The maps are supposed to give metallic, empty, ancient and cold atmosphere. Thoughts?
Maybe not ancient so much (more like busted up), but metallic, empty, you got it. =]

Are the rocks supposed to look like they are floating? Compare the shadow of the poles to the rocks. =]

Oh! It's not intentional. It's a layering error. Gotta fix it. Thanks for pointing it out. :D

@Somael: The glass dome looks a little flat, gorgeous though :)

Back to working with Pop! Horror City but without the horror. These are early screens of a Film Noir meets Harvest Moon type project I'm currently planning :D

OK Film Noir meets Harvest Moon. This I gotta play. The screens look wonderful, Esby! I've always enjoyed your screenshots and this is no different.

@Somae: That is in fact intentional. The game takes place in a city that has a color code for it's areas. The area displayed is from a red-themed urban area.

Hello all,

Wanted to present some maps I've been working on. There set in modern times, and supposed to link to each other.

Any observations or comments would be much appreciated :D

Thanks!

@Acer2020: a bit too much symmetry, even for man-made stuff. Yes, man-made structures/areas tend to be at least somewhat symmetrical, but not usually 100%. In your maps, even the flowers at the bottom of the second one are symmetrical. Again, while symmetry, to an extent, is a thing in man-made stuff, it often can work against you in tile-mapping because if not done right it makes it too obvious everything is on a grid.

Also, the wall in the second image, it might just be me but this seems to cause a perspective problem. One, not using a wall-top tile, since we're outside and there is no ceiling overhead. Two, the top of your wall is even with the floor behind it, but it's just black, and there is no railing or anything. If it is supposed to also be a wall for the upper section, it would need to be taller.

@Snuffy Cool, I like it. I think you should add some dirt & grime to the top surfaces of your brick columns, because they look sharp and clean right now. Maybe also some critters, like rats and spiders?

@Snuffy Looking good! That sprite is fantastic.

You may want to consider adjusting the pixels between the tops of the columns and ceiling tiles such that everything is flush.

Nice graphics, Snuffy. Very American looking.

Here's an experimental map from the secret project I've been hinting at before.

I'm overall pretty satisfied with it. Later, I'll try to find some better cliff tiles that aren't so

square-y. Animals and stuff needs to be added too, of course.

@Luiishu535 - I really like those ground tiles. Did you make them yourself? I think you achieved a good balance of cozy but not too cluttered. However, I do agree that the blocky cliffs look out of place. I'm not sure about the mix of grey cliffs with the brown either. Overall, though, I like it.

Nah, I believe someone called "Nightwalker" made them. Thanks!

@Snuffy I agree with the two things mentioned so far (adjust the pixels on the columns and add some dirt and grime). I love the map overall though, it's got some great style. That sprite! I love it!

@Luiishu535 You already said you're going to find cliffs that are less blocky, which addresses what would be my first criticism. I think the gray and brown are fine together, except I also think the gray should be less blocky, unless they are supposed to be man-made columns, in that case blocky is good. Otherwise I like it, it's nice looking and definitely has a sense of atmosphere.

Update: Thank you both for some good advice!

Just beat the last of us 2 last night and starting jedi: fallen order right now, both use unreal engine & when I say i knew 80% of jedi's buttons right away because they were the same buttons as TLOU2 its ridiculous, even the same narrow hallway crawl and barely-made-it jump they do. Unreal Engine is just big budget RPG Maker the way they make games nearly identical at its core lol.
