There are 15 classes in my game.
So say 15. I know it's common practise in marketing to say 'over 1000!', but generally only when you're dealing with much larger numbers.

I'd personally say that 15 sounds more attractive to me than 'over 10'. You don't have to try to pull the wool over a potential player's eyes - be honest! We're indies.

I could write a whole essay about getting noticed. Being noticed is my life in a specific mmo fighting game that I play. (See sig below, and I still hold this title for years. I know every single mechancial detail about this Zero character, and I hold a 81% win ratio of over 6200 matches over several years all on a competitive level and match rulesets)

But two very important pieces of advice:

1) Be super loud and sell/advertise yourself out a lot. Many people will find it annoying, but that's a form of stickyness. Some people even either get over it or develop an appreciation over time instead of being annoyed. So you just have to be super strong willed, egotistical and persistent. (There is nothing wrong with big egos, it's human nature)

2) If you're trying to get known in a competitive scene, you have to be extremely demanding of challenges, and win them. Say you're good at something, then someone tries to say you suck, and then be like "Fight me then". However you obviously must win, as losing will obviously be a big hurtful impact.

I can see that in some situations this sort of advice is exactly what's needed, but I'm not sure that it applies to this site.  I think that being helpful and courteous, taking merited criticism gracefully, and dealing with unmerited criticism maturely, will go further than being super loud and annoying.  Certainly put yourself out there, but that is not the same thing.

I'm with @ksjp17 on this one. That would have a negative effect, if anything, on this particular forum. We're all pretty well-mannered. That is, unless someone goes full controversy on us :p

Regarding avatar changes from page 1: Feel free to change your avatar, but it is recommended to keep the subject material the same.

E.G: Hand-drawn phoenix -> painted phoenix -> digital art phoenix

I am very visual, and I often remember avatars much more than names. However, I don't mind if the style of the avatar changes slightly.

E.G: feel free to have differently-styled blue/white/yellow penguins in yours!

Name changes are a nightmare though: I will not know who you are.

I am a prinny! I don't think most penguins have stitching...

Regarding the name change, DITR stood for Diamond in the rough. It was the name of an OC I came up with but never got around to actually drawing.

I changed my username to BlackLiquidSorrow after reading Problem Sleuth. If it sounds like the name of a metal band, i'll probably

use it.

I also have my own brand of Gushers!

Your Like Score (surprisingly) will show how you're doing and the impact you have on these forums.  It's like a reputation system.  I can generally tell when someone brings something to the table, and when others just like to talk but offer no substance.  Got more likes than your post count?  Congratulations, you're doing something right.
I wouldn't necessarily say that's true. I've got a higher like than post count and that's solely because I post pretty things in the screenshot thread, not because I've said anything of substance or importance.

I have two projects I am currently working on, and would post them here if not for some of the rules, like a specific word count (I hate having to pad words) and having a description of the world. I have a plot description and pretty much the whole post typed out, but I don't want to give everything about the world away immediately. I'm sorry if this seems off topic.

On topic though, I would have to agree with what everyone is saying. You'll only get noticed once you start to advertise your project more and tell others about it.

You shouldn't feel intimidated by the rules. They're actually not that strict in regard to the word count and all. I almost never put detailed info about the world. Even just having a couple of paragraphs of the plot synopsis and a small list of gameplay features will already cover the text aspect of the thread. Add in the screenshots and you're pretty much done. :)

There's already been some great responses, but I'd just like to throw in my two cents.

Go throw yourself out there and join projects, comment on other games! The goodwill you send out there will come back to you in kind. People rarely forget an act of kindness.

As for people not noticing your game, I'd recommend a mantra; "If you make it, they will come." I've created a few games and I've asked myself, "This is such a weird game. Who's going to play this when I'm finished?". A lot of people actually, because I make the best games that I can. A game that comes recommended from other people will convince me to play it, while creator advertising usually won't. While I know all about Call of Duty, I instead bought Street Fighter III because I've heard such good things about it.

tl;dr-Get involved with other people's games and make the best games you can.

so hopefully tomorrow i get to go home from the hospital i've been here for 5 days already and it's driving me mad. I miss my family like crazy but at least I get to use my own toiletries and my own clothes. My mom is coming to visit soon i can't wait to see her cause i miss her the most. :kaojoy:
Couple hours of work. Might use in my game as a secret find or something. Not sure. Fancy though no? :D
Holy stink, where have I been? Well, I started my temporary job this week. So less time to spend on game design... :(
Cartoonier cloud cover that better fits the art style, as well as (slightly) improved blending/fading... fading clouds when there are larger patterns is still somewhat abrupt for some reason.
Do you Find Tilesetting or Looking for Tilesets/Plugins more fun? Personally I like making my tileset for my Game (Cretaceous Park TM) xD
