Hi everyone,

I think that everyone has some games that they absolutely love, yet when they mention them nobody's heard about them and you end up looking like a fool... no? Just me?  >_>

I have a couple of games like that, but I guess that in order to not spam the thread straight away I'll limit myself to one or two.

Ghost Master

Given that it's pretty hard to describe in a sensible fashion, I'll quote Wikipedia on this one:

''the player assumes the role of a Ghost Master, a bureaucratic spirit tasked to perform certain duties. While the bulk of a Ghost Master's duties consist of hauntings, a Ghost Master may also be "called in" to increase belief in the supernatural, avenge deaths, and conscriptrenegade ghosts. Because a Ghost Master cannot directly interfere in the world of mortals, the Ghost Master is given a team of subordinate ghosts to do so. When not haunting, the Ghost Master is responsible for the training of the ghosts under his/her command.''

Yup, it's as fun as it sounds. You get a bunch of ghosts, you train them, you scare people. It's more of a puzzle / strategy game than anything, as you find out what they fear the most and then apply it for extra effectiveness. You free more ghosts by solving puzzels such as ''the Ghost is stuck in a vaccum cleaner'' -> Link an electronics based ghost to the nearby radio -> Use ''Machine Uprising'' skill to make all the devices go crazy and release the ghost. Then just scare everyone.

Some Screenshots. If you've played the game, you should recognize it immediately.

I just loved that game.Being ''evil'' while not killing everyone while keeping a sense of humor and staying original? Yes please. I've even tried to make a fan game based on it myself, but programming the AI for the people is beyond me. Oh well, If I'll ever get rich you know what I'll do with the money  ;)

Anyway, what are some of you favorite ''non-mainstream'' games?
I use to play this game as a kid :) wasn't exactly my favourite game but it was nice to play for a while.
I was sad when I was trying to talk to my friends about amazing games and they looked at me weird when I said "Secret of Evermore" was amazing and they had no clue what it was. :(

TWEWY was a critical darling and was lauded as the best RPG on the DS when it released. I wouldn't call it obscure. May just be where you live, but on the internet it was super popular among people who liked the genre. (Personally, I disliked it, but that is neither her nor there).

I'd probably go with Hoshigami or Kartia on the PSX.

Really? I had no idea!

Here... it's more like it never came out in italian, and thus really few people know about it.

Clock tower is pretty cool, I never played it but saw a few videos of it.

The first game on the SNES was way ahead of it's time for the horror genre too.

Zombies Ate My Neighbours for SNES. The music was really good and I like how they were kinda creative with the weapons.

Recently I fell in love with Klonoa 2. It's a cute, fun platformer that's quite fun to play. None of my friends know what it is. Which is a shame, as the gameplay is fantastic.

It feels like I'm like only one in this thread who has played some seriously rare stuff outside of Asia.

Games like Ghost Master etc didn't sell amazingly well when the decision was made if it should have a sequel that got then canceled due the poor sales but that is hardly "not known."

I'm going with... The Quest for Glory series of games. While they're not exactly unknown I would be somewhat surprised if there were many people here that are familiar with those. I could mention some really obscure visual novels but I'd rather not and they're not in English so I doubt it even counts in the first place.

I also noticed the earlier W8 mention. It was alright, I liked W7 a lot more. The W8 battle mechanics got pretty annoying most of the time.

Also... Dark Legions. You... Shall... Feel... PAIN!

Utopia. It's an online text based game that has been around since the 1990's.

Gah... I actually just remembered an old MS-DOS game, Mad Dog II. I'm sure *that* one is actually quite obscure. Looking at the wiki page for it, I can't believe they decided to subject people to abuse by re-releasing it.

I loved that series as a kid! I remember stumbling across QFG1 in the bargain bin many years ago and deciding to check it out, and next thing I knew I was after all of them in the series (it was only up to 3 at that point in time). I think that game and Pool of Radiance (the original gold box one) are the games that got me started on RPG's, as I found them both in the bargain bin on the same summer, and next thing I knew, there went my summer vacation.

Sad to see nobody mention Alundra. It ranked high in Electronic Gaming Monthly back when that was a thing, winning Game of the Month once, but I never saw anything about it again. I still play it to this day.

It's pretty much the spiritual successor to Landstalker: The Treasure of King Nole. Both games I love, but Alundra edges out Landstalker slightly.

Lately I've been playing the Goldbox D&D games, too.

Hmmmmmm. Can't think of anything else at the moment, but then it's past midnight.

Alundra was well known and was a great game indeed. That's why probably people didnt mention it.

Despite it was feeling like a Zelda rip off back in the days, I really enjoyed that one.

I was going to mention Etrian Odyssey, but while I only known one person in person that actually played it, it's been picking up quite well since it's been on the 3DS.

I'll go with Zelda: Four Swords Adventures... okay, lots of you had heard about it, but how many of you even thought about it let alone play it? It's the Zelda game with the lowest sales and even if it is good compared to some third party games, I think it deserves a spot on this list.

Defenders Quest:  Valley of The Forgotten

Great top down tower defense with actual characters you can hire, name, and level up.  Highly addictive, and underplayed to the extreme.

Has a Steam version with Workshop support.  If you see it on sale, I suggest purchasing it if you enjoy tower defense, and RPGs... Yeah you like RPGs.

so hopefully tomorrow i get to go home from the hospital i've been here for 5 days already and it's driving me mad. I miss my family like crazy but at least I get to use my own toiletries and my own clothes. My mom is coming to visit soon i can't wait to see her cause i miss her the most. :kaojoy:
Couple hours of work. Might use in my game as a secret find or something. Not sure. Fancy though no? :D
Holy stink, where have I been? Well, I started my temporary job this week. So less time to spend on game design... :(
Cartoonier cloud cover that better fits the art style, as well as (slightly) improved blending/fading... fading clouds when there are larger patterns is still somewhat abrupt for some reason.
