    I think it looks fine.

cekobico is likely correct in that the screenshots thread would be a better place to post, but as for the screenshot... I think it looks fine. If it's not a well-traveled path, it's likely good as-is. A path that is not well traveled will often have overgrown areas.

Very unimpressive compared to everything else in this thread (no custom graphics) but it's kinda pretty I guess. ;P The glowy sparkles (seen in the upper-right corner) drift around the map :)

The giant tree is one of Avery's MV resources.

The lighting is from Terrax Lighting.

@Emeraq Thank you! Some if it is RTP, most of the trees are not. The cliffs are from Pandamaru~

Yup Town and Country one from pv games.  Stacked all the trees with TileD program so I could get more than 2 layers.

This is my first go with RMMV, and first go with anything RPGMaker since like 2000 and I didn't really know what I was going then... and maybe still don't! :)  These are all RTP as that's what I'm working with for now, would love to replace with custom stuff down the road.

I've included my first overworld map, a small harbor town, and a couple of shops. Feel free to critique and make suggestions!

@Emeraq pretty good for your first attempt!  i have a few suggestions:

-for the worldmap, the northwest and center regions look quite bare.  sprinkling in a bit more hills/mountains in these areas would help i think.

-for the town, you did a good job having a variety of building shapes, but the town itself looks like a perfect square/rectangle, which feels awkward and unnatural.  also, since you have some patches of grass going on, maybe throw some single tile patches around to give some extra detail; right now the sand areas without any grass looks very bare and plain.

-for the blacksmith shop, you've got a lot of empty space going on.  consider making the map a little smaller to minimize this, or adding a table or workbench or something in the middle of that open space.

Overall, the biggest thing I think you need to work on is avoiding empty space (the human eye doesn't like it) and making sure to make the most out of the space you do use (these kind of go hand in hand).  But good job!

@jonthefox Thank you for the input. I'm not done by any stretch, and will definitely add in more detail. (I don't know what I did to the edit of my post but the world map is gone and will work on some fixes before putting it back up)

I'll focus on the 'squareness' of the town first. Thanks again for the feedback.

    @Emeraq

I agree with Jonthefox, over all good job for your first attempt, but some mapping errors:

    Town:

    1. some autotiles of the northern town wall are messed up and only 1 tile high ( behind the buildings) use shift mapping to fix it
    2. The windows of the upper left building are cut of, you only used the lower half
    3. I personally feel like you placed all windows one tile too high, but I am more of a "2-tile high buildings" person so that may be personal taste
    4. You used the upper part of the palm trees as bush(?) but the player will see that it is cut of and it doenst look too nice

    Shop:

    1. I dont think that the "fancy" tables fit into the town setting and should be used in a blacksmith at all. Especially not as work place.
    2. The clock looks out of place
    3. The bow and arrow and the jewels are meant to be placed on tables
    4. considering on how empty the rest of the shop is the walls look too full
    5. The doorway is two tiles wide but the outside door is only one tile
    6. You might want to make the lower half smaller

@Iliketea Thank you for the feedback. I've made some adjustments based on advice given thus far. I had to change the height and width of the town map to accommodate the wall behind the building issue, no matter what I did with shift+click it wasn't fixing it. Also in regards to the window and palm tree being cut off, there's actually only one tile, there's nothing above or below that goes with it. There are other windows I can use that have two tiles but that one was actually a one tile window. The palm tree appeared to me to be a mini-one as it didn't have a base underneath it like the tall one did, but if others eyes aren't seeing it that way, I'll just remove them.  Am I allowed to repost corrections? I'm not sure on the rules of posting edits?

@Skunk I don't have the best eye for things, so others opinions will be better, but it looks good so far. The only thing my eyes don't like is upper right where the wall ends, with the trees behind it and the top of the building and top of the hillside (or whatever above)  It all just looks, I dunno, I'm just having hard time with it.
