@Kes Ohh thank you! I didn't realize that, I changed it.

@Nutty171 Okay, I see what you mean now with the fences. I fixed it! Also added another kind of grass tuft. The patches of high grass were supposed to be overgrown/abandoned crop fields, I guess they don't look like it? :/ Is there any way I can make them different so they look like that? About the roof tiles, I fixed the error but the grass tufts are not a problem since I have a plugin that lets me define custom collision with regions.

woa, a lot of talented mappers. my map making skills tend to not be bound by a grid per say, I don't even use lat and lon for maps I make by hand. I made up a world map and started fleshing it out recently. not sure how it translated to ACE really.

I only recently started to play around with world tiles, I hope that water works in game. nervous about making towns and castle tiles, but I think I can manage in time. this is definitely a wip.

I admit the gulf in the southern part of "Jot" is disproportionate in the engine, I blame my inability to maintain ratios :p but I'm happy I figured out how to make fortification walls.

I'd love to see it in game, with lightning etc
Err... About that... If any lighting, there will just be a circle of darkness around the player... I'm bad at doing lighting smh
just shift click the dark floor behind hills etc, as the floor usually would continue there.
Oh, right! Thank you!
it's not easy to create such a big map
I'm constantly afraid while making these maps that there's too much negative space or just not enough variety... But I'll probably have a demo out relatively soon to see what other brains think about it. (Shameless unintentional self-promotion)

Well, let's see... Trees normally take a long time to grow. I'm no farmer, but I think that normal grass would be unlikely to grow on farmland. The first thing that would happen after a farmland being abandoned I think would be weeds coming in, and then competing with the grass that tries to grow there. So I would suggest having less plant life instead of more, and maybe still some of the tilled farmland. EDIT: Oh, you might also be able to add a battered-up scarecrow. Scarecrows just scream "crops".

I'd like to share more about Wanda - A Beautiful Apocalypse ReMake screenshots.
Here is the completely revamped map : A lonely robot overlooking a world that no longer answers its call.

I finally took some time to polish the battle system in TED! I'm really excited for the way it feels now versus before - but I'd love some feedback on the "style" of my battleback, and the setup overall.

Note: (The battle back was made for a cave map, not for the town map)

Overly dramatic game developer incoming! :kaopride:

@IAmJakeSauvage Oh, that battle system is amazing! Minimal and effective, instant 16-bits nostalgic strike for me! Good job!
Excellent! I'm really glad you got that vibe because that's what's inspiring me and driving me. :kaopride:

@lock60 The water on the side looks odd, is it coming down or flowing over? I can't tell. The more I look at it the more it looks like flowing over, but first glance it looked like it was flowing towards me.

@Nutty171 Hmm, I'll get rid of the trees! I kinda disagree about the sparse vegetation though. For example there's a field behind the building where I work, and currently it is not being used by the farmer. The last time it was mowed wasn't long ago and it's already immensely overgrown with tall grass. You can't see the ground at all. I guess I could try to make a tile that better represents the tall grass?
I like the scarecrow idea, but I'm not sure if it would fit into my setting...
Thank you for your help in any case!

@chungsie I saw the picture before reading your post, and assumed it was quicksand... :/

@autophagy By all means, go with overgrown. Just by seeing an unused field you have more knowledge of the subject than I.

EDIT: (This edit was made after autophagy liked my post, so keep in mind that she may or may not actually like this map) Here's the Crystal Woods, which lie just above the Abandoned Mines. I drew a red X over the starting position. (you don't see a big red X while playing the game) This is the first map you see in the game.

Enemies are encountered in the tall grass. Please proceed to criticize the map to shreds.

Just something I was throwing together for a retro challenge that I won't be able to complete but it was fun playing with Time Fantasy. I want to work with them more now!

@Nutty171 I feel that is a lot of forest. Not much identifiable landmarks in the woods that I can tell, would be easy to get lost :)
@Arcmagik that's not bad, sentry walls tended to be smaller than the rest of the fortification, feels like a half done castle to be honest

possible.PNG

I decided to make a vegetation autotile to put ontop of the animated field, not sure how it will look in game. Also, went with some bluegrasses, and violet and pink trees :p

@chungsie It is true that I hadn't added the doors and windows yet. However based on the images I saw on single walled Castles the only difference is the back walls going up an additional level could be removed. The castle proper itself is 3 stories (accept for the observation tower which goes up off-screen) vs the 1 story of walls.

@Nutty171 put some holes in that forest stat! seriously just go through random parts (that the player will see, of course. ignore the areas the camera was scroll over) and erase some of the trees, and put a few things in the spaces. Big walls of trees are not pretty, break it up.

That said, the interior area is very nice, I really like it. The only thing I can say is there are a lot of tools on the ground, but that might be plot related.
