That, my friends, is what we artists call a tangent.  It's where lines intersect instead of crossing.  It's uncomfortable to look at and breaks perspective.  You'll need to either bring the wall a square down or bring the rug up a bit to fix it.

Hah.  Tangents are something to watch out for when you're composing an image, but it's not something you often have to worry about.  It's pretty easy to avoid once you know about it.  (I have that same keyboard.)

I LOVE those world tiles, they make me feel inferior.  Those are both good maps.  I know it can actually happen but it's strange to see pines so close to palm trees on a map.  I just think of pines as being very northern and palms as being very southern.  (You can sure tell which half of the hemisphere I live on.)

@esby: Looks Ronove-tastic. And Chrono Trigger-tastic.

You always have these charming screenshots, esby, when am I gonna be able to play something? :p I think you make a VERY good use of small spaces. Your stuff is always so nice to look at.

@Sharm you're right. IT looks like mist the more you think about it. Making snow look like snow on some cobble stones are hard to make. I need some tips. do you like the trees though?
I agree with everything Sharm said - but also consider the color palette - the trees look very "autumn" where the rest of the map is definitely in the dead of winter. I'm just confused as to why all of the trees are still alive and kicking when at first glance they don't seem like the kinds of trees that can live through winter. Does that make sense?

EDIT: Also, for the snow try the acrylic brushes included with GIMP for the textures - it can create that sort of "build up" look without looking misty. If you're using Photoshop there are a TON available.

So, me and my mates were out and i came back at this time, 10 PM and I CANNOT SLEEP.

The mixtures between staying awake and being deprived of sleep is awesome

I have made a total of 8 maps in the past two days. if i keep this up, i can make over 100 in say 1 month. which is more than enough for my game...

anyway

heres one I've made to pass time.

trying to get some sleep, but i cannot do so.

any advice on how to sleep?

lols

also, please ignore the strange trees.

I like those trees better than the ones on your other winter map, to be honest. The way the stone path stops in the snow is a bit weird - and the snow is still looking pretty mist-like (also consider the bases of the green trees in the snow - they'd be partially covered with the way it's travelling).

@Luiishu535 You would need a resolution of 608x480 to get a 19x15 map. Because each tile is 32x32 pixels, subtracting 32 from the width gives us 19 tiles to work with. Hopefully this helps you continue your project!

Start with turning off your phone and your computer. Then you can sleep.

Aside from the path that is only visible in the snowy ground, the abrupt change between greens and snowy bits does not make sense. The transition could be A LOT smoother.

Why is there a gigantic boulder in the middle of the path?

Looking' pretty sharp, folks!

@VideoWizard Thanks! That does help me out, buddy. I will stick with the standard resolution for this project though, due to some technical difficulties. I will probably use that resolution for my next games though.

I feel like a GIMP Wizard now.

I am pretty proud of this. It's the first title screen that I've felt like I have control over its direction and creation, without needing to ask around for help.

For reference, here is the old version:

I like the new version a lot better, since it's actually what I had in mind from the beginning. I was originally going to have a font with a blood effect, but I found another font, which sort of reminds me of Stephen King. I like SK and the fonts that he use. :D

Overall, what are your thoughts on it?

@Craig I really love the distinctive look you've got going.   Your inside maps are really crisp and nice and I particularly love your first forest map.  The only thing that gives me pause is the texture of the leaves/trees in the second forest map...but maybe I'd feel better about it if there were more greenery/shrubbery/more detail on the map.

Hello fellows of the RM world.  I present to you another map I'm designing and would like feedback.  I'm using the Kaus mountain tiles and the base resources for this.  Any feedback you can give would be lovely.  Also the hole in the bridge is an event.  It's there for a reason.  xD

@SquallStorm it looks decent, good use of the parallax background.  the shape of the leftmost hill does feel a little forced, I feel like the hypotenuse (if you imagine it as a triangle) should have more irregularity rather than be so straight.  And by the same token, the whole bottom edge of the hills would be better, I think, if they were not a pure horizontal straight line (except for at the right-most part of the map - I think there should be more irregular indentations like this).   I'm not a huge stickler about maps so I don't mind these too much; the biggest criticism of the map for me though would be that the bridge looks strange.

Hey thanks for the feedback Jon!  I agree that the long edge looks too straight.  Could you explain what you mean about the bridge please?

@MrLogie it's a pretty solid map! Everything about it looks pretty good, that's a great start to mapping!

The only thing I would suggest right now is to use shift mapping on the forested areas that are right next to the water. Make them go over the water rather than having ground be abruptly right next to it. The only reason there would be ground first is if it were a beach to and open lake or ocean, so I guess I don't know the context, but if it's just a river passing through, those black forest tiles should go over the water rather than be right next to it. I hope that makes sense!

Your forested areas could have a bit more variety, as they are strictly clean cut in most places. The bottom left is a great example of what it should look like a bit more. Again, don't really know the background too much, it could be that it is a society of lumberjacks that cut in a very orderly fashion.

I would also suggest only having 2 or 3 tiles of black forest on the side of the map, it just looks like wasted space right now.

Our latest feature is an interview with... me?!

People4_2 (Capelet off and on) added!

Just beat the last of us 2 last night and starting jedi: fallen order right now, both use unreal engine & when I say i knew 80% of jedi's buttons right away because they were the same buttons as TLOU2 its ridiculous, even the same narrow hallway crawl and barely-made-it jump they do. Unreal Engine is just big budget RPG Maker the way they make games nearly identical at its core lol.
Can someone recommend some fun story-heavy RPGs to me? Coming up with good gameplay is a nightmare! I was thinking of making some gameplay platforming-based, but that doesn't work well in RPG form*. I also was thinking of removing battles, but that would be too much like OneShot. I don't even know how to make good puzzles!
one bad plugin combo later and one of my followers is moonwalking off the screen on his own... I didn't even more yet on the new map lol.
