Never really a fan of the sci-fi genre, but a good map is always a good map.

@Anorak The design doesn't appear to have any big flaws, so that's a positive! The atmosphere appears to be good, too.

2 things:

  • I only noticed that the small "bridge" was over water/sewage, because of the tube on the wall. Perhaps make the water/sewage a bit more apparent?
  • Maybe bring up the blues, to give a more desaturated effect? It goes well on dark places.

Boldpaste2: I would desaturate the ground a bit more; it's really bright and bold compared to the trees.

@Dream3r:

The white ground looks very weird to me. I can't really make out that blue texture. Only when I look at it very closely and squint my eyes. To me it looks more like a white paper background. I would up the contrast and make that texture slightly more visible.

The trees don't have shadows at all on the ground, which lets them look very two-dimensional. In addition to the shadow on the ground, they need need need shading on the right side. (If your light comes from the top left).  Even with the snow on them, a bit darker shade on the right half of the tree would give them more dimension. Giving the bottom of the treetrunk some little specks of snow, would also be worthwile trying out. The trees don't look like they are grounded in the snow at all.

Same goes for the bushes. Would be nice to see some snow specks at the bottom and also some little shadow throw. At least the top berry bushes could have that.

What I like is the look of the sprite. She looks lovely. And a bit annoyed :D   The snowfall is also very nice.

You could also add some little tufts of gras poking out of the snow or something else. I'm missing the variety. But I don't know which graphics you have available.

Candacis  Thank you for the very insightful response.  You've noticed everything that has been bothering me.  Though (and I'd hate to make it seem like your advice isn't wanted, it is) I said a few screenshots back all the art is either placeholder or in a very early stage.  I don't create the assets, I have a few artist that do.  The total budget including all the details you mentioned plus loads more is just under $3,000.  What you're seeing now is what has been done after $120 has been spent so it's still very early.

I will be prettying everything up with depths of snow, textures, shading, lighting, weather, and all sorts of decor near the end of development.  Currently my goal is to get as much of the event work and scripting done as I can.  I'm just making due with the art.  Trust me it bothers me too but in order to progress at the rate I wanted I quit my day job to focus on this full time and that means I have no money.  As soon as I start working a day job again I'll be putting everything I can into the art.

So thank you so very much and I hope I can make you happy with the finished product but for now you and I will have to deal with paper looking ground and plants that don't move in the wind or snow prints as you walk through the snow.

Also that is Val's old sprite from another project I was unable to finish (too expensive) Val will be updated eventually to look like this (but with an 8 frame, 8 directional walking and running sprite)

PS:  I don't want to spam here (so just check the siggy for the link) but I would appreciate if anyone could give me a moment of their time and check my ******* page and offer feedback.  Apparently I'm not very good at asking for money, what does the page need to make it seem worth supporting?

Thank you all and keep up the good work!

My fourth game is going to be in RPG Maker VX Ace after years of working only with XP . . . :3 Everything is a work-in-progress but any opinions will be greatly appreciated. :D
She's supposed to be a fire sorceress living in one of those peaceful villages, hence the weird house furniture. :)

I can't believe people missed King Sango's screens. Those look fantastic. Great use of colour, interesting style, nice and varied yet basic mapping. Love it. Very unique.

I've been trying to improve my mapping of late, and while making this dungeon I just can't figure out how to make this

cliff edge look... Like an actually cliff edge it just looks horrible to me.

(This is a very rough draft of the dungeon aka the walls, it won't look this bad in the end.)

(Maybe.)

Edit: This should probably be in the Game and Map Screenshots thread, but idk.

You will only get the effect of a cliff edge if you use a cliff tile.  The tile you have chosen where the man is standing is an ordinary ground tile, not a cliff tile and nothing you can do to it will make it look like one.

Migrating combat UI away from text-based context menus into icon-based hierarchical hotbars. Haven't finished porting everything over, but it's much nicer to interact with than before, I think.

ArcaneEli - Not really sure why the waterfall's down there, as I'm assuming this is an underground cave, but nevertheless, it'd look a bit better if there was a pond flowing from it? Also, maybe a reddish tint would look nice.

Kaelan - All of your screenshots for Red Hand of Doom have looked very impressive and it's a wonder how you've done all of this in RPG Maker! I played your demo a while back and it was very interesting and visually impressive. The new UI looks great, by the way.  :rock-right:

Seeking opinion if there anything need to improve this map.

As you can see it is a guild house this is where the character can seek non-story quests and request for the whole game. (Well there is also some people you can talk to outside to initiate a quest or an request.

I also use modify tile like the sign tile what I made it bigger and added some extra stuff on it.

The second floor varies between cities/houses so I didn't show it to all of you.

Hey Jomar. I like the content. But everything's way too spaced out. You don't need all that room unless you're planning to fill it up with about 30 NPCs and make it look like a convention or a party. But even then, you can condense it. Make everything more cramped, then you can see everything at once when you're exploring. More visual interest and less walking distance.

Our latest feature is an interview with... me?!

People4_2 (Capelet off and on) added!

Just beat the last of us 2 last night and starting jedi: fallen order right now, both use unreal engine & when I say i knew 80% of jedi's buttons right away because they were the same buttons as TLOU2 its ridiculous, even the same narrow hallway crawl and barely-made-it jump they do. Unreal Engine is just big budget RPG Maker the way they make games nearly identical at its core lol.
