How interesting is the idea of a post-apocalyptic/mystery/rpg?

I was thinking of making a game in a setting where instead of being defeated in the past and now coming back to try to take over the world, an evil cult actually won and sent the country into a post-apocalyptic tailspin. The game play will include mystery elements, namely problem solving, and only knowing minimal amounts of information to start, and slowly gaining more as you uncover more facts. The game will also be an rpg because it won't be set in one area, but across the whole country, and will feature some sort of battle system, I haven't decided yet. The story is going to be rather large, because each decision you make will affect the outcome at least a little bit, depending on how big the question at hand is, and the story will be the main theme of the game.

Let me know if you think this game is worth playing, or if it sounds super boring. I'd rather know now than spend months on it and then have no one even play it.

If you have any ideas you think might make the game more interesting let me know, I'm always open to input :)

Doesn't sound bad, but in my opinion you need to be prepared for your first game or couple games to not be played much at all. There's a ton of these games being churned out all the time, and nobody gets their first game so amazingly right that they get tons of attention out the gates. I've worked on a lot of projects myself and always scrap it halfway through because I've learned so much in the meanwhile that I can use to create something better, rinse repeat. Now my own projects are tabled anyway because I'm working full time on a project with a few others, but the point stands.

I think a post-apocalyptic, story-driven mystery-style RPG is a good idea, fundamentally. Just be prepared to dump TONS of time and resources into it, because you'll want so many features and things and art and whatever and making a really good game alone is brutally difficult.

But hey, keep me in the loop about it - I like the basic idea and I'd love to keep an eye on where you go with it.

I've already experience that a couple times. Scrapped a few, published a few, but I'm hoping this one will be my first breakthrough.

Thanks a bunch, being able to get another opinion will help a lot. I'll probably get a couple more people to help me if it really starts coming together. I have a friend that usually does graphics for me and there is a couple others I can ask, but it will definitely be mostly me.
