    Time Fantasy

These are conversions of the VX Ace Generator face pieces to the Time Fantasy style.

    Some notes:
    • The VX Ace RTP provides 4 different skin tones for faces. However, the Time Fantasy style only provides 2: white and black. So for the other 2 skin tones, I chose orc green (from the Time Fantasy Monsters pack) and pale/vampire from the free vampire sprites on the Time Fantasy blog. You can use the pale color for vampires, zombies, or really sickly NPCs.
    • The VX Ace RTP provides a green hair color; however, I only saw 1 Time Fantasy sprite with green hair. But Time Fantasy sprites have 2 different shades of red hair - a bright red (similar to Ace) and orange. So instead of green hair, I provided orange hair. This means when you pick green from the hair color dropdown in the Ace generator window, you'll get orange. Of course, you can always recolor the hair pieces or sprites on your own.

Here are some samples of the kinds of faces you can create with these converted graphics, along with a Time Fantasy sprite that the face could go with.

I recommend backing up the Generator subdirectory in your VX Ace install directory before overwriting those files with the versions here. Then right-click on each image, select save as, navigate to your VX Ace install directory, and overwrite the version that is there. Or, if you want, you can save the images off in a separate directory first, and then copy them into the Generator sub-directory.

Of course, if you feel up to it, you can always skip the Ace generator and do the layering of these images yourself in a program like Photoshop or GIMP. There is some advantage in that, since the Ace generator seems to clip 10 pixels off each edge of the faces.

I put the file name before each image so you know what you're looking at.

The Ace generator provides shadow decorations for each of the ear files. Those shadow decoration files end in a s (e.g., Eyebrows01.png and Eyebrows01s.png, where the latter is the shadow file). The shadows don't work with the Time Fantasy versions of these files. So I recommend saving each of these files twice, once for the ears and once for its corresponding shadow file. That will cause the Ace generator to draw the ears twice, but that's ok - there won't be an annoying shadow messing with your pretty Time Fantasy faces.

The sample faces that Des and StrawberrySmiles posted in the Time Fantasy forum did not have whites in the eyes. The eyes I provided above do have white (its an off-white shade used by some Time Fantasy sprites), since that's how the original Ace generator pieces are. I showed both sets of eyes to Des (with and without whites), and he agreed that both fit the Time Fantasy style. I think the whites look fine, but if you would prefer a version of the eyes without whites, here you go.

One thing I don't like about the Ace generator is that it doesn't provide skin tone variants for eyes (unlike every other facial part). To me, it looks weird to see eyes designed for white skin overlaid on top of darker skin. It looks especially weird with the green skin tone. So here's a recolored version of the eyes that you can use when you're building orcs.

The Ace generator Nose10 is the same as Nose09, but has a blush effect. I couldn't get that to work with the Time Fantasy style. So I created a different nose. This one is a large round nose, suitable for a dwarf or a large humanoid.

RearHair08 is the only hair piece I haven't converted, and I'm not planning to do that anytime soon (since no Time Fantasy sprites currently have that hairstyle).

You'll notice there are a lot of generator files missing. I'm still working on these conversions. I'll update this thread as I finish converting generator pieces to the Time Fantasy style.

Have fun with it! And feel free to post your creations - I'd love to see what you can make with these graphics!

This is some incredible stuff! I'm currently using MV with time fantasy, but now I want to make a new project in VX Ace!

You can resize the Ace generated faces so they work in MV. Divide the dimensions by 2, which gets you to the Time Fantasy base size, the multiply by 3 to get to MV size.

Wow man. This is IMPRESSIVE! Great job man!

Did you ever find a way to automate the conversion process a little more? Or it is being done pixel by pixel?

Thanks! No, I'm still doing the conversion by hand. It comes out best that way.

I haven't been able to work on it for the past couple of weeks, due to an increased workload and deadline at my real job, and also a sudden death in the family. But I should be able to get back into it next week.

    A big update today!

First, I've provided 2 different recolored versions of the male eyes for both the dark and pale skin tones. One recolored version has whites, and the other recolored version does not. These will look a lot better when you're building dark-skinned or pale-skinned faces. See original post above for these.

