Attempt #2 at shadow..

Added the shadow caused by the lid and darken the window. It is night time anyways

Then I did some googling for kerosene lamp to see if I get the shadow right, and my mind is blown.

They have shadow at the bottom but nothing from the top? o_O

I don't know whats happening anymore.. maybe there is some distance between the lamp in the picture and the wall.

Edit: Included that other bits of light on the furniture:

Hi guys, this is some basic barebones stuff but I was wondering if anyone knew a better way to do mountains in MV using the RTP? I'm just starting to get my feet wet here. Also, I know it needs a lot of stuff to flesh out the map, but I was hoping to get the structure better. Any feedback would be appreciated!

Yeah it definitely needs more "layers" to it. Right now it looks like a wall rather than a slope. It should start with a wide area at the base and get progressively smaller as it goes up. Also, when working with mountain tiles, a good rule to follow is the "rule of three"--never go more than three spaces without adding some kind of curve to the rock face. Keeps it looking more natural and varied.

I appreciate the feedback guys! I see that I approached the mountain wrong and made it more along the lines of a boring plateau. Are there any more reference pictures that might help me nail the mountain feeling?

I think what you can do is to have the cliff sides fade into complete darkness if the path is supposed to be that high up.

Otherwise I would consider pockets of space on the cliffs to add trees + vines + roots to create the illusion that there are slopes along the side of the mountain.

@RocketKnight: Awesome interior (the one at the bottom right hand corner). By the way, is that a baby crib with a baby in it in a projector room? o_o

The garden view is beautiful as well.

I am not so sure about the first picture though. Seems like some thing(s) is/are off to me.

I am no carpet connoisseur but the carpet looked odd to me. It almost seems like it used to be a square/rectangular carpet but you cut it out to make a round one instead. The pixels on the stairs (the one next to the black area) looked like they are on two different angles.

Amazing screenshots! That's some really nice mapping and tiles. When is your game coming out?

I appreciate all the feedback guys, and I redid the map to fit more of a mountain pass. Here is the barebones that I made:

Am I moving in the right direction? And if so, what are some ideas to what I could add to this map to add clutter? From the RTP, all I seem to have going is a few rocks, some dead trees and stumps.

@Neeru I think it looks too bare. It is obviously some sort of desert, or has that appearance but it is lacking more detail. Maybe some cactuses will add to this map and maybe you could tint the screen to give it a darker more cold feeling :)

It definitely needs some more stuff on the ground though, otherwise it has that large open space which isn't taken by anything.

Keep going! :) You will get there. Like most things to make your maps better it will take effort, time and practice :)

Best of luck!

Sennie.

The room interior looks great, but I'm baffled by the light source coming through the bottom entrance. That is really bright -- it looks like an electric light in the hallway outside, but if that's what it is, why isn't there electric light in the room?

@Aoi Ninami:

I am glad that you pointed that out. It is actually the outside light from the RTP tileset. I put it there to show that it is an exit (instead of using carpet like what they do in pokemon and some other game)

It is meant to be the light coming in from outside of the room. I suppose I can turn the brightness down since the outside tavern that is connected to the room isn't that bright.

@BlackLiquidSorrow Maybe push the flags back a tile because the walk way up to the castle seems pretty cramped, but overall it looks pretty good.

@The Art of Gaming Yeah, I'll do that.

New map from the same area

I tried to  make it seem like you're inside the walls. How'd I do?

Our latest feature is an interview with... me?!

People4_2 (Capelet off and on) added!

Just beat the last of us 2 last night and starting jedi: fallen order right now, both use unreal engine & when I say i knew 80% of jedi's buttons right away because they were the same buttons as TLOU2 its ridiculous, even the same narrow hallway crawl and barely-made-it jump they do. Unreal Engine is just big budget RPG Maker the way they make games nearly identical at its core lol.
Can someone recommend some fun story-heavy RPGs to me? Coming up with good gameplay is a nightmare! I was thinking of making some gameplay platforming-based, but that doesn't work well in RPG form*. I also was thinking of removing battles, but that would be too much like OneShot. I don't even know how to make good puzzles!
one bad plugin combo later and one of my followers is moonwalking off the screen on his own... I didn't even more yet on the new map lol.
