@Strashiner: The map is also lacking contrast, I feel!  Atm it's all sort of the same shade of red, and this muddies the map together to the point where I'm not really sure what I'm looking at and have to squint.  One of my personal pieces of criteria for a game map is that it is immediately readable and easy to figure out what everything is (i.e. that is a tree towering over a road with a sign in front of the bridge over a river).

The pole for the lamps (?) on the corners blend in too much with the ground. I'd make them less dull so that they appear shinier than the ground which should help make them more metallic.

@Sated: Thanks for the advice! I tried to make the lamps more visible.

*Please don't mind the bad grammar, this is again just a test build*

This is the Library where the game pretty much starts from this point. This is my first time every attempting to do parallax which actually wasn't as hard in MV as it was for me to try and learn in Ace. that being said hopefully this was a good start as now that I am starting to feel comfortable with the idea of using photoshop and doing parallax I think i might continue to do all my maps and such in that fasion. Any pointers or tips would be much appreciated as I mentioned before this was a first time effort and i know it was not a rather complex effort at that.

The only thing not shown in the image that will be in the actual game is a NPC, in the storyline of the game i do play to attempt to have to empty bookselves become filled or start to beomce filled as the story progresses.

Actors can walk between the chair and table, the chair backs do properly slow the actor behind them in-between the table and chairs, same as the chandelier it is displayed above the Actors properly. Idk what else if anything I'm missing.

Thank you for your interest.

Are those different types of tilesets? It clashes so much, especially the floor and the carpet :o also the bookcases look like they're very far off the wall.

they are all from two different tilesets, idk how they clash, i dont see it could you be more specific. Also the reason why i have the book cases like that is to show depth between areas where bookcases arn't, ive seen to many times where bookcases almost look as if they are glues to or part of the wall. idk

I think what BCj meant, is that your bookcases aren't lined up against the wall, instead they're pretty far apart from the wall, which wouldn't make sense unless you could also go behind the bookcase.

@Mythologix - The desks look like they are floating because the legs don't have shadows. The windows, chairs, and chandelier "clash" with the rest of the tileset because they are more pixelated than the rug, bookshelves, and wall, as if they have been resized to be bigger. Is it a classroom? If so - teacher desks aren't generally in the middle of the classroom :)

Just picked up MV, and put together a town map as a sort of test. I'm fairly new to both mapping and RPG Maker in general, so I'd love some pointers and feedback I can keep in mind later.

I wanted to make it look like a sort of small starter/tutorial town. Originally had a stone wall, but I decided a fence was probably more appropriate to the overall theme. I'm trying to keep in mind some sort of (imagined) purpose to the things here, although for me that's a bit difficult sometimes (I can have a pretty severe lack of imagination on occasion... XD)

Something I did the weekend.

Video Description:

Things shown in this video:

-Update to the Title Scene that adds Arrow Indication to selection so player will know they can select other options by pressing left or right button.
-Alkaid Town Map with 2 spoiler interior map: Alkaid Inn and Elder's House. Other Interiors not shown.
-Transition Mapping: Includes Door Animations when walked in, Custom Sideview Doors and Stairs.
-Different Message Box Design for displaying different messages such as Common Dialogue, Book Dialogue, System Dialogue.

Note: The entire video seems to be darker than the actual in-game screen, maybe from the recording settings. Sorry if the video sometimes a little jumpy. forgive me for I only recorded this with my 2 year old laptop. I'll try to upload higher framerates in the future.

i havn't learned yet how to do shadowing on photoshop yet, I'm still starting out. As to the book cases the main reason i have them that was is i didn't want to block the top molding around the wall if that makes sense idk. Same with the stain glass windows, their top "mid-marker" is right at the top molding of the wall. No its not a classroom its a library, a small library at that. This was mainly a first draft for me with Parallax but the plan is to end making a Library.

perhaps i should start it over from scratch the library?

thx for the feed back.

@KillaMaaki Looks a bit sparse to me, maybe some clutter, some flowers and stuff?

Interiors look good ( bed colors work well, fwiw)

General outdoor map layout good (I like the building upper left)

I think your pathways overdo the rough edges. ISTM that paths would be generally shoveled, or less squirrely, anyways. It is especially bad at the beginning.

Overall, very good! =]

BENBEN'S TREES ARE AWESOME!
Yep! =]

The way you incorporated the plants around the central trees looks especially good.

@Strashiner : The map looks great. Give an atmospheric "inside-the-dense-forest" feeling. I wish I could add forest like that in my game. The post-apocalyptic theme rarely allows me to have maps with greenery. The only thing bugging me that one of the trees in the middle is leaning a bit. OCD intensified*

@Brillenpinguin : Is it intentional that the entire map look rather, pinkish? Like the style though

Here are some new screenshots we've made. More floating cities. Oh and some of the scenes are not actual in-game scenes. I just put the sprites there to test the map and all. The maps are supposed to give metallic, empty, ancient and cold atmosphere. Thoughts?

Just beat the last of us 2 last night and starting jedi: fallen order right now, both use unreal engine & when I say i knew 80% of jedi's buttons right away because they were the same buttons as TLOU2 its ridiculous, even the same narrow hallway crawl and barely-made-it jump they do. Unreal Engine is just big budget RPG Maker the way they make games nearly identical at its core lol.