    Second, I've converted RearHair04! Here's a sample:

I took a break from hair today to work on some more clothing, which needed some more variety. So I converted Neck16 (the hooded cloak) to the Time Fantasy style. Here's a sample, next to a Time Fantasy sprite (from the Dwarves and Elves pack) it could go with:

And here are the converted generator parts:

    Neck16
    [IMG]

    Neck16a
    [IMG]

I chose the colors for these to match the following sprites:
    • elf1, bottom row, 4th sprite (from the Time Fantasy Dwarves and Elves pack)
    • dwarf2, bottom row, 1st sprite (from the Time Fantasy Dwarves and Elves pack)
    • elf1, bottom row, 3rd sprite (from the Time Fantasy Dwarves and Elves pack)
    • chara5, bottom row, 3rd sprite
    • chara2, top row, 4th sprite (if his cloak had a hood)
    • wizard, top row, 2nd sprite (from the Time Fantasy Monsters pack)
    • elf1, colored variant of bottom row, 3rd sprite (from the Time Fantasy Dwarves and Elves pack)
    • npc5, top row, 4th sprite (from the Time Fantasy Monsters pack)
I noticed that most of the cloaked sprites in the Time Fantasy base pack had a colored trim around the hood opening, so here are some variants of Neck16 to match those sprites:

Neck16 - alternate (with colored trim, to match certain Time Fantasy sprites)

Next16a - alternate (with colored trim, to match certain Time Fantasy sprites)

I chose the colors for these to match the following sprites:
    • chara2, top row, 2nd sprite
    • chara4, bottom row, 1st sprite
    • chara5, bottom row, 3rd sprite
    • chara7, top row, 3rd sprite (from the Time Fantasy Monsters pack)
    • wizard, top row, 3rd sprite (from the Time Fantasy Monsters pack)
    • wizard, top row, 2nd sprite (from the Time Fantasy Monsters pack)
    • wizard, top row, 4th sprite (from the Time Fantasy Monsters pack)
    • wizard, top row, 1st sprite (from the Time Fantasy Monsters pack)
    Enjoy!

Today's update is a custom clothing piece, which I made myself to try to match what some of the Time Fantasy sprites are wearing. I think it turned out pretty well, myself!

You can use these to replace of any of the Neck## and Neck##a images in the generator directory that you're not going to use. Neck05 is a good choice, since I don't see any of the Time Fantasy sprites wearing business suits.

    Here's a sample:

    And here are the goodies:

Hoodless cloaks, back (use in place of Neck##)

I chose the colors for these to match the following sprites:
    • chara2, top row, 4th sprite (which you see in my sample)
    • chara2, bottom row, 1st sprite (and also chara4, top row, 4th sprite)
    • chara2, bottom row, 4th sprite
    • chara1, bottom row, 1st sprite
    • military3, bottom row, 2nd sprite
    • chara7, top row, 2nd sprite (from the Time Fantasy Monsters pack)
    • dwarf1, bottom row, 3rd sprite (from the Time Fantasy Dwarves and Elves pack)
    • vampire (part of the free sprite graphics on the Time Fantasy blog)
    Have fun!

    Thanks, guys!

Today, I've got a modified version of Neck11 . The Ace generator version has a metal protector on one shoulder only. I didn't see any TF sprites dressed like this, so I tweaked it to add a protector on both shoulders.

Here's a sample of the end result, and a Time Fantasy sprite that it could go with:

More clothes today! I converted Neck01 to the Time Fantasy style. This is a jacket and shirt combo.

Here's a sample, and the Time Fantasy sprite it would go with (this also gives me a chance to finally show a sample of a face with the darker skin tone):

@Kauzz Yes, I have a .psd that I'm using to test with as I'm doing my conversions, and to assemble quick samples. You have to manually recolor some layers, though, like hair, eyes, and clothes. I may upload it after I get all of the male generator parts converted. I'll need to clean it up a bit first.

This will be my last update for a couple of weeks. I'm not going to be available to work on any more conversions until June.

Today's update is another custom clothing piece, which I made myself to try to match what some of the Time Fantasy NPC farmer and worker sprites are wearing. I used the collar from Neck01 and the shoulders from Neck02, and tweaked the colored part to look more like coverall straps instead of a vest.

You can use these to replace of any of the Neck## and Neck##a images in the generator directory that you're not going to use. Neck05 is a good choice, since I don't see any of the Time Fantasy sprites wearing business suits.

Shirt with coveralls, back (use in place of Neck##)

Shirt with coveralls, front (use in place of Neck##a)

I chose the colors for these to match the following Time Fantasy sprites:
    • npc1, top row, 2nd sprite
    • npc1, top row, 4th sprite
    • npc1, bottom row, 2nd sprite
    • npc1, bottom row, 4th sprite
    • npc3, top row, 2nd sprite
    • npc3, bottom row, 4th sprite
The last 2 don't go with any existing Time Fantasy sprite. I just provided a couple of extra color variations for those who might want them and don't mind recoloring a sprite to match.

    Enjoy!
