Been out of the scene for a while - so I wanted to ask you guys - what RM Engine do you use, and why?

I know some use RMXP for as long as they can remember, and with MV out now - I want to get your opinion on what everyone feels more comfortable with.

I've been using XP in the beginning and switched over to VXAce, which I used for the longest time. I had a break from RPGM for like 2 years and decided to get back into it a few weeks ago. I bought MV and I've gotta say it's the pinnacle of the engine right now. The inherent features and vast variety of plugins is amazing.

Hey Brett! Good to see you back.

I started with Ace, that had several problems but a lot of workarounds too. When MV came out it was laggy, buggy and unstable but now that a lot of issues have been fixed I can clearly confirm that it makes Ace feel completely obsolete.
I'm using MV and am satisfied with it, the engine is good enough for my needs.

RPG Maker 2003 for the mapping and overworld eventing. RPG Maker MV for anything combat related.

I'd say VXACE or MV

Started out with VX, moved to ACE.
But now that I got MV, I don't think I'll ever go back.
The increased screen resolution is great, and the plugin support is amazing.

ideally, one that exported and imported projects in some kind of compression file for use with teams. that's my RM fantasy :p

I use ace, because it was the newest years back, and I had a small grasp of ruby to an extent that I could make objects.

'General Discussion' is for talking about aspects of making games, not the software used in making them.

I've only used MV so I don't really have much basis for comparison. But from what I've heard from the community, short of the way XP, I think it was, did mapping, MV seems to be where it's at. I'm personally more than happy with it.

I've only used MV (I have VX Ace as well, but only for licences and stuff). But I would not want so
switch to any other RM Engine, because I prefer JavaScript and how easy it is in MV to
customize pretty much everything.

I like Mv and Vx Ace. But I would really like Rpg Maker to be for the 3ds or something and share with people!

I would imagine that the licensing to be able to dev on a platform would require individual licensing. I think most engines that do that sort of thing get good deals on contracts with the platform devs in question. I know for a Playstation Dev license, you need a business license and fully operational website, or a couple thousand bucks.

Just beat the last of us 2 last night and starting jedi: fallen order right now, both use unreal engine & when I say i knew 80% of jedi's buttons right away because they were the same buttons as TLOU2 its ridiculous, even the same narrow hallway crawl and barely-made-it jump they do. Unreal Engine is just big budget RPG Maker the way they make games nearly identical at its core lol.
