Oh yeah, innovative with the light. I like it.

I can't quite buy the vertical wooden rafters though, but it *might* be because of perspective, and how it *looks* like they go straight up just like the stanchions below them. If I knew how to adjust the color and lighting of them (I can do it - I just can't visualize this in my mind), maybe I could get away with it.

@thepsyche - From a RL standpoint, the vertical wooden beam (going up to the sky, then) could be made darker and the horizontal ones (on the top) brighter (or as they currently are).
You could also add some kind of roof but it'll hide the window.

Thanks cabfe. I'll give it a bash. I'm warming to the idea.

Well, I am creating a series of maps for a new game I'm working on. I have decided that many maps will contain parallax images "in the far background". Other than that I'm using Ancient Dungeons and FSM Tiles, along with a few modified RTP. Here is my screenshot. Thoughts?

There's a really stark contrast between the grass in the parallax and the grass from the tileset - it's really distracting for me. You'd want to either edit the color of the grass to match better - or apply a tint to the screen to unify them a little bit better (the colors in both of the grasses are opposing though - one grass is really yellow, and one is really blue so it might be tough).

@GoodSelf I like it. But, what are the yellow clumps?

It's like dried out, sand tinted grass? Yeah. It's grass.
Yeah, it doesn't look like grass at all I realized - I clumped the pieces of yellow grass together and used those instead. :kaocry:

EDIT: Also, that stone square on the bottom looks like it floating on the grass.

I'm gonna weave into the story the reasoning behind the yellow grass. I'll even use your line "Yeah, it doesn't look like grass at all". =]

@somenick In addition to the grass feedback, I was wondering what - if anything - is supporting that stone balustrade? Apart from the very first upright, it appears to be floating above the pathway.

OK, here are the changes I have made. Any feedback appreciated.

@IAmJakeSauvage About your map, it looks like it might be in a desert or semi-desert geographical area. Is that what you are going for?

Also, the side fences in your bridge area and side of the maps look like they are chopped off at the bottom.

That looks better! It doesn't clash now at least - where is this located? You have a bit of dead space - if it's a castle, the plants would most likely be laid out a bit more extravagantly - if it's outdoors the greenery would be a little bit more wild.

And yes! It's supposed to be a barren wastleland - I've since changed the filtering because nothing about the colors looks "barren" to me. And I'll look at the bottom of the fences to see how I can better cut them off. :kaoslp:

Well, this is actually located on a hill a bit far from the castle, so I'll make the plants wilder. Later, after taking some stairs and such, characters will be up close to the castle and town (no more parallax, but tile mapping). Its actually a scifi game, but the party is on a lesser developed planet. Won't say more, storyline reasons.

@kovak

Yet your windows already look cool. Guess I'll check out that script. Think it will play fine with Yanfly scripts? Im using them kind of heavily.

Tried to modify some of menu windows using Super Tools Engine
I'm not satisfied yet

@somenick I'm using Yanfly Windows and all i can say is that you need the screen Height needs to be at 624 or above to not have some content hidden without noticing and to keep changing from one option to another since some Windows are in hidden in some menus and you can't edit what's is hidden till it appears on screen

After @somenick pointed out the fences - they really bothered me, so I swapped them out. I also played around with the shadowing and general "feel" of the map. The Emerald Depths are surrounded by "barren" wastes - and after working through some of the maps I realized that...they looked very full of life and I needed to tone that down a little. Any feedback is much appreciated! :kaojoy:

Well..I'm new to RPG maker and I'm using VX Ace.
I want to make a game for quite a long time, and I want to make a smaller RPG before going to make the one that want to make(just to familiarize).
I want to ask is my graphic too simple and blank?(I am a boy by the way....The color use is for the character)

Just beat the last of us 2 last night and starting jedi: fallen order right now, both use unreal engine & when I say i knew 80% of jedi's buttons right away because they were the same buttons as TLOU2 its ridiculous, even the same narrow hallway crawl and barely-made-it jump they do. Unreal Engine is just big budget RPG Maker the way they make games nearly identical at its core lol.
Can someone recommend some fun story-heavy RPGs to me? Coming up with good gameplay is a nightmare! I was thinking of making some gameplay platforming-based, but that doesn't work well in RPG form*. I also was thinking of removing battles, but that would be too much like OneShot. I don't even know how to make good puzzles!
one bad plugin combo later and one of my followers is moonwalking off the screen on his own... I didn't even more yet on the new map lol.
time for a new avatar :)
