Games you acknowledge are good but still don't like.

Far Cry 3 is a big one for me. I acknowledge it's a well put together game, but I just can't get past the forced swearing and the up-its-own-ass character development.

I never really managed to get into the Fire Emblem series, either. I'll have to change that once Awakening comes out.

I have this personal pet peeve about SRPG games that don't let you do anything other than go to the next story battle, then see a cutscene, then go to the next story battle... So yeah, I've never been able to get into Fire Emblem either. I admit that its a good series, I just... I can't play it myself.

No, in all seriousness... It's hard to explain, but it has this amazing mix of science, psychology and spirituality/religion that just resonates with me personally.
If you were to tell me that a video game includes themes of, among other things, Jungian psychology, Nietzchean philosophy, gnosticism, and various eras of science fiction, I'd tell you it couldn't possibly work. After playing Xenosaga, I'm still not sure if it does, but overall the game left a positive impression on me despite its numerous flaws.

Episode three is topic appropriate for me because of the end of Shion's development arc. If I say I like episode three, it's only because I conveniently forgot that part of it.

Episode 3 is also my favorite of the three (which isn't saying much) if only because a character I detest has his pride crushed by a so-called loser :)

Just remembered two more.

Super Mario 64. I played and beaten both the original and the DS version, and it's still my most least-liked game in the series.

It's a great game, but there's just something about the controls that I couldn't explain properly. Even on my repeat playthroughs,

I can never bring myself to finish again.

Final Fantasy: Mystic Quest. The story is unbearably simple, and the battles are just piss-poor easy and boring (save for bosses).

I've heard people saying the music is the best on the SNES, but I think it's just alright overall. I know it was meant to be a starter RPG,

but if I had to recommend anyone a starter RPG, it would have to be any Pokemon game and/or the original Final Fantasy.

I must say I absolutely adore the Mother series. I just... don't like playing them, personally. Particularly Mother 3. It's a game that I WANT to like to play, but I just can't get into the battle system. Beyond that, though, I still love the series' universe and characters. That fits the criteria still, no?

There are quite a few games that I don't like but admit are good, but if I had to pick one, it would be Final Fantasy 4. I understand it's the game that showed that RPGs could be a story-telling medium, but I just can't get into the story it has to tell. The "plot twists" are over the top and ridiculous, the characters are flat as a rock, and the setting is boring. Not only that, but even though the story has a large cast of twelve playable characters, they are switched in and out of the party at seemingly random times, causing you to lose any gear you bought for them and any levels that you grinder if they don't ever return as one of the main five party members at the end of the game. I got about half-way through the game before I took a break away from it, and still haven't finished it. I truly hope it does get better, since the random and reviewers tend to say that this is the best game in the series.

I probably should cut it some slack though. I played FF6 first, so it just seems like a step back for me since the games are somewhat similar as compared to the rest of the series.

Odin Sphere, it's an old-school 2D-side scroller beat-em up fused with the Norse mythology. Many reviewers say it's good, but I don't really like the game's mechanic and graphic.

since the random and reviewers tend to say that this is the best game in the series
One thing to be noted, FFIV is designed to be clitche, and they go overboard with the cheesy elements in the later remakes. Maybe it was not so bad when it first came out in SNES, but Square-Enix sure racked up the "over the top and ridiculous" and other angsty stuff.

Eh, Dragon Quest IV came out before Final Fantasy IV, and actually had a better story that was told better, ditto with Phantasy Star II. Final Fantasy is given way too much credit for doing stuff first that other games had already done and done better.

Idk, I generally find the two that are considered the best are six and seven. Four is the hipster choice. (Personally I consider the best run of FF games to be FFV-FFT (V, VI, VII, Tactics).

Also, I can't STAND Final Fantasy IV, so yeah.

The early Phantasy Star games. I got hooked on the franchise by playing Phantasy Star 4. It was absolutely spectacular. Loved everything about it. Then I go back to the originals because I decide I should know its roots. Personally, I don't think putting the player in a position in which they are very likely to die as soon as they leave the safety of the city walls is a good design decision. Both Phantasy Star 1 and 2 suffered from this, so obsessing over how the hell I'm going to survive that initial onslaught enough times to level somehow managed to completely overshadow any plot hooks that should have kept me playing. 3 just didn't have anything that hooked me into the story early enough.

And stepping outside of RPGs for a moment... Half-Life 2. It just didn't have that same "You get out or you die" motivation that had me finish the original, and games like Bioshock. I felt that at any time, if I simply got creative enough, the only things keeping me fighting were some carefully placed blocking volumes.

I loved Xenogears but couldn't get into Xenosaga.  The lack of music through most of the game was mostly to blame for this; without any music I just got extremely bored.  I try to beat every game I buy and this was one of the few titles where I stopped midway.  I refused to move onto the second and third games without completing the first.

FF8 is the only Final Fantasy beyond 4 (never played 1-3) that I couldn't complete.  Didn't like the characters or the draw system.  I probably spent more time playing Triple Triad than the actual game itself.

Willing to start the flame war against myself, but I can't seem to like the Battlefield series, especially when compared to Call of Duty. SO many people love Battlefield and prefer it to CoD, but I can't, for the life of me, get into it. I guess I have always just liked the feel of CoD more.

On top of that, Gears of War and Halo. Both are great series, both just don't seem to appeal to me. I have tried numerous times to get into them but just can't come to like them. I just feel like something is missing or wrong when I play them.

All recent Elder Scrolls games.  I mean, seriously; can't update that atrocious battle system for the 21st century?  What the crap?  It's the only thing that prevents me from getting into that series.

Portal comes to mind, for me. Everyone I knew was raving about the game and everyone kept giving me the 'shocked' response when I told them that I hadn't played it. Finally, one friend was so adamant that I MUST play it that he purchased it for me on Steam. I played through the game, and while I understand how people would think it's a really good game, I wasn't 'wowed' by it and had no desire to replay it or play Portal 2. The game was just not for me. I did like GLaDOS though.

I think you should try Portal 2 it might change your mind. One thing I didn't like about Portal 1 was it was short. But the sequel blew me away, you learn more about the main character and also Rat-Man (the guy who wrote all those messages on the walls in Portal 1) also you don't seem to stay in the test chambers alot in the sequel at least to me it didn't, it felt like I was spending most of the time being in the bowels of Aperture.

The Uncharted series - I had the 1st & 2nd one for some time. I enjoyed the 1st one until I grew tired of it. But then my friend got me the 2nd one for Christmas the year it came out and it made me feel obligated to finish the first one. So I did, and then when I started the 2nd one, I grew tired of that quite quickly. However, I do acknowledge that it's a fantastic series.

The recent Final Fantasy games - I lost interest after FFX. Not saying I disliked FFX though! Just saying the games afterwards didn't seem too appealing to me.

Resident Evil - I'm gonna get some flak for this. But I don't give a damn about RE. I liked the 4th one, but I still didn't care too much for it. Also I understand how the 4th one is very different than the previous ones before it, and I've played those too. Wasn't entertained.

Dead Space - Never got into this series either. I enjoy horror games, but to be honest.. this game doesn't seem that scary. And, when it is scary, it's only because of jump scares. It's simple to make jump scares; takes little to no talent. (I enjoy the hell out of games like Amnesia. You don't even need to see a monster and the game's atmosphere itself can be freaky.)

Sonic series - Meh.

Back in action to develop the indie game that has been long overdue... Final Fallacy. A game that keeps on giving! The development never ends as the developer thinks to be the smart cookie by coming back and beginning by saying... "Oh bother, this indie game has been long overdue..." How could one resist such?
