Hello!

Slowly (and by slowly I mean 80+ hours of work so far) I have started on my first true RPG MV program. The world map is from about a 80% complete picture overall; still have to add towns and fine tune a lot of details. The town is the started village.

@flashbax - I really like the world map general layout and have zero complaints about it.

The town map has to much green imo.

Perhaps try rocks and flowers (maybe even some small gardens by that training field corners instead of just trees) to stop it from all running together and make it more visually interesting.

The are with the posts will eventually be an open market for vendors; but It does need something to break up the green. @AwesomeCool I'll play around with it a bit tomorrow and see what I can do. The river (if anyone is wondering) is supposed to be that sharp of an angle; in the story you find out it has been irrigated to better serve the town.

@flashbax The world map looks awesome- it must have taken a long time! My advice for the town map would be, for around the edge of the town, to add some weeds and vary the trees a little in tree type and position, as in trees normally don't grow in straight lines like that (unless planted there by people, of course).

in town I plan on keeping the trees the same, but out of town you're right. didn't think about that at all.

Ok last picture for a while; I have TONS of work I want to get done today between working on the game and running my store. Took some advice, changed up a few things; need to get work done on interiors and other maps.

Ignoring the plain-ness of beyond the walls, I always think trees fill up space in towns. I hate towns...

I wish the tiles came with benches, fountains, street lamps, etc.

@StrawberrySmilesAren't those lorestroms/hyptosis tiles? I'm pretty sure they did come with street lamps and fountains. You could also be more generous with barrels, boxes and vases to fill empty space, and you could always make the map smaller so you don't have so much empty space to fill....

@AwesomeCoolOn one hand you criticize the map for being too brown while in the other you also criticize the spots of color for being too bright. I'm not sure what to make of your advice. For now' I've tried to desaturate the flowers and vines. In the case of the flowers is really noticeable in the red and pink ones but barely so in the blue and purple ones, but those were subdued to begin with. About changing the gorund colors, that seems a little bit drastic, and maybe above my skill, I can't promise you I'll try it, but I'll definitely consider it. Thanks for the feedback!

Mapping and trying differents lighting models for a same scenario. (Dawn and Nightfall)

I really like both styles. To me, the one on the right seems like afternoon sun, while the one on the left seems more like morning or evening sunlight. :D

Is there a parallax lighting tutorial you used/recommend, if you don't mind me asking?

Thanks, Grem. In truth I used a technique of personal lighting, something which I learned with the practice. Unfortunately I am not aware of any tutorial. But I believe that any one with experience with the Photoshop can do something like that. of course, with a bit of practice. this is the most important thing to get a good results.

*sigh* If only my laptop didn't hate Photoshop so much... oh well. GIMP works fine for me, but I feel so left out whenever I see tutorials on sprites or lighting or whatever, because EVERYONE uses Photoshop. I can't, because every time I use it, my laptop BSs on me. That, and I'm very rusty on my Photoshop skills anyway that I look at the interface and wonder "Wait... what does this do again?"

I've been told I might have over used the dead tree sprite, any ideas on how to liven things up?

Sorry. :p

I'll take the chance to post a few more pics. The place is supposed to be a forest whitered by a drought.

I can do forest maps all day long, but creating towns is my arch nemesis. Although, I think I maybe onto something here.
