I think that when you partake of a type of media often enough, you begin to distinguish between things you don't like because they're bad products, and things you don't like due to your own individual preferences. We can dislike or even hate something while still accepting that it's, ultimately, a polished and well put together game. So does anyone have a game that performs well, but just doesn't appeal to you in spite of its qualities? And if so, why?
For me, the most outstanding example would be Okami. Beautiful and unique art, concepts and themes that aren't often touched upon in western culture, nuanced gameplay with a solid progression and difficulty curve that lasts throughout its considerable length, and arguably the best game that came out of Clover. And for the life of me, I just don't like it. I find it dull, plodding, and repetitive. Its twists spoil the story for me instead of enriching it. And the Clover sense of humor--which I like in most of their games--misses more than it hits for me.
Anyone else?
