I have heard that (at least in the states) medicinal marijuana can help take edge off.

You can also try doing another hobby, or trying to work right when you get up.

I have a couple ways I can break myself out of it:

1. Force myself to write something. Anything. I find that thinking about how to write a summary of a show I'm watching or a scene out the window encourages me to write something I actually enjoy doing, and gets me back into the swing of things.

2. Do some repetitive task and let my brain wander. I have a ton of simple jigsaw puzzles that I have all the pieces memorized for. I can put a 500 piece puzzle together in under 20 minutes, then I tear it apart and do it again. Since it's such a mindless task, my brain is free to wander while my hands are kept busy, and I usually am able to work past where I got stuck.

3. Take a break from it and come back later. It's always nice to forget about it for a while and do something to refresh your brain.

4. Read. I'm always inspired by another writer's work :)

Drugs, while a...tempting offer at first seem kind of temporary...
But if you are going to use them for inspiration, I recommend going ALL the way.

I recommend using the most addictive, destructive and terrible of them all.
The one that will obliterate your social life forever and ever.

THE ONE THAT WILL HAVE YOU SPENDING HOURS IN A SINGLE SPOT IN SILENT CONTEMPLATION AND BECAUSE OF THAT YOU SHALL MOVE. NEVERMORE!

LANNAVEVO! I RECOMMEND TV TROPES!

Going back to serious mode. Tv tropes. It's nice. And it DOES help out A LOT. If you aren't careful it will devour you, but I trust you can deal with it...

Also...Kyrie...

She (says in her profile) that she's 14...I don't think Cannabis (medical or not) is exactly a possibility

Sing along to music while i write. Half my brain is running the music and sometimes i dont even realize the other half is running the story. Kinda awesome.

Do something that you don't want to do(study, clean, etc). Your fantasy will go wild and you will feel more motivated than ever before. Believe me... It works...

Well. If you wish to be completely pragmatic about it....

Writer's block, I would assume, comes from a disruption in one's imagination. Imagination, by the way, comes from one's experiences, and involvement in life, and activities around oneself; along with dreams ("residue of the day"), it's how our minds process, to an extent possible.

Therefore, pragmatically, one could say, if you suffer from writer's block, then just set your work down and do something else, hopefully something as mentally-involved as possible. It doesn't even necessarily have to be the same something you are writing about; but you should be wholly captivated by the activity. And then, later, come back to your work with a fresh mind. (Either that, or sleep away your exhaustion...)

Mostly I use any music that fit the mood to the story I am writing. Not just a regular music but Video game music for some reasons. Really help me writing a story. Maybe because the music cause me to see the story in the character view.

And also I sometime act like the character in the story, in my own room to help out in getting ideas.

Sit on a toilet. Ideas are made there, great ideas.
It's the shower for me.But like everyone said, give your mind a break. Try doing something different that works out the other side of your brain. Immerse yourself in something else and allow your creativity to recharge for a bit or be flexed in a different way. That's always worked for me.

It's been a really long time now since I last had artist/writers/whatever block now that I think about it.

I always discover my ideas when I'm just laying in bed... :guffaw:

Readings books and playing other games tend to help with giving inspiration though

I guess having a long vacation will take out your mind on the pressure. You'll be amazed how a 2 week vacation will do wonders for you.

Taking a break and returning to the project later usually helps. Also try looking at other sources and retrieve inspiration from them.

Well, I've written a book before though I never finished it because I lost the motivation to continue forward and the book is just sitting on my hard drive. For me I get over writers block by watching an anime that is related to what your writing. Example: Sword-fighting watch something with sword-fighting involved, and such.

so hopefully tomorrow i get to go home from the hospital i've been here for 5 days already and it's driving me mad. I miss my family like crazy but at least I get to use my own toiletries and my own clothes. My mom is coming to visit soon i can't wait to see her cause i miss her the most. :kaojoy:
Couple hours of work. Might use in my game as a secret find or something. Not sure. Fancy though no? :D
Holy stink, where have I been? Well, I started my temporary job this week. So less time to spend on game design... :(
Cartoonier cloud cover that better fits the art style, as well as (slightly) improved blending/fading... fading clouds when there are larger patterns is still somewhat abrupt for some reason.
Do you Find Tilesetting or Looking for Tilesets/Plugins more fun? Personally I like making my tileset for my Game (Cretaceous Park TM) xD
