing spoiling the overall atmosphere. I think it needs to be blurred a little so that it blends in with the rest of the map. Other than that, good work. :D

Thanks! I know what you mean (the clouds are more sharp and pixelated than the rest of the map). I'll see if I can find something more smooth to replace the clouds with.

@ksi: that's a beautiful example of a ruined town. You can clearly see how the destruction progressed, and it sends a clear message of despair

I'm wondering why you have polluted water, and clean water. I would think it would be all polluted

@luiishu: I love the oasis. Looks like it was done mostly with RTP tiles, except that big bush. How did you get the cloud effect?

I looked hard, but couldn't find anything to critique or ask about. so good job

I used Multiple Fogs by Woratana and a simple picture for the clouds. There should be a demo somewhere on the web. It's for VX, so it may seem a bit old.

Wanted to show you a slightly alternate version of the sample screenshot I did for my ReStaff tiles. Just added some animals and sunbeams. Except the owl on the fence all mapped in editor.

Hello!

A little glimpse of what I am working on currently:

A mysterious door... with 2 old keys to open it.

This is a map I want to put in my video-presentation so there is some interesting visual stuff here, for example Juna will jump in the water and disturb its shallow surface pretty nicely. (ripples with refraction/reflection/distortion, and as usual some cool dynamic light effects)

@luiishu: For the clouds if you have photoshop there's a render cloud feature.  You can play with that and upload it to the game.  Actually I believe that's what Woratana recommends.  Not sure if gimp has that feature but you can get PS Creative Cloud for about $10 a month now so it's not super expensive.

@MissNile: You and I are on the same track.  I actually plan to add a LOT more, different textures for the ground, varying depths of snow, some plant life (though the temperatures kill most of the small ones or bury them below the snow...trying to be realistic I've put a dozen hours into research alone) but yeah there definitely needs to be more between the trees.

Also here's some experimentation with water tiles:

Goal was to make them seamless so you couldn't tell they were connected.  There's 12 shown above with some fish under the surface

He mad, but he cute :kaopride:

Our latest feature is an interview with... me?!

People4_2 (Capelet off and on) added!

Just beat the last of us 2 last night and starting jedi: fallen order right now, both use unreal engine & when I say i knew 80% of jedi's buttons right away because they were the same buttons as TLOU2 its ridiculous, even the same narrow hallway crawl and barely-made-it jump they do. Unreal Engine is just big budget RPG Maker the way they make games nearly identical at its core lol.
Can someone recommend some fun story-heavy RPGs to me? Coming up with good gameplay is a nightmare! I was thinking of making some gameplay platforming-based, but that doesn't work well in RPG form*. I also was thinking of removing battles, but that would be too much like OneShot. I don't even know how to make good puzzles!
