It's my own private script, but yes, it's essentially like that. I have black representing non-passable terrain, and use RGB values to determine the slope of passable terrain. I've worked out the encoding pretty well, but the actual movement algorithm is a whole bunch of linear algebra I don't really want to write, so it's currently optimized only for gradual slopes.@Lone Wolf - Is that a public script you are using? One of the ideas I've had rolling around in my head for a while now is to do something similar with painted backgrounds combined with a color coded passability map. It would require a pixel movement script that checks the passability map. I assume that's what you are doing or something similar?
Honsetly I love that, it looks like a cross between One Minute Hero and the Tales of battle system.
I remember the Shift/Click thing from XP but it was still being annoyingly akward. Thanks, Lord Valdyr! And oh my god, 4 directional passages, I'm in heaven.
@WizzyT: Ace lets you make your own shadows, just click the shadow pen tool (right next to the bucket) and draw away.
Also, it might be useful to know that holding shift and right clicking something (you can also drag a selection), copies that tile exactly as it is, and then left clicking somewhere else, pastes that tile there. You can make autotiles behave a bit more like this.
