I'm just curious in the different ways people work when building their game. Specifically mapping.

The hurdle I usually hit is when to map. I tend to start with some sort of village and I take the time to do a so-so map (mapping isn't my strong suit). Then I might fill in the events I want to happen on that map. Then comes another city and more mapping. In no time at all I get map burn and the motivation for the game starts to fizzle because I'm spending so much time trying to get these maps done and in the big picture I've completed just about 0% of my game.

Does anyone ever use blank square maps (filled with something like grass) as a placeholder for a town and once they've completed a portion of the game will go back and actually build the town?

Any other tips or suggestions when it comes to this sort of stuff?

Don't forget, aspiring writers: Personality isn't what your characters do, it is WHY they do it.
Hello! I would like to know if there are any pluggings or any way to customize how battles look?
I was thinking that when you start the battle for it to appear the eyes of your characters and opponents sorta like Ace Attorney.
Sadly I don't know how that would be possible so I would be needing help! If you can help me in any way I would really apreciate it!
