Can you attach your Licenses.json file? I can take a look at it

I'm attaching a different one I made, without any weapon or armor nodes

Are you saving it as Licenses.txt or Licenses.json?

The format looks correct, so that's good.
Next thing would be to check if you've set <BoardName:Map175> in the note tag of all of the classes, as it's currently the only boardName available?

I wasn't aware to put it in each class, so I just did that.

Same error though; still doesn't work

Hmm, anything in the dev console on game launch before the error occurs? The error is finding a null when it goes to grab the board info, but maybe there's an earlier non-fatal error that explains why it's not there

Nope. When I open the console it just shows the same error strings.

I thought maybe another plugin but nothing shows, so idk

Does the error fire only when you open the menu, or right at launch?
The only explanation I can think is it's not opening the Licenses.json file. Can you send a screen shot of the data directory?

You can also double check you have the newest version at:

It's possible I didn't update it at itch and am mixing up instructions

What does:
$gameActors._data[1].currentClass().meta

return in the console?

When I expand the rest of the collapsed areas, it's a LOT

Looks like you named the note tag <LicenseBoardName:Map175>

Change it to <BoardName:Map175>

that worked! But I think your tutorial vid has it as <LicenseBoardName: name>

But now it doesn't show any licenses or anything, so I think maybe I'm still missing something?

You just need to add <StartingLicensePosition:x,y> to the class as well to start somewhere on the grid

I have another question...
I have my map notetags set up for costs like so;

<hp: 25>
<mp: 20>
<atk: 5>
<def: 5>
<mat: 5>
etc.

But is it possible to have them be <atk: "value" x 5>

So if I have a node that raises
atk+1 costs 5LP,
atk+2 costs 10LP
atk+3 costs 15LP
etc.

There is! Now to remember how I did it!

*reads own code frantically*

* The values for the equations can either be relative to the value of the node (for attributes):
* EG: \<hp:v/10> would mean "HP nodes cost the value they give divided by 10 points to buy"
* Or can be static:
* EG: \<weapon:10> would mean all weapon nodes cost 10 points.

So you'd want <atk:v*5> I believe

it works! (I was trying to use 'x' instead of '*' before I asked :D)

Revisiting one of my older projects in a long time to work some more on the mechanics. I've been working on- and off-again for about a year now on recreating the Force and Mystic systems from Wild ARMs. And I think I've finally made some good breakthroughs on that!

Still, it is not perfect and I may post my thoughts at a later time to see if there are any other suggestions or alternatives I've missed.
actor name string, why you gotta be case sensitive like that?

My entire world, full of monsters and treasures, will likely be done by the end of the year. After that it's all NPCs and side quests... then done. I'm never making an open world game again xD
The more I read Calvin and Hobbes as an adult, the more I deeply respect Bill Watterson. Plenty of stuff flew over my head, but now that I'm old enough to appreciate the viewpoints he shared with the fun and imagination? I am grateful that C&H was basically my early childhood.
