Hey there,
I wasn't entirely sure where to post this since I have already written a review on your game on the Steam page. Since this is a more public place, for those who may stumble across this, allow me to explain:


The developer had asked me to review his game on one of my streams a few months back and kindly gave me a steam key. Unfortunately there was a bug which resulted in me ending the play session of this game early. I told the dev that I would play the game on Stream again some time in the future after he gets a few more patches in...that "time in the future" was last night.


Finally I can give some thoughts on this game since it's full release on Steam.
Overall, I still find the game rather clunky, but if there is one thing that can be said for certain is the dedication you have towards improving this game and it was something I and my viewers want to give credit towards is that you have really taken feedback of your game well. I've noticed the number of improvements made since my first time playing the game.
There are some nice details like foot steps in the water and grass blowing in the wind, there was clearly care given to the design of the world. However, the combat and systems still seem overly complicated and unbalanced. I believe that the unbalance comes mostly from a lack of knowledge of the player, which could be offset if systems, states, and mechanics were introduced slowly over a span of time, rather than dumping all of them on the player at once, making it tough to keep track of.

Once again, I think one of the greatest achievements here is not necessarily the game, but your ability to take feedback and improve. That's a rare quality (take it from me as someone who has reviewed a lot of games from different developers) and if anything; that's your greatest strength as a developer. I hope you'll use that strength to craft a great game, but I also think lingering on projects is only detrimental to yourself, so if anything I hope you'll do your best to finish this game's content add any necessary polish, and move on to take all the lessons learned during this game to make an even better game next. It's easier to start with a solid foundation than to reconstruct the existing foundation.

Polishing the base experience is the reason I've not jumped into building out ACT II, also I plan on replacing parts of the combat system to try & nail down a better way to handle how the "player & enemies interact in real time" while giving players a "turn based optional setting" for game balance in addition to making skills feel make impactful.

I plan on doing 6 Acts total, but might only do 3 in ACE & do a soft reboot in Rpg Maker Unite given it'll likely be able to do real time+3d combat a lot better then what is attempted here, I do still believe the Ace Engine has hidden potential I can drag out of it, & acts as a decent blueprint baseline to build the next 2 acts off of saving dev time.

IMPORTANT NOTICE, FUND-RAISING.
I've decided to move onto a new Project.
This game will become free to play once
it hits $500 on steam, current only 88$
has been made, alongside that change
my base source code to the data/maps
will be added so you can all modify the
game as you see fit for personal usage.
This requires owning RPG MAKER ACE.

I might later release ACT 2, which shall
still be paid DLC content, & will be used
as a way to donate to my other projects.

Head to the Steam Page & check the game/discussion board news, I've returned to continue Act 2, I'm planning on using AI/OpenArt & ChatGPT to help code/write/art.

They new tools sound perfect for streamlining game development & will let me remaster most of ACT 1's graphics/code & whatnot while giving new ideas for quests/story plots for ACT 2, check the (Fiverr Link on the Steam Page) to donate & help fund the project.

I don't wanna sound mean here but I can't trust a product that used AI at some point. It sounds like undoing all the hard work you've done so far to me. Just my 5 cents.

You won't have to worse about that, you can just pickup the base game it has no such assets in it, I'll plead the 5th on the DLC considering the way steam hasn't addressed this issue publicly.

Thx for your concerns, I've posted on stream forums/topics about this AI issue.
from what I understood of AI ART, was that it is concerned fair use in US LAW.
Steam has to consider laws from other places too so it's a toss up on legality.

This topic is what my thoughts about it being Fair Use & Steam Agreement.

This is where I'm raised my concerns originally about it & whatnot.

At the moment I'm currently upset over their decision or lack of/me not being informed as a dev which is required in the Steam Agreement.

I'd suggest judging base on it's merits vs any morality/legality regarding this new tech that has no ruling against it's use as of the current date under US LAW, I personally found it to be under Fair Use so I have no issue using it until ruled otherwise by a court or Steam directly tells me to pull my game/dlc down, since I've informed them on the matter as a proper dev should do.

It's fine to see you've tried to get answers from Steam on the AI art issue, but I was mainly concerned about the coding part. Being a scripter myself, that erased my smile from my face in no time. :S

I've only made art so far using AI, generating code/text would've been something I'd look into over the next year for my DLC ACTII but pretty much all the scripts I have got the creature comforts I'd ever need in the game, I'd be hard pressed to even think of anything remotely useful script wise that has not already been provided by the community, the only thing I could even think would be remotely useful is if I could overhaul the actual rpggame editor to place larger images in cells/battleport & bypass limitations of other hardcoded nonsense, for example... the Resolution of the Game being 640p, which I over came after finding this, which allowed me to add in 50% larger battlers...
