Call me Cross, I'm a would be game developer/director from Australia.

...Unfortunately the job market down here in my neck of the bush is kinda non-existent, so I'm hoping to use RPGMaker as a stepping stone to actually getting something going down here.

To that end I'm going into this community as a complete newbie with big ideas...

Starting with something I've been cooking up for nearly 15 years now...

Now the thing is... I don't know what Maker can do. I don't know if my ambition break the engine or not...

How flexible is Maker's Engine?

...Cause I've seen a lot of RPGMaker games on Steam boasting 10 hour stories... and I'm gunning for 100 split between main quest and side stories.

Can Maker handle that? Or are you all looking at this post like I'm a madman?

EDIT:

Just felt it prudent to let everyone know what games got me into the idea of making my own RPG.

Like many I have had an interest in Final Fantasy and it indeed proved the initial spark of inspiration... but it is by no means my favourite series, and while I do enjoy the Tales series it too doesn't hold the honour of being my favourite. My actual favourites are Lufia 2: Rise of the Sinistrals and Star Ocean: the Second Story and their respective series.

Welcome to the forums!

RPG Makers can do anything. Well, in a 2d RPG realm, at least. Building a 100-hour game is completely possible.

Talking about lengthier RPG:s, the question is, how much time and money you're willing to invest in your project? Do you plan on creating assets yourself, hire someone to do them for you or use RTP/ resource materials?

Creating a 10- hour commercial game solo takes about 6 months (using RTP and resource stuff) if you work very, very fast and 6-8 hours a day. So, building a 100- hour ambitious game would take 5-10 years at least.

Example:

My current project will be a 30- hour game, and it'll take about 3-4 years to complete it (all in all), depending on the amount of endgame polish. I'm not creating everything from the scratch because otherwise it would take 10 years minimum. I'm working with hired musicians and use edited resource graphics mainly.

A bit of this and a bit of that.

I mainly intend it as a proof of concept for what I hope to create as a 3D game. Though plans may change (at which point I would be going full custom assets).

I intend to at least try and create many assets myself, I'll need to to make several characters to fit their appearances (one is a fox anthro, another has 4 arms, another spends half the game slouched over with his bangs covering his eyes, etc).

Not to mention one character is supposed to have a completely different magic circle to the others when casting (which is a hint to a plot twist later in the game)...

Don't forget, aspiring writers: Personality isn't what your characters do, it is WHY they do it.
Hello! I would like to know if there are any pluggings or any way to customize how battles look?
I was thinking that when you start the battle for it to appear the eyes of your characters and opponents sorta like Ace Attorney.
Sadly I don't know how that would be possible so I would be needing help! If you can help me in any way I would really apreciate it!
