Gears of war.
Call of Duty.
Assassin's Creed.
Grand Theft Auto.
World of Warcraft.
Final Fantasy 7.
Diablo (any of 'em).
Doom (any of 'em).
Yeah, that's my short list. These titles are all fairly poorly programmed in my opinion or just outright boring to play. I have issues with some of my favorite games and franchises, but at least they're not headache inducing borefests as some of these other games are.
Gears of War: Story was good until halfway through the second one. Multiplayer has always been "shotgun host whore fests" that were boring and required no talent or skill... or other weapons. Gears of War 3 had me playing for a long time with the inclusion of the Retro Lancer, which was the absolute best way to stop shotgun-whoring... So, naturally, the community got the gun nerfed into pointlessness so they could return to their braindead gameplay.
Call of Duty: With the exception of Black Ops, I haven't really liked a single one of these games, or their multiplayer. It's all fairly basic with the only distinguishing characteristic being killstreaks and level ups that unlock the best guns in the game. It doesn't help matters when you are NOT FORCED to prestige and some people just stay at max level to keep access to their "uber guns" until the end of time.
Assassin's Creed: The storyline always confused the crap out of me and whenever I asked someone to explain it to me, they say "just play it man". To me, that's a bad way to design a story. If your readers or players can't explain it to someone else, it's poorly written. Doesn't help that the gameplay is fairly mediocre either.
GTA: Eh... I'm just bored by the franchise. It's essentially "go here, kill everyone, go the next location, kill everyone, rinse and repeat". There isn't even much programming for the NPCs, so I can't even enjoy killing them for more than 5 minutes. I actually spent more time harassing NPCs in Saint's Row by comparison...
WoW: When you're more grindtastic than Runescape, you know you have problems. Fetch thirty Moose Butts and bring them back here. Go kill 25 Brown Rabbits. The grind never ends and the professions are largely worthless. Hooray.
Final Fantasy 7: I'm not gonna lie, I hate this one based entirely on graphics. When Final Fantasy 6 has better graphics than 7, you've got some programming issues. Oh sure, the pre-rendered stuff looks good. Backgrounds and cutscenes. But how does everything else look? It looks like it comes from the Jaguar era of gaming? Yeah, no thanks.
Diablo: Point, click, walk, click, click, click, click. Yeah, the gameplay just bores me. It's "whack until dead" with no real strategy involved or ways to keep enemies off of you unlike other games that were better as hack and slash RPGs. I'll take Champions of Norrath over Diablo 1 and 2 any day.
Doom: Well, it's Doom. I know I shouldn't expect much out of an oldschool game. It's just... It's not that interesting as a shooter. Pick up gun, shoot until dead. I actually find the level design more interesting than the gameplay. Likewise the story. Unfortunately, we get very little story, and the only reason to care about level design is to find card keys. Let's not even get into Doom 3, either.
Anyway, that's my two cents on the subject.
