@Elements: Looking very nice, though maybe some things like the manhole cover and utility posts could use a little more shading?

@Luchino: Thanks! I love that parallax you made. It's very nice and sets the scene wonderfully~

Here's a title screen for the game I'm working on.

Title.png

I know its not very fancy but any suggestions to make it better would be appreciated.

that looks kinda horrible, bro. what did you use to make it? it looks like you just found an image and slapped some text over it in Paint.

honestly to get a good looking title screen you're most likely going to make use of something like photoshop or GIMP.

That's EXACTLY what I did, lol. As you know I'm not a very graphical dude. I have GIMP and should probably use that. Any suggestions to make it look better? Is the font ok? Should I change the colors a little maybe? My suggestion for your next tutorial is "How to make a decent title screen" I would be all over it.

@Knightmare: I'm not an expert, but right away:

-Get rid of the horrible bad quality image. Use soemthign that doesn't look so grainy

-Font is all wrong, flat black for a title is rather sad

-Its BORING as it is. Part of it is the presentation (boring font) and the extremely bland (and ugly) maze image. Pretty much anyhing including a simple bakground color or a default rtp title would look more engaging. (Protip: looking at a maze from above is solving the puzzle. It drains all the fun from it. If you have to depict the actual maze, try to get a shot of the entrance or a crossroads or something more interesting/mysterious)

I suggest you scrap it and start by hunting down some decent images, and then look around for some fonts that could fit. Again, I'm not an expert, but maze=/=curly fonts, in my mind, maybe try some that are more square-ish? (theres hundred's of them out there)

Thanks Indy. I really am a graphical numbskull. Does graininess (yeah I know that's not a word) have anything to do with the file extension? I'll try some different fonts also and mess with the colors. Is there a particular color for title screens that tends to work well in most situations? I'll try to hunt down more mysterious and exciting images also. Thanks for the feedback.

Again, OH SO NOT an expert, but I understand jpgs are worse than pngs (which I undertsand is the format most used for RM stuff).

As for colors, I really can't say. Try somethign tht is visible and doesn't clash with your background. I usually just make a font layer and then duplicate it, change it to another color (white or black depending on background) and multiply that by 4 and twitch it around a bit so it creates an "outline" around the main font (so you have a colored center and a slight balck/white outline). (Yeah its a lame and probably inefficient method, but I so don't hadnle gimp beyond that sort of thing).

@Elements - are you making other roofs? The RTP ones kinda look a little weird with the rest of it. I think you're onto something though, I'd definitely get some shadows on the bigger building, it all looks a little flat.

I made the roofs for the buildings, but not for the houses yet, it is within the plan indeed

A video of the last battle system I made. (I am already aware that most people find the pauses disrupting)

Can I get a link to that?

RE: comments made on my last post. I didn't make any tiles myself... i'm not a tileset maker.

I tried making all my roofs the same size, but I dunno. I didn't like the results. (see spoiler)

2 tiles = The brown buildings don't look right.

3 tiles = the white buildings don't look right

</p>
This is what I have right now. I changed the floor tile, because I thought the other one looked a bit too noisy and detailed. I also got rid of the lower half of the map, and put it on another map. I didn't like the two together, and I think it already looks nicer individually.

@Elements: We need more modern resources. Keep it up. :)

@one hundred: I can't put my finger on it, but something does seem a bit off about your map. One thing I do immediately notice is the glaring 'negative space' that you have towards the left of the largest building. It's too empty. Maybe if you got rid of the left wall and the stairs and replaced it with another road, it would probably

look better.

Any opinions about it?

Big thanks to Celianna tiles, and Hanzo's recolor tiles. I totally forgot where I found the mountain tiles from.

Looks good, has a nice atmospheric feel to it. The only thing that jumped out at me is the gray stone on the left hand side on the mountain. It seems to stick out just a bit. Maybe it's the stone's bottom shadow?

zachfoss=> it very pretty, but I think the character is not good for this type of graphics rendering.

@zachfoss: That looks pretty solid, good work!

Now onto me! :3

So, I decided to share this because this was the first parallax I made, and also because I was going to share this on another forum a long time a go however, I didn't get round to it;

Enjoi :3

Thanks to some nice folk from ZFGC that made the Clock Tower in the shot <3
