I like the first one better too - something that's really bothering me though is the shadows/path. If the sun's coming from the top left - why are there shadows that make it look like the sun is coming from the south? It's a bit of an eyesore to be honest. And I love the way you've painted your grass and everything - but the bump mapping (that's what it is, right?) on the path makes it very distracting in comparison to the rest of the map.Just wondering, which one of the two looked better:

The bump there looks 100 times better. It just flows with the graphics a lot more fluidly - in your other screen the path looked like it was copy/pasted from some sort of isometric-style fantasy game. And the shadows don't look natural at all - you have trees that already have their shadow placement with additional shadows placed against other trees etc. It's just overkill in my opinion.Thank you for the pointers.
The light is hitting the tree from around the 8 o'clock direction (somewhere in between the west and south side).
Is it because the bump stood out too much?
They are slightly more subtle in the previous map:
