Ah, I've always loved the Screenshot thread. ^^

@Kuvo: I've loved what you did with the water in the screenshot. Certainly makes a nice change, and the trees are great too. Just edit the waterfall in the 2nd screen to make it match, though.

A screen from Enelysion.

I need a bit of feedback, if someone has a moment D: I cannot find a tile combination I am happy with for a very important location in my game. Here is a screenshot of what I came up with in the regular VX;

Amd here is the same room as I have done it in Ace;

I am not very happy with either of these tile combinations, to be honest. And for reasons I can't really explain all that well, it is very important that the walls (at the very least) be light grey or white. Also, I know the layout needs work but for now I'd like to just focus on the tiles, please :)

@Luchino: looks good as always.

@IndigoAir: I have some white walls in my tileset if you're looking for more. Truth be said, it's not the walls that bother me, it's everything else in the room. It just stands out too much because it's made out of wood, and well, a lot of other colours. Also, in your VX screenshot, you are using a rooftop tile as a wall, which makes it look really weird.

@Indigo - i prefer the ace map. the first one to me looks like it is a dungeon mainly because the floor tiles are not something you would find in a house or room.

@Indigo: I think if you want to vary up the dorm room, make the walls or the floor a darker colour. Right now, it looks too big due to the light coloured walls and flooring. I think with a bit of contrast and a carpet or two, it will look alright. :)

@Celianna There are a couple things in your tileset that look like they might be useful for this, so maybe I will play around a bit tomorrow. I guess it makes sense for the wooden furniture to stand out with stone walls. I never really gave it much thought because in-universe it makes sense for both of them to be there. The ceiling tiles that I used for the wall in the first one don't really look weird to me at all, though. I tried them as an actual ceiling with several different wall tiles and they never looked halfway decent as roof tiles. Not sure what to do about there being too many colours either, since the beds and the bookcases more or less have to stay. I can take the flowers out, though.

@BulletPlus Well, it is inside a castle, so that is why there are stone floors and walls. However dungeons and castles do have different appearances, so if the second one works better I will stick closer to that.

Thank you both for the feedback :)

@Jack I missed your comment because I took forever to write out my post, but I will definitely take those points into consideration while reworking the area ^_^ Thanks!

@Luchino very impressive, I really like the shadows under your trees, and thanks

@knightmare thanks as well

The waterfall does look funny now that I sit bit and actually look it. Gonna have to fix it and try to add some shadows to the trees.

I have do this just for the pleasure of mapping :

I'm not really satisfied with the placement of the cactus, rocks and flowers, perhaps I will try to do something better with them.

^ Your placement seems fine to me. Maybe the map just appears a bit empty, and you're wondering how to fill it up. Maybe if you created a border around the town with a definitive entrance and exit could lessen that illusion of empty space. :)

@Nemau I think the map looks great :) The one and only suggestion Ican give (both with my super-limited mapping experience and also that Jack hasn't pointed out) is just adding one roof tile between the steps and the wooden door on the one building on the right. But if you do that, you might have to add another tile of steps... hmm. I dunno, to me having the steps go right to the door, when the entrance is clearly the same hight as the roof beside it doesn't look quite right. It makes the building look like it's just hanging in mid air. Maybe it's just me...

Edit: Also, it reminds me of Golden Sun. Dunno why exactly, but it does.

How does this one look;

Luchino-chan > it's a possibility, but I don't find my map too empty. I know a lot of makers make maps heavier (is it the good word ? ^^") but I personnaly prefer maps as the one in my latest post. ^^ (closer, in my opinion, to the style of old NES and SNES games, that I like) I don't say this style is better, it's just a personnal preference. ^^

@Nemau:

I like it a lot, but I agree with Luchi, you might wanna put some kind of border around the town.

Some screens from Starlight Adventure CXVIII:

Part of the intro scene.

Lovebird Island.

And a tavern. :3

@IndigoAir: That building is pretty big. You might want to reduce the size of the room with the lockers and mirrors (perhaps make it into a corridor?) Even for a dormitory, you're using the RTP and it looks like it has too much empty space. :o

@Avvy: Lovebird Island looks awesome. The tavern looks good, too. I'd recommend adding some extra feature other that just tables and people, though (like a dancer, a piano or some potted plants).

Just a quick map I threw together to test out some of Celianna's tileset:

@Radscythe Gah, it looks amazing. I want to live there. I can't really think of any feedback to give, I am not very good at mapping myself :x From a purely observational standpoint though, I don't see anything that could really be improved.

@radscythe: map looks yummy whats the story behind those skeletons? :D

ok I know I suck at mapping so I just used the sample map loader feature of vx ace, here is the map that I would be using for my game.

@jaypee

The map is of a certain company's lobby, and it's made to look foreboding yet extravagant.

Here's the CEO's room:

And jaypee that map's not bad, but it could use other things that would be in a church to fill up some of the empty space like torch stands for lighting, as a quick example.

@Luch - That looks pretty healthy, would love to take my morning jog there.

@Frog - Not bad. I feel there needs to be some more meat to the left of the door on the pub.

@Avi - Lol on the guy passed out on the table! The bar looks very crowded on the right (loving that off the chain feast they're having on the bottom) and no one on the left, spread the love a little, the left bar side is awfully lonely.

@Rads - If it weren't for the rotted skeletons littered throughout the room I would SO live there. Map itself looks solid. And the CEO room...well...he needs to share!

@JP - Way too open, unless you plan on packing the place I would shorten it about 2 tiles on each side.

@radscythe: thanks my map its pretty empty although I have no problem with it adding some torches and props would really help making it more livelier.

@knightmare: actually map is kinda bigger than I expected and yes I would crop some more of areas if necessary.

What if I took a lesson from Half Minute Hero? Let the player get dumb powerful each area, but reset them down to just slightly stronger than before for the next map?
Been averaging 2-3 hours sleep for almost a month now. Starting to space out all the time ^^;
