Excellent, you give hope to all of us who haven't used Parallax mapping :) .

Considered doing a tutorial on your style of Mapping with the editor?.

Most of mapping theory is something that applies regardless of the medium you use. I will definitely be making a tutorial (or discussion) about mapping at one point or another. I've just got to find the time to actually write it up.

In the meantime, check out Indrah's mapping tutorial if you haven't already. It's got some mucho cool stuff.

@Lone Wolf - Is that a public script you are using? One of the ideas I've had rolling around in my head for a while now is to do something similar with painted backgrounds combined with a color coded passability map. It would require a pixel movement script that checks the passability map. I assume that's what you are doing or something similar?
It's my own private script, but yes, it's essentially like that. I have black representing non-passable terrain, and use RGB values to determine the slope of passable terrain. I've worked out the encoding pretty well, but the actual movement algorithm is a whole bunch of linear algebra I don't really want to write, so it's currently optimized only for gradual slopes.

Every game has that one or two cute little race thats a a mascott fro the game, FF the moogle and chocobo, phantasy star has the rappy, and heres mine :)

With the idea im working on these little guys should be a playable race, and this is one of their towns, they build there home sinside rock faces. And they arent uniteligent, they do make doors for their homes lol, but really I love the thought of one of these guys running around in armor with a sword lol.

(animal chibi people by mick and i think they were posted at first seed material)

@bluntsword:

Thank you. The battle system is fully automatic, it only allows you to set the AI of the actions, use items and decide whether to retreat or dash forward.

@Lone Wolf:

The intro of Tales of Phantasia was the inspiration for the pauses. Indignation!

@IndigoAir:

It's a pretty easy battle system to master since all you basically do is use items and make sure no one dies. And if you're talking about that map in the background, that's just the map I use to test out scripts.

@Knightmare:

My bad vision is probably to blame for all the giant sprites, I just can't follow tiny sprites on the screen all that well.

@WizzyT:

You nailed the two games that inspired it. I'll see if later on I can make a version of it that's more user friendly for the public.

And thank you all for the nice comments.

@Luna - Excellent! You prove again and again that it isn;t the tiles but how you use them.

@Wolf - Another great map, I like the style alot. Something looks off on the upper right with the cliffs, the perspective seems a little off.

@Shy - Nice mascott, I would so stuff that and put it on my mantle. Map looks good too, you are definetely improving.

Dang, needles, those are faaaancy. I really dig the colours you're using for that tree! Also, the little tulips are really lovely. ;w;

About the bush/grass/plant thing in the top left-ish part -- is it a bush, or grass? It seems too square for a bush, but too solid for grass.

(If I say bush or grass one more time in this post I will probably turn into a Bulbasaur.)

@Lunarea, that's gorgeous! Love how you've made it look like there's so much to do in this place, by keeping the map small and not having a lot of open space. I'll definitely be keeping an eye out for your tutorial, when you get the time.

@Lunarea, I'm not sure I what I enjoy looking at more, your awesome tiles/characters etc or your mad mapping skillz.

@Lone Wolf, I really like what you have going there. Its very unique. I'll will definitely be watching to see how it turns out.

@Celianna Huge fan of your work as well. It's been a blast trying to work your parallax tiles into a tile set since a stink at parallax mapping.

@Needles - Your trees are starting to look a lot better. They don't have the pathways that they used to so nice work on that. It seems like you could blend the coloring a little better. The inner part looks about 2 shades lighter than it should be or the outer 2 shades darker than it should be.

@Kuvo - The water is certainly interesting but the color seems to clash with the waterfall.

@Needles: I'd love your tree completely, if it weren't for the fact you mirrored and flipped over most of it, it's really obvious and takes away some of the fine detail appreciation. Try actually shading it with a light source that comes from the top left, and make it a bit more asymmetrical. It's a tree, not a statue. That said, I adore your dirt cliffs, so cute.

I'm messing around with Ace's mapping system, and I love the shadow settings! Though I must be stupid or something, because I can't seem to find the passage setting in the editor, someone care to point it out to me?

@Celianna if you look in the database and check the tilesets tab you can on the far right are buttons to edit passage settings and many other tile settings.

Hit the passage button then click the tiles just like in VX but its in the database.

@Lunarea Im wondering how you managed to get the shadow to continue up the wall in the Screenshot in post #15

I'm currently getting this issue

I've tried placing the blocks underneath the roof tiles however it causes all the wall blocks to join together.

Thanks, Lord Valdyr! And oh my god, 4 directional passages, I'm in heaven.

@WizzyT: Ace lets you make your own shadows, just click the shadow pen tool (right next to the bucket) and draw away.

Also, it might be useful to know that holding shift and right clicking something (you can also drag a selection), copies that tile exactly as it is, and then left clicking somewhere else, pastes that tile there. You can make autotiles behave a bit more like this.

I remember the Shift/Click thing from XP but it was still being annoyingly akward.

However I was not aware of the shadow pen tool :D ,

Muchos thankies!!!!.
