So I had a very strange bug happen on a playthrough... It's not the first time it's happened either, but it seems sporadic and rare, and I cannot recreate it for the life of me. It's rare but it's also pretty debilitating when it DOES happen, so it's a bug that I NEED to squash.

Occasionally during a fight, I will have a character die. This is normal, sure, whatever. However, once in a while, the fight will end, and a message will pop up: "<Character> has fallen in battle". It then directly takes me to a game over screen.

I have NO idea why this is happening. I feel like I've seen this as a character tag before but I cannot for the life of me remember where I've seen it. I've tried recreating the bug both through forced events and organically, and nothing seems to work. I don't know if this is a core problem or a script problem. Can someone point me in the right direction?

I've combed through these for any conflicts but I'm not really sure what the game over script call looks like so I'm not really sure what to look for. Here's a list of scripts I currently use:

I've moved this thread to Script Support. Please be sure to post your threads in the correct forum next time. Thank you.

That phrase doesn't sound like one of the default phrases (unless you change them somewhere), so I suggest you open the script editor, right-click on the slot list and select "find", and then place that phrase "has fallen in battle" (without the character name) there, it should list which script it was placed in.

That could just be an altered Knockout/Death state text, on the States tab.

In fact, you've got my State Commands plugin there.  I'd definitely look through all the states, and see if you can find a command for that plugin on any of them.

It almost sounds like you've got a duplicate of the Knockout state and sometimes that's being applied to an actor, and when it is, this state add/remove command is being run.

Oh wow Andar, that function is super useful. Unfortunately, all that does is take me to the vocab screen... That's it. Found it under "battle ending messages".

Also, it might be worth mentioning, this doesn't happen all the time and I can't recreate it at all. It didn't actually game over until the end of battle and it displayed the message as an actual message at the bottom, not a combat message at the top. The message is also different than the message applied to the death state, which is "has fallen!" as opposed to "Has fallen in battle!"

Shaz:

I double checked all of the states that use your scripts functionality and everything is referencing properly. Nothing comes close to referencing state 1 which is death. Going to keep poking around though, especially through your script.

Couple hours of work. Might use in my game as a secret find or something. Not sure. Fancy though no? :D
Holy stink, where have I been? Well, I started my temporary job this week. So less time to spend on game design... :(
Cartoonier cloud cover that better fits the art style, as well as (slightly) improved blending/fading... fading clouds when there are larger patterns is still somewhat abrupt for some reason.
Do you Find Tilesetting or Looking for Tilesets/Plugins more fun? Personally I like making my tileset for my Game (Cretaceous Park TM) xD
