Gates of Trinity
I made this game for the 5th Driftwood Game Jam, and finally decided to post it here as well! The game jam challenged people to make a 5-30 minute game using only RTP resources and plugins, provided the plugins required no additional resources to function.
I had a lot of fun making this game, and it is my first published game. I hope others will enjoy playing it as much as I enjoyed making it!

SYNOPSIS
In Gates of Trinity, alternate play between a mother, Aria, and her daughter Izzia, set twenty years apart. Following her mother's death, Izzia discovers an old journal belonging to Aria. The story inside recalls a turning point in Aria's life, with the consequences of her actions passing down to unravel lies - and possibly even Izzia's life.

Gameplay sits at roughly 20 minutes, and is story-focused around a parallel world filled with powerful creatures preying on human life force.

Choose your preferred class to use in quick, balanced combat complete with action sequences.

Each class has a different weapon to use. Starting weapons are granted a randomized trait which can be used to influence combat style! Between four starting weapons and five randomized traits, Gates of Trinity offers different playstyles and replay value.

SETTING
The game takes place between two worlds: An Earth-like world, and its parallel world of Trinity. The two are connected via magical gates that require life force to open. On the other side of the gate, in the world of Trinity, are apex predators known as Primals. And their prey of choice happens to be the life force of humans...

@Cythera Oh, I played this around the end of Driftwood's Game Jam but forgot to give feedback. From memory, the story was really well done. It caught my attention and made me want to know what comes next at each point.

Although it was a bit wordy before the gameplay started, and it carried on being wordy at points after. I have mixed views on having a lot of dialogue to read through before starting gameplay but I was able to keep going and glad I did.

I think it's meant to be story-driven so it's better to be wordy in this case but I'd warn that the game is like that so for the people who want to just jump into gameplay right away they then can be aware of what the game will be like for them.

I also wanted to know what happened to her mother, and I like how we have that question going throughout the story and how we actually play as the mother when she was younger to sort of see.

The plot twist at the end was one I thought possibly would come, I think it was a good twist and you handled it nicely.

Mapping was good, glad you put some treasure chests and rewards for us to find. I think, for ideas on games in the future, you could expand the mapping a little bit, so the character can explore off a linear path even more and then find treasure chests or some reward for doing so. It made sense not to do that here because of the limited time and Game Jam but I think I could see that working well in a future game for you.

I wish we could explore the last dungeon (the hideout place) more, but understand for the limited time and Game Jam why we didn't.

Overall I remember being positive about this, so I can remember the positives but I can't remember the negatives. There probably are some useful constructive criticism that could help but I can't remember what I didn't like at the moment. It has been a while, but I realise that this could still be of help.

Good luck with future games! : )

Hey @atoms glad you had a positive experience with my game :)
It is 110% story based! I put it together in under a week for a jam I was merely planning on lurking until I decided I might as well join the fun.
Most of the design choices were made with the time limit in mind, hence the block off of some areas that I would normally make so the player can explore.
Thanks for playing my little game jam game!

It was definitely a positive experience. I liked the story decisions and how they played out. It was also nice to be able to choose a class at the beginning. The game jam did look really fun too, glad to hear that you felt inspired to create something. : )

Good luck with your future games! : )

Don’t forget to catch Advent Day #3 compiled right here! Hmm. Let’s make today’s question…what is your favorite dish served at your holiday dinner?
All of the male sprites in New Dawn for the are built off of the third sprite I ever made on top of the first sprite base I made nearly a year ago, and now I'm making the female sprite base, and just by virtue of the amount of elapsed time and the number of sprites I've made since then, I think I'm going to have to revise all of my male sprites at some point.
I am going to be known on this forum for three things: RMXP, no combat, and bakeries.

In other news, I've just discovered that I misread the Jam deadline. It's the 21st, not the 24th! I guess I'd better hurry it up XD
