@Grim: I'd take quirky custom resources over RTP any day. You should definitely stick to making your own map graphics for projects you plan on working on, and don't let anyone tell you otherwise.

Yeah, you're custom stuff is actually pretty good. It may not be as clean as the RTP but it's definitely not bad. It fits well with the other resources, I'd say keep doing that.

This was my first attempt at Parallax mapping. I've only done three small maps so far. Lazy, lazy me. I did this a couple months ago. It's part of the intro scene. Credits to Celianna for the non-RTP elements and NASA for the moon shot. ;) I keep thinking I should make a project development page. Oh, and the main character is in his undies because I haven't done the spriting for his outfit for the side views yet. XD Poor, poor, cold player. Thoughts?
Lookin' sexy!

Here's a beta map that I made in less than 10 minutes. I still have to make a few changes, but this is pretty much the base of what it's going to be.

(This is an entrance of either a castle or a prison (final dungeon of the first area btw))

Edit:

Another beta map (a lot more epic) Volcano:

@RyanA, it's so small. Even clicking on it does not enlarge the image. So all I can make out is that it's the shape of a person. What is it - a character sprite, a map made in the shape of a person, something else? Can't comment on it if we don't know what it's meant to be ;)

It's a suspicious blacked out character :3 I used a full black sprite with white eyes for the culprit, Detective Conan style ;D

At least until you find out who they are :3

Here's a battle test:

Evil healing robots. I was trying to be crafty while making them, but I got bored :p

@Clareain - Personally, I'm not a big fan of the tiny character sprites facing off against the giant battlers. It just doesn't seem natural to me. Otherwise, I like the setup and looks like it'll be a very challenging fight.

Here's the first screenshot for Yip and I's mystery game. I will also note that it's still under heavy work and anything you see is subject to change.

Is it a restaurant? I think it needs more tables >_< And those two plants near the door, I think, would look better if they were hiding behind the wall by a tile. I'd make the counter area smaller and add somewhere there's a door to a bathroom. Last, maybe a few pictures on the walls :3

Well, I completed that city I was working on before. I still need to add the NPCs and doors (mainly events) but for all intents and purposes... It's done.

I like the modern style your going with, and the tall sprite is awesome, though for me a grand piano behind the counter just doesn't seem natural, you know how big those are in irl? I Don't know if they'd fit in your typical diners. Also the counter seems a tile too far from the wall, but that's just my personal preference.

Apart from that, what RyanA said, more tables + variety

P.s. almost forgot, in my experience, the kitchen is usually less visible/in a different room.

Liberty, I'd still make the outside wall a tile higher, for a big city like that you'd have big walls! :3 Also, won't the roofs of the houses overlapping the road block the player or is there some RPG Maker magic that makes them appear above? :3

Anyway, it's a really nice map :3

Clarien, I like the look of that battle system, very Mystic Quest! But I agree that the enemy battlers are a little bit too large, shrink them down a bit and all will be fine :3

Yeah, a lot of the **** back there is placeholder stuff while we make replacement tiles/objects. We'll end up adding tables, we kind of just wanted to put something, anything out for now.

As far as the kitchen goes, most diners, at least the ones that I eat at, have the kitchen right behind the counter. It's fairly commonplace, but not every area is like that either, so I totally understand if it's weird to some.

@Confederacy: I love the overall modern tone the screen gives off, as well as the sprite that looks a lot less chibi-ish and more gritty and, well modern.. Overall pretty awesome work:3

I decided to start drawing graphics for my project, heres the early stages, which is inspired somewhat by the Mother/Earthbound series. I'm still debating about making the buildings/etc more like the traditional isometric style of Earthbound/Mother, what do you guys think?

I think the sign and the windows could use some work--especially the windows, as they seem sort of flat in my eyes in comparison to everything else.

@Ooda: Looks really good, totally reminds me of Earthbound.

I think the buildings are fine as it is.

A battle test for my project. What do you think?
